@@slevinchannel7589 Lack of diversity? I assume you mean in Classic Who, as I would say since RTD brought it back it has been rather diverse, but now they are taking it too far where they seem to have EVERY race and colour under the sun. Atleast with Mickey and Martha, they were more than just their ethnicity snd were interesting, well rounded and likeable characters. These days though it just seems like ticking the checkboxes. You deffo get the feeling that they are over compensating for the past, to the extent that it comes across as FORCED and UNNATURAL. Diversity is good and all as long as it is done right and with purpose, and that purpose is only for the sake of diversity then it fails to be compelling or interesting which is partly why Chinballs era just doesn't work.
Makros the Black glad I’m not the only I was worried as soon he was announce hate his episode but try to have hope that maybe he will have a different point of view as a show runner
Good idea !... It was the case between 2005 and 2009, if you remember well... Coz, who did create the 'Captain' Jack Harkness character ? Moffat, already; in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (the best episodes of series one...) And as two great fans, I'm sure that both of them did their best for the show, with RTD at the helmet of course... A cooperation of them two would be brilliant !! But do they want to ? Maybe they have others dreams or projects in mind...
JustSomeRandomGuy Online if you believe he is a better writer you are fucking delusional compare all of the scripts that Chibnall has written in series 11 to the Moffat scripts between 2005 and 2008 and there’s no debate from the empty child two parter, the library and of course Blink there’s no debate buddy
Nick Candy What else would a comment about an entertainment product on a RUclips video be if not an opinion? If you enjoyed it, that's fine, you enjoy it, that's your opinion, and it's okay for you to have it. My opinion is that it was a forgettable, uninteresting and creatively dull borefest, which for me is a huge shame because the show used to be something I looked forward to and enjoyed watching.
I liked it and it was never truely bad. There where some episodes or episodes with fun parts. And graham. Yeah it was certainly not a masterpiece but it was decent enough. I like that they stopped making contrieving storylines that make zero sense. How was the chance that chibnall would be a genius that flawlessy can save dr who from moffats run and his hardcore fans? Slim. Its still decent enough. If dr who is dead its because moffats flaws in showrunning.
@@fngoodmusic78 The problem people had (and still have) is that Moffat is a great writer and truly deserves to be writing for big shows such as Doctor Who and Sherlock, but he shouldn't be running them. I love the episodes he's written, but he just didn't do a very good job at showrunning. Chibnall seems to have looked at Moffat and gone in the complete opposite direction, and it's worse.
No, it should’ve been the master. It would’ve added so much more depth to their character, but no, Chibnall had to throw it all away and ruin the Doctor. Ugh
TPWDS I think it’s fixable if another showrunner comes on relatively soon. I know that’s unlikely but I feel like there has to be a way to overturn the numerous inexcusable changes that Chibnal had made. All it’ll take is a few retcons and a new, more escapism based take on the show and it could be back in no time. But, this is the BBC so all that is probably only a dream.
U are very right, the timeless child arc was utter rubbish. Chibnall is trying to explain why time lords regenerate and the origin...we dont want to know that! One of the most interesting things about the doctor is the lack of knowledge we know about his/her race. But i guess chibnall was running out of ideas. Also, isnt the doctor special enough? I mean the doctor is the sworn enemy of the dalek and the cybermen, which are some of the most dangerous species in the universe. The doctor is also the person who one the time war! He/She is special enough as it is. Now shes basically the chosen one...utter rubbish. I still dream what jodie whittaker's doctor could have been if moffat or davis were on the reigns.
I stopped watching before season 11 aired, but scrapping U.N.I.T. for a BREXIT joke? I take that as proof that Chibnall has no love, or respect, for the show and its 50+ years of history.
The thing is that the only country in the world who's financial contributions to a UN agency are substantial enough to cripple UNIT is the United States, which basically bankrolls most of the UN. It's incredibly easy to lump us in with a Brexit joke because of our wonderful president while actually giving a rational explanation for why UNIT isn't really a thing anymore. Without the US and UK they've had to basically use their remaining resources to relocate the Black Archive and everyone who's left is basically holed up at it's new location guarding it. Like it's really easy to just temporarily write UNIT out of the plot for a few seasons while we do the whole fresh new start thing.
