Training for The Biggest Challenge of My Life: a Full IRONMAN - Ep. 2

  • In the first episode Arno en I had a good look in the mirror and realized we had a very very long way to go if we wanted to finish a full ironman in less than 6 months. Unhealthy and totally out of shape: 3.8km swimming, 180km biking and 42km running seemed impossible. Now after 4 months of consistent training things are starting to look better and better. But it didn't go as smooth as planned: Rob got injured and Arno fell into a dark hole. The most important question however: will the boys be ready in time for their first ironman in June? Enjoy! On met la patate, come on!

Rob, problem with the shoes is the shoe industry is cheating us. Do some research on barefoot shoes and you will understand. We don't need arch support nor shock absorption in our shoes. I changed some months ago to barefoot shoes and it changed everything.

@@skokartong not saying he should change now, but being informed about what is best for your feet when you are doing extreme things is always a good idea. Modern shoe technology has weakened our feet to the point they have to sell us arch support and shock absorption. We evolved over thousands of years to walk and run on our bare feet, and boy we could run... and then the shoe industry put our feet in shoes. Imagine you put your arm in a cast for a month, where are the muscles after you take the cast away? Same thing with our feet, to narrow shoes, arch support... goodby muscles and normal functioning feet... now you are dependent on their shoes and will continue to buy their brand of shoes, special insoles and orthotics... spend your money on their stuff..I am a big fun of the channel, you guys rock. Amusing entertaining and also educational...

I was a swimmer and wanted to do a marathon. I got injured and it did hurt but I run the marathon. But I never enjoyed the process. So I stopped running for the last 10 years. Then years after and two kids later I started running again. I have a completely different approach now and I focus much more on treating my body right and enjoying my surroundings. I finally enjoy running and it feels absolutely great. Personal advice for those reading this comment: try to go for an adventure, don't just try to reach the mountain.
