Hark! a thrilling voice is sounding; Christ is nigh, it seems to say, Cast away the works of darkness, O ye children of the day. Wakened by the solemn warning Let the earthbound soul arise; Christ, her Sun, all ill dispelling, Shines upon the morning skies. Lo, the Lamb, so long expected, Comes with pardon down from Heav’n; Let us haste, with tears of sorrow, One and all to be forgiven. That when next He comes in glory, And the world is wrapped in fear, With His mercy He may shield us, And with words of love draw near. Honor, glory, might, and blessing Be to God: the Father, Son And the everlasting Spirit, While eternal ages run.
THE LYRICS OF THIS VERSION 1. Hark! A thrilling voice is sounding. "Christ is nigh," it seems to say; "Cast away the works of darkness, O ye children of the day." 2. Wakened by the solemn warning, from earth’s bondage let us rise; Christ, our sun, all sloth dispelling, shines up on the morning skies. 3. Lo! the Lamb, so long expected, comes with pardon down from heaven; let us haste, with tears of sorrow, one and all to be forgiven; 4. So when next he comes with glory, and the world is wrapped in fear, may he with his mercy shield us, and with words of love draw near. 5. Honor, glory, might, and blessing to the Father and the Son. With the everlasting Spirit while unending ages run. Words: Latin, ca. 6th cent.; tr. Hymns Ancient and Modern, 1861, alt. Music: Merion, William Henry Monk (1823-1889); desc. Alan Gray (1855-1935)
Verse 5 on the video, line 2 is 'To Creator and the Son'. If this is an attempt at deFathering gender neutrality it is a failure because the Son, the Word, is also creator - 'without him nothing has been made that was made'. John 1 (as indeed is the everlasting Spirit). Great hymn and performance of it though.

Nice production, thanks for sharing.
Hark! a thrilling voice is sounding;
Christ is nigh, it seems to say,
Cast away the works of darkness,
O ye children of the day.
Wakened by the solemn warning
Let the earthbound soul arise;
Christ, her Sun, all ill dispelling,
Shines upon the morning skies.
Lo, the Lamb, so long expected,
Comes with pardon down from Heav’n;
Let us haste, with tears of sorrow,
One and all to be forgiven.
That when next He comes in glory,
And the world is wrapped in fear,
With His mercy He may shield us,
And with words of love draw near.
Honor, glory, might, and blessing
Be to God: the Father, Son
And the everlasting Spirit,
While eternal ages run.

@@ajons190 You are very correct! This is unnecessary revisionism.
I actually prefer the “updated” line (as it is in TiS):
_’cast away the_ *dreams* _of darkness,_
*waken,* _children of the day!’_