The regeneration was too strenuous and the real thirteen is in a coma in a London hospital, dreaming about being a bland woman with a horrendous TARDIS design
I am hoping they pull a Dallas and we find out the Doctor was trapped in a time stasis at the moment of regeneration by the Rani. And what we saw were two series of the Rani trying to be the Doctor.
I got my 13 year old son into doctor who, he watched all of the revival series, from Rose to the end of series 10 until he started watching Jodie and the planks, and said it was boring now. He summed it up perfectly 😞
Honestly, I started watching from 13s first episode and enjoyed myself for the most part, but when I went back and watched the rest of the revival, when series 12 came about, I couldn’t be bothered to watch it. Great work, Chibby!
The "13 is a sociopath" observation has been supported by the most recent season, e.g., the scene where Graham confides in her his fears of his cancer coming back and she completely blows him off.
Yeah. Shouldn't she have said, "I've got a Time Machine that can go anywhere in the Universe. If it comes back I know a place and time where Cancer has been cured. Don't worry. We'll take care of it."
@@raydarable That's true, but since we know the Saxon!Master wasn't erased from the timeline (Death in Heaven, World Enough and Time) that, by extension, means that the Slitheen, the Racnoss, and the Sycorax all still exist in this timeline. concon09090 We don’t know what exactly was erased by the cracks in time. It’s mainly just a way to give the writers more freedom in deciding who knows what.
@@raydarable Well, he was disguised in Doctor Falls because he was worried Bill would recognise him, and Saxon explicitly references those events in The Sound of Drums.
I agree to everything you said. I am a 69 year old woman who has loved Dr Who since the beginning but with Jodie’s Dr I didn’t understand half of what was going on. I don’t think it was Jodie’s fault but fault of the writers and director. Hoping for better things to come when Russel T Davies is back.
Does anyone miss the parts when the doctor got really dark and you'd be terrified of him yet have adrenalin coursing through your veins at the same time? I know I do
But I didn’t hate Jodie. I hated the stories and the utter lack of development for the 13th doctor. If given the right material I feel like Jodie would have been so much better.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate just how good Season 11 was? At least, compared to Season 12. I just can't wait until Season 13 rolls around and makes Season 12 seem like an absolute masterpiece by comparison.

we can all agree that graham was the best part of the new series. i never like wittaker's doctor or chibnals writing. even some of the guest writers even did better than him
Wasn't Graham the only man on the show? So of course fans will like him, they're used to tuning into a show about a MAN. For 50 years, Doctor Who has been about a HERO, not about the antics of some women - that's a totally different type of show. Star Wars and Ghostbusters did the exact same thing: they took a beloved franchise that's all about heroic MEN, and replaced the characters with women. Not only is it ridiculous, but it's a total insult to the fans.

Good points. 👍 Also RTD introduced too many soap opera elements - was he a fan of Dimensions in Time? Moffat was just all over the place. And Chinballs is basically cut from the same cloth as Ruin Johnson & Krazy Kathleen. 😣 On the whole Classic Who rules. ✌️😎
... man, Moffat worked on the show a long time. Like, he show ran it for 8-ish years. And he worked on Sherlock. And he wrote at least one story for every previous series. So more like a 12 year relationship that was on and off again. If anything, Moffat was guilty of overworking himself, which led to less good writing. He still did a crap ton of good work though.
@@alexhenderson1312 No Big Finish Rules as taken Classic Doctors and developed their companions more than the tv series ever did yet still producing top notch stories in the spirit of the classic series
@Benjamin Davis In the case of Doctor Who, him writing more didn't make him less lazy. Churning out a higher quantity of lower quality is just as lazy as making a lower quantity.
@@garypayne4284 That is true - Big Finish has helped the Whoniverse expand in a variety of ways - but Classic Who was the template. 👍 Basically, Doctor Who should not have been axed in 1989.☹️ However, like the blogger Burrunjor, I regard New Who as an alternate timeline/reality like the Kelvin Timeline in Star Trek.
