I live on a golf course and I suppose they do something to control voles, but I am having trouble I suppose because I do have lots of perennials, azaleas, bushes, and some nice grass. Please help.

    My experience: I found a mole hole right beside my screened in porch. I ran inside and looked up this video and mixed a gallon. I found about 5 holes right in a line along the porch. I poured the mixture over each hole and I poured about half in the largest hole. The next day my son in law said: there’s a mole hole by the porch and the mole just looked out at me. (That was the hole I poured half of the gallon in.). Lol!

    I would absolutely love to go to Ireland! I’m Irish on my mom’s side. Her maiden name was Goodnight. Never hear that last name in the U.S., least I haven’t yet! Myself I love the Irish accent and the land over there from what I’ve seen on shows is gorgeous! Heard about their hospitality, would love to find out what that’s like myself someday too? My dad was French, but I’ve always been more attracted to the Irish people and their country! Be a dream to go there!

    Castor oil costs $7US for 3 fluid ounces here. Can I use castor oil made by boiling the seeds of the castor oil plant? Would growing the beautiful plant in the garden help? I discovered a molehill and a large hole beside it last week outside my balcony but in the garden, not in the grass, Also our allotments are ruined by voles, not moles. I want to get rid of both moles and voles,

    • @Jigjog7
      @Jigjog7 5 лет назад +1

      1 - 2 Oz Castor Oil (DO NOT USE UNSCENTED CASTOR OIL!)
      We buy our Castor Oil from www.shayandcompany.com/castor-oil-1-gallon.html
      1 - 2 Oz Dish Detergent
      vole-damage.jpg
      Add the mixture to the jar of the hose end sprayer. Then fill the jar with water. Attach to your hose and thoroughly water every location that you want to deter the pests from. If your hose-end sprayer has a dial, set it to the highest setting.

    While I agree with the premise, my preferred mix is Caster Oil and basic VO5 Shampoo (which is only about $1 a bottle at Walmart). 2:1 Caster/Shampoo. Shampoo makes a better surfactant than dish soap and with fewer salts. Soak the garden with plain water first, then broadcast spray the garden with a hose end sprayer set to 4:1. Yes - Right on the plants and soil. (I add a little "Natures Magic" into the mix as a foliar fertilizer. ) Done. Re-apply every few months. No chemicals required.

    I'm highly interested in any method using common ingredients and tools that's effective. It sounds like you've had success with your method and I want to learn more about it.
    But with all due respect, this video needs some work. Sorry, but it's a real snoozer that leaves a lot of questions. Write an outline of what you will talk about and don't drift from it. Leave out your travels, your illness, the camera man's name, the woodpecker and any other distractions that don't have anything to do with what you're talking about. I like your dogs, but I was half expecting them to start licking themselves or lifting their legs in the video.
    You're talking about an "organic" recipe for controlling voles. 50% of the mixture is dish soap. What's "organic" about dish soap? You point out that the end-of-hose sprayer has a dial. What is the particular name of that sprayer, and what do you set the dial at? The purpose of these types of sprayers is to dilute whatever's in the bottle with water, so how much water would you use if you're using a water can?
    The application you mention is to wait for the first frost, remove dead plants and treat the ground using a "broadcast" application (sprayer). What if the varmints are bothering our gardens NOW? Will your treatment work during growing season? If so, how is it applied then?
    We got that the ingredients are castor oil, dish soap, and water. What are all those other products sitting on the table? Please stop saying you're going to "segway" to another part, because you never do! Just go to the next part.

    I have a very small space that I need this for (6 x 7 feet) and don't want to buy a huge expensive jug of castor oil. Unfortunately, pretty much every bottle I see in the store says it's unscented. I bought a bottle of TopCare that didn't say it was unscented and I can barely smell anything, so this must not be the right stuff. Where can I buy some cheap stinky castor oil in this day and age? (Walmart's says it's unscented as well)

      search 1 gallon castor oil on google. I got a gallon with shipping under $30. It is worth it to me because voles ate most of the 1,000 lilies I bought and planted. They are mowing down my hostas and shrubs too.
