Liver cirrhosis is a progressive and irreversible disease. It has no medical cure or treatment. The only curative treatment option is liver transplantation.
Following points need to be emphasised for patients who are suffering from liver cirrhosis :
1) Eat healthy and nutritious, home- cooked food. Salt- free or low salt (1-2 gm per day) diet is recommended.
2) Drink clean water. Recommended daily intake should not be more than 1.5-2 liters.
3) Try to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. Some walking, doing yoga and going to office for routine work is advisable.
4) Get yourself vaccinated for hepatitis B
5) If you are suffering from Hepatitis B or C infection than continue taking antiviral medicines.
6) If you are suffering from some chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid or asthma than continue taking those medications.
7) If you are obese than try to lose some weight. Obesity worsens cirrhosis and is a risk factor for bad post-transplant results.