Actually a lot of people were very wary of Chibnall taking over. He hadn't written a decent Who episode... and still hasn't. He wrote the worst two episodes of Life on Mars. Broadchurch was seriously overrated. He is arguably a better showrunner than writer, which is probably why the BBC trusted him with the series. Then again the BBC is dreadful these days anyway. Personally I would have preferred Toby Whithouse or Neil Gaiman taking over from Moffat. Agree on the Paul McGann series idea.
The thing is, the quality of a writer and a writer's ability to be a competent show runner are two VERY different and unrelated things. Case in point: Moffat. I remember when Moffat was announced as RTD's successor - EVERYONE, myself included, were stoked because of episodes like Blink, Girl In The MIrror and the Empty Child two-parter. It seemed like the most logical thing. For Matt's first series, it was - fantastic series. But, it didn't take long after that for the quality of writing to diminish and for the smugness to exude. Moral of the story? While I am not a fan of Chinball's writing, it did nothing to prepare me for his success or failure as a showrunner. Yes, he dropped the ball VERY early in his tenure - but it's unrelated to his ability to write. It's more to do with his overall understanding and connection to the subject matter vs. knowing what the fanbase loves best about the beloved franchise.
I actually liked Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. But that's it. Everything else he's written just annoys me. It boggles the mind that they chose him to run the show. Moffat and Davies both wrote some pretty bad episodes. But they wrote some fantastic ones too. Even the bad ones usually had some redeeming bits.
I had that idea! I left it in comments all over the place! Although, my reasoning for it, was just to keep fans distracted, until we reach the Epic 60th anniversary special. I have it all planned out! We'll have Susan, Ian, The Valyard, and a Classic Doctors Vs New Doctors fight, with Paul McGann breaking it up! ( I'm hoping the solo series, will have fans familiar with him, by then!)
I find I'm bloody furious with Chibbedit. I have spent the last three years studying writing. Structure, character, tropes and suspense techniques. Even joke writing. I wish Chibbedit had. The man went to university but is absolutely clueless about the basics

He escapes the room and makes his way to the main console and leaves the TARDIS. The TARDIS dematerialises and leave something behind. He passed out on the beach and is taken in by an old David Tennant, the 10th. (Rose is already dead) The 14th has no idea who he is and 10th explains that he had entered a time fissure causing a parrellel event. He has to work with the 10th to build a event stabilizer to get back to the TARDIS, all without knowing who the 10th is until the very end.

Chibnall seems like an idiot, but he knows exactly what he is doing. He wants to drive away the original fanbase - even tho it means a huge financial hit for the series upfront (what does he care, after all, it isn’t HIS money) Then try to replace them with gullible types he can easily indoctrinate into the extreme left identity politics ideology. And he’s not alone, the decision makers at Star Wars, Star Trek, and alas, after holding out for so long, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are all on the same page with him. We have to face the fact that entertainment is becoming more, and more politicized. But we can still vote with our $.
@@thesparduck117 I appreciate your sentiment, they've just lost folks like me who used to spend a chunk of money on Who merch and really enjoyed the show. I've moved on and suspect alot of others have as well.
American here, I actually saw the Paul Mcgann Doctor as my first Doctor and I really liked it. I was young and didn't know it was a series. I remember thinking later because my grandmother recorded it. She was a scifi fan. I thought "why don't they make another one of these, this guy seemed cool. It took me years to realize that I had so much to watch. As a late fan I'm kind of sad I didn't get to see old WHO, as well as got to see, the end of WHO. I'm sorry for older and new fans.
When Chibnall was first announced, I wrote a comment in a forum about how ridiculous I thought the decision was, since Chibnall wrote the worst Doctor Who episodes ever. I pointed out that his success with Broadchurch was completely irrelevant, and predicted that the show would become mediocre and suffer a massive drop in ratings. When I said this, I was shot down and told I was being "childish" and "overdramatic" and I was basically treated like an idiot. So I feel quite vindicated by the fan reaction to the latest series. :-) I have not watched 'Doctor Whoman' since the regeneration, and won't be watching again. The Doctor is a MALE character and always has been.
