My favorite hymn from military camp. I was the sacristan and adored this hymn. Easily the one of the most (if not THE MOST) glorious hymns ever written. The lyrics make me feel some type of way. On the edge of producing tears and comfort.
I am a Roman Catholic who attends the Traditional Latin Mass with Gregorian Chants. But I have come to appreciate these beautiful rich hymns in English composed by our non Catholic Christian brothers and sisters. when i die, i want a hymn in Gregorian chant and another like this great hymn, Holy Holy Holy.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty, Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three Persons, blessed Trinity. Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be. Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee, though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see, only thou art holy; there is none beside thee perfect in pow'r, in love, and purity. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty, All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.
This is the most beautiful rendition of this hymn i have heard to date. When i began my journey with cancer,it was one my pastor led me to.11 yrs.later,it is still with me .HOLY HOLY HOLY. 🙏🙏🙏🛐✝️☦️🙌🙌🙌
I go to a large church, where the weekly message is outstanding. I would love to one again sing these old hymns. For the love of God I would love to do that again... *sigh*
I have the same problem! Our church has a wonderful pastor who preaches GREAT sermons. Unfortunately, our music is awful! We have the “Praise team” singing ditties only THEY can sing accompanied by a guitar!!
Today is the feast of the Holy Trinity!! With Love, Praise and Adoration I Offer this wonderful hymn in thanksgiving to the Most Adorable Holy Trinity, God the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit! Amen! Hallelujah!!
Absolutely gorgeous, nothing is great to me than honor the Lord with incredible music like this. Absolutely majestic and triumphant sounding, this is what I picture heaving to sound like. Well done!
lol. But it was "modernized." The descant, brass accompaniment, organ flourishes were all added after the hymn was written. So....you embrace the "modern" too!
This 19th-century hymn is a perfect example of how things changed in the liturgical services of western Christianity: from the virtue of the past to the shame of our days. All the 4 stanzas are above any possibility of criticism: (a) they are focused on God, not on men; (b) they consistently state the faith in a TRIUNE GOD, without any concern on how it may sound offensive to non-believers or heretics (including those unitarians), because a good hymn MUST cause discomfort on them (in this matter, it's worth to be mentioned that Mormons needed to change the lyrics because the true biblical message in this hymn is a strong strike in their heretical body of beliefs); (c) they plea for no favors or material goods, they just put God above of all and us as creatures who depends on His mercy; (d) God is portrayed as the creator of all things, both known and unknown, visible and invisible, and all His works serve for His glory (e) both text and tune are sober and made for meditation of the church, not for entertainment. Honestly, who can say the same of most (not to say: all of them) of that modern-day gospel music? Think of it in a biblical way and not according to your personal tastes. So many appeals for conversions, so many useless sentimentalisms, so many pleas for riches and goods from this world... even the "best" (???) of these songs are made to entertain young people and "give them some space in our congregations" because they do not feel connected with old hymns like this one... It is not clear if western Christianity is declining because of contemporary Christian worship music (among other reasons, like liberalism) or it is a mere consequence of said decline, but one thing is certain: modern worship cannot be compared to good hymns like this one. Actually, modern Christian music is like a cancer that must be eradicated from our churches as soon as possible.
Marcelo, I like your taste in sacred music. But do you really think that Unitarians are heretic? Seriously? Think about it. They are not heretics to what they believe. They are only heretics to what you believe. You sound a bit like the Puritans in New England who hanged Quakers as heretics to God. Let’s not be those people. It’s not respectful or loving.
@@Jack-eo5fn By that statement, heresy is purely subjective, but that is a lie of the enemy. Heresy only exists because some opinionated men want to make their false narrative the new canon. Like with any sin, you can think you are right all you want, but you're dead wrong. At least concoct a better reason.
@@TheKing-qz9wd, LOL. Actually yes, heresy is by definition subjective. Always has been. A heretic to Islam is not a heretic to Christians. Heresy is in the eye of the beholder. Similarly, a Christian heretic in the 13th century is not a Christian heretic in the 21st. As well, Quakers we’re hanged by Massachusetts Puritans as heretics in 1635, but the same Quakers were not heretics to Roger Williams who welcomed them to Rhode Island. In sum, heretics are simply those who refuse to conform to the prevailing beliefs of a particular group. Because Puritans ran a theocratic government controlled by the church, they were able to kill Quakers for “heresy.” But Rhode Island next door was not governed by puritan theocracy so Quakers could worship God freely next door. Just because you declare what Christians must believe doesn’t actually make it so. It only makes it heresy to you and yours. For example, the Council of Nicaea in 325 created its own doctrine about the Trinity, but it did not determine any NT books as sacred Canon. That came 50 years later when the Bishop of Alexandria Egypt wrote down his favorite books which he published in his Easter newsletter to congregations ONLY in Egypt. But many Christians in Europe did not accept the Bishop’s list of books which today form the NT canon. So we’re they heretics to Christ, or simply heretics in the Bishop’s mind?

One of the most appropriate hymns to be sung, especially during church service. It's all about soli Deo gloria.