: I wager any decent actor could play the Doctor *if* - very, very if - their Doctor was fashioned in a way complementery to the actor *and* that persona mapped out well and then written well. I, for one, bet she could play the Doctor but screwed up badly with the persona and has been gravely disserved by Chinball and the other writers on the show. Oh, and too many freakin’ companions.
The biggest problem for me was how there was no real conflict within Whittaker's Doctor, unlike the others in the New Who series. Eccleston was fresh off the Time War, the impact of his decision had not quite sunken in yet. Over the course of the season, I think he began to realise that he wasn't fully in the right, and by the end, he could not repeat what he had done in the Time War with the Delta Wave. Tennant lived with constant regret over what he had done, and in constant fear of himself and what he was capable of doing. the Family of Blood arc saw him disguise himself as human, "being kind" to the Family (as Son of Mine put it). He realised that being alone was not an option, and sought companionship in order to prevent himself relapsing back into the man he was. Smith was "the man who forgets", as the Moment had put it. He wanted to run all the time, run away from who he was and run away from where he was going. But as his time went on, he realised that he could not run forever, and that he could not put off the inevitable. Capaldi was a Doctor who had come to accept what he had done, and made all that pain a part of himself. His speech in The Zygon Inversion is a perfect example of the kind of Doctor that Capaldi is. He doubted whether or not he was a good man, and tried to ensure that the pain he felt would never be inflicted upon anyone else. And as for Whittaker...nothing. No inner conflict, no engaging character arc, nothing. She is a female Doctor for the sake of having a female Doctor, a character so bland, not even the Daleks (who I like to believe bring the best out of the Doctor) could save her.
Whittaker was appalling but the she was also given too many puerile lines to utter by the writers. Nearly every episode was written for 6 year olds - there was nothing for adult fans
So true - it really did feel like kids' TV, complete with one dimensional over-exaggerated characters, clunky 'message-driven' writing, and appalling bad acting.
This is the difference between a good actor and a hack. Tom Baker often interjected his own take on the character. cosplay Doctor did nothing with iffy lines, although, had she been a real actress, she would have improved them.
Who was excited about Chibnall? Maybe I was in different communities online to you at the time, but all I remember from that period was a range of reactions beyond 'We haven't seen it yet, it might not be that bad' and 'Chibnall wrote bad episodes, this is gonna hurt'
Personally I remember Chibnall mostly for his episodes during the Moffatt periode, because they always stood out. Chibnall didn't adhere to the Doctor Who lore and it made his episodes always stand out as "weird" and "not fitting." Dr. Who has always been portrayed as a vastly superior being with an enormous knowledge and experience. And that fitted, because as a Timelord he was thousands of years old and therefore had accumulated all that knowledge and experience over that very long time. Chibnall's episodes however had the Doctor run around just as clueless as his companions, only to have a kind of "aha" moment in the end, when he whipped out his Sonic Screwdriver, switch it on and waved it at the problem, instantly solving it. In normal or non-Chibnall episodes the Doctor looked for leads, remembered things from his earlier incarnations and/or vast Timelord knowledge, explained the problem and the solution and then fixed it. The Sonic Screwdriver in "normal" episodes was only a tool to open doors, fix equipment etc. But with Chibnall it wasn't the Doctor who solved the problems, it was the Sonic Screwdriver, acting as a kind of magical wand. And Chibnall kept this approach when he became the show runner. Another problem was that already in the Peter Capaldi era of the Doctor, BBC influence pushed the series really hard towards PC and Ultra-Feminism, with the Doctor cringing when some alien said something that wasn't PC (enough) or could be considered offending to someone looking for something to be offended about. The show already began to loose me there, it simply didn't feel like Dr. Who anymore. Gone was the superior Timelord who had a soft spot for Earth and its inhabitants, only to be replaced by an insecure old man who went out of his way to become more and more PC/Ultra-Feminist. When Chibnall announced that HIS Doctor would not only be female but HAD to be Jodie Whittaker and that his scripts would focus on a much more PC/Ultra-Feminist Doctor, it told me this new era wasn't going to return to the series roots, but instead it would keep continuing on the path the BBC had chosen. But I was still willing to give Chibnall/Whittaker a chance, so I watched a few episodes, thinking that with every new show runner it took some time to hit their stride and this would be the same. But things only got worse. Not only did Chibnall's scripts make even less sense than before, there was no "red-line" and it felt like each episode was a completely stand-alone "one off" story with absolutely nothing to do with the main series. Dr. Who had been turned into the old Twilight Zone series, where it's a series only in name, because no episode has any reference any other episode. And it got worse still, because the PC/Ultra-Feminism was enhanced to the point that the Doctor became a sort of PC/Ultra-Feminism spouting Oracle, running cluelessly around the Universe with PC correct companions, which for me killed of the last bit of leniency I was willing to give Chibnall/Whittaker. Dr. Who got shunted to a side-track by the BBC during the Capaldi era and suffered for it with steadily declining numbers. For fans of the series it was clear Dr. Who was on a dead end track, running merrily towards the end-stop where it would crash and burn. Under Chibnall there was not only no course correction, but the throttle was cranked open even more, like they didn't care they were running into disaster and actually wanted an even larger crash. Or maybe they thought they could just blast through the end-stop and somehow that would miraculously teleport them into a new realm, where the Chibnall/Whittaker Dr. Who somehow would be a success?
I was not excited by Chibnall’s hiring - I knew Dr Who was going to die the minute he was hired. I was proved right the minute he put his second choice am dram level protege in place.
Exactly. He was the writer I least wanted to be showrunner... although I did fail to predict how bad it was going to be. "The guest writers will still be good", I thought. In that I was partially right; the guest writers were better than Chibnall, but none of them were outstandingly good, because what I hadn't predicted was that Chibnall would use NONE of the established Who writers at all! I always had the impression he was arogant but I hadn't anticipated that he would be so arrogant as to turn his back on the entire established team.
If they decide to do a season 13, which I'm seriously hoping they decide not to at this point, the showrunner they choose will have such a huge mess to clean up created by Chibnall and Whittaker. I have no idea how this person is going to be able to clean it up ,if it all.
I watched all the episodes since I was little in the tennant era up to the end of capaldi era and I haven’t watched a single episode since he regenerated
I agree with you. Im not watching it anymore. Those 2 killed the show and yes i never but never liked the idea of turning the doctor into a woman to me the doctor is and should always be a man not a woman.
I’ve been watching since Tom baker. Soon as I heard the doctor was a woman I was done. You don’t take an iconic character and use and ruin it with sjw bullshit. Want a female time lord creat one don’t destroy the original
My dad's been watching the show ever since the very first serial in 1963, and series 12 was the first series he's avoided cos he disliked series 11 that much lol When I told him about the Timeless Child arc, he agreed that it's stupid.
series 11 is the first EVER season of doctor who i couldn't enjoy watching, even the seventh doctor's dumber episodes were enjoyable because of the character of the doctor
Colin Baker's 6th Doctor >>>>>>> Whittaker's 13th. And it's perplexing, because she is a fine actor and *could* -- with the right writing and direction -- be a fine Doctor.
I quit watching series 11 every week after Kerblam but Arachnids was my breaking point. Sci-fi like Doctor Who and Star Trek used to challenge its audiences and present ideas that could lead to the betterment of mankind, not pander to any kind of political or dogmatic ideology. I would be fine with this if and only if there were some kind of character development for the companions. I don't even care about the new TARDIS team *at all*. In fact, I would say that I cared more about Rory's dad who appeared in like 2 episodes more so than Ryan or Yaz or Graham even. Moffat at least did some decent characterization for his characters, for better or for worse.
To be honest the only one I don't really care about is Yaz. She doesn't move anywhere. Her character didn't develope during the whole season. What do we know about her? She's Pakistanian and she's a soon-to-be police officer. That's it? That's not much. Her episode "The demons of Punjab" didn't bring anything new to her character. Graham letting go of his "I'm gunna kill that munster for what it did to me wife" was a good thing, we can call that a character developement as there's at least some progress. Same with Ryan accepting "his" gramps. I'm not counting his coming to terms with dad as that was kinda forced by the situation of his dad's life being at risk. Did I mention the Doctor? Well she is the Doctor in some situations, she's brilliant, when on the scene. Problem here is, she's not on the scene enough, it's like if it was more about her companions, shouldn't they call it "Companions Who" instead? The writing needs to improve, I hope we'll get better stories, more of the Doctor and less of "companion side stories" in the next season.
I couldn't stand watching anymore of season 10, however from what i have seen from it, is absolute shit. If i recall correctly in one of the episodes, the world ending conflict was some foot ball sized spiders in a hotel that they scared away.. with music?? It really brings to shame what excuse of writing can be aired these days, its a damn disgrace to the older seasons.
What got me was that the better Doctors tend to be less than enamoured with the change or at the very least weirded out. Whitaker was like, "I'm a woman now, brilliant!" You know which other Doctor was that egotistical when he first regenerated? Colin Baker.
This latest "Doctor" was no more and no less a failed "spin off" attempt at introducing a Time Lady to our screens. She had nothing to do with the Doctor we grew up with. In time, with a good sci-fi writer, a good actor to play the 13th Doctor and the BBC finally getting their act together, we'll have things back as they should be. Whereas Elisabeth Sladen suceeded immeasureably with her spin off, Jodi Whittaker failed miserably with hers.
agree. also if they wanted to strenght female presence they could have just made a spin off based on the fates of Clara and Me(ashildr) and their adventures in the dinner place tardis
Very casual Who fan here (I actually find myself enjoying the old stuff more than some of the new) and I have to agree, giving Paul McGann some more opportunities to be the Doctor would be awesome.
He had brilliant Audio Stories, but one way to put him back on screen would be another featuring in a special. He just had some special features (like being the first Doctor having strong romantic interaction with an earthly woman, only as one example) that would make him a good teamer with himself in another incarnation.
The most disgusting aspect of all this is Chibnall's maliciousness in his efforts to dismantle the entire mythology of Doctor Who. These are sinister people with obvious self-loathing as well. It's a shame there's no legal recourse against intentional destruction of IPs, but every single fan in the UK should refuse to pay the BBC license fee in protest.
On the female doctor thing, I'm split between the two sides. I see nothing wrong with the doctor being female. What I don't like is that they specifically went for a female doctor, instead of just making it open to everyone.
The writings been poor for the most part. But if they were going for a female doctor they got the wrong actress from Broadchurch. It should have been Olivia Coleman without question.
There's nothing wrong with having a female lead but here's it's just done so poorly. Gender doesn't matter in creating a good character. Each doctor was memorable for their own reasons and personality but this doctor really has nothing going for her except the fact that she's female and therefore polarising. I found series 11 to be pretty boring and often times felt like I was watching a CBBC show... but the worst part was arguably the constant social commentary which I feel is going to end up dating the Chibnall era very badly.
He has come back as the doctor in audios. It would be really awesome to see him come back in specials once in awhile as the eighth doctor, while the BBC straighten stuff out in between series. However, to have Paul McGann come back as the doctor again as the 13th, 14th, or even the 15th doctor unfortunately could never happen.
@@enorth7301 I find it also sexist to women, suggesting women can't create their own iconic charicter, so they have to take over what men have created.
I absolutely loved the idea of the doctor being a woman. I too was rooting for Jodie, but as soon as I heard the writing, I hung my head in shame and just buried it in the sand... Waiting for the season to be over.
Smith had an epic entrance - "i'm the Doctor, basically run" And at the end I have just noticed this video is one year old but everything you say is so spot on even a year later.

Spot on sir. I’ve been cut adrift by Doctor Who over this last year and began doubting my sanity that the show, THE show I’ve loved my whole life and helped shape me as the man I am and want to be has been ripped from my circle of enjoyment. There was no joy in series 11, no wonder and no excitement. A lack of credible villains and constant lecturing really made me want to rip my eyes out. I now have no hope that this show will recover in the near future, series 12 is in production and I do not believe that Chibnall will learn from anything, there hasn’t been enough time for him to reflect on the damage he has done. And another thing, how, after one year - in fact long before one year can he and the production team be so badly out of ideas that they couldn’t come up with a Christmas special? I fear for the future of the greatest show in the galaxy
Exactly! When you said there is no joy in series 11, I couldn’t agree more! When I started watching the show a few years ago (it wasn’t available in Brazil before that), what got me hooked up was the joy. I won’t be watching any more new episodes until Chibnal and Whitacker leave the show.

@@philippebernard4577Obrigada pela dica. Felizmente eu tenho acesso a Amazon e posso assistir Doctor Who por lá.
The original intent behind the educational stuff was a fictional show that highlighted historical events accurately... that is to say, to depict a non-biased view of the events surrounding said time period... that is to say, the events would be the back drop to the actual story, not the focus of the story themselves.
My personal opinion of why is because chibnal doesn't seem to understand why doctor who was good . It was never cause it was SciFi and futuristic. It was the humanity and brilliance of the Doctor's character his relationship with the companions

nemy Many actors playing the Doctor have been given bad scripts to work with and they still manage to make great work out of it. Smith, Tennant, Capaldi, Eccleston... all managed to make even the dullest writing interesting with their takes. Whittaker? Sorry but no what a mess.
Maybe if we are real lucky they will find the remaining 9 episodes of The Daleks Master Plan. Now there is some REAL DOCTOR WHO for you. Or any Pertwee or Baker will do.

@@carealoo744 The SJW's would be standing in line "REEEEEE"-ing their lungs out. Besides, the BBC really only is going forward with this whole "inclusiveness"-thing, that more and more excludes straight white men. Ignoring the current season would be going a step back with this, unless the next Doctor would be a disabled black lesbian and she picks up where Capaldi left off since it's not ONLY the forced inclusiveness that sucks nowadays; it's also the bad acting and weak writing.
I've been watching Dr Who since the 1960s. Historically, it consistently proves to be bad for the show when ego driven directors insist upon trying to leave their personal mark on the show. JNT is a classic example and so are Moffat and Chibnall. I have no issue with a female Dr, as of course there was a female time lord in the very first episode. ( Susan) , but poor quality script writing for the sake of ludicrous political correctness will kill off the show with alarming speed, as will the recent insistence upon instant gratification episodes where it is assumed that no-one can concentrate on a story that lasts more than 45 minutes. It's a bit insulting really.
I never saw JNT as a demagogue; some people thought he overdid the nostalgia, but I loved it, especially as a relatively new American Whovian who always wanted to learn more about the show and its history.
Even despite the poor reception of Collin Baker and Paul McGann, no one ever went around claiming they were not the doctor like people have done with Jodie Whittaker.
I stopped watching DW after few episodes of the Chibnal run. It was UNWATCHABLE and I agree with you: the disappointment was even higher because the first episode wasn't bad at all! Also, yeah, TIMELESS is fricking awesome!
I gave up after episode 3 (Rosa Parks), every episode of the last season had become the politically correct driven crap i had feared it would become, it started with Billie, she annoyed the hell out of me way more than bossy Clara, only Capaldi kept me watching as he could carry any shit episode with his performance. I didn't rate the first episode of the last season that highly either, purely because it started with a black kid who couldn't ride a bike which is again more politically correct crap written in for the sake of it and whilst i love Graham and he was easily the best part of last season, his complete denial of alien life when the Doctor told him she was an alien was just bad writing as the entire world in Doctor Who knows about aliens due to the various invasions from season 2 on-wards (season 1's was covered up).
There were episodes.. most of them, actually, that I had to just sort of skim through on slight fast forward through some scenes because I was cringing so hard it was painful. Unwatchable is definitely how I'd describe it.
I never watched a single episode because I already knew what he was going to do. I told the whole internet, but no one believed me. Ever since I watched his Torchwood episode, Cyberwoman, I knew that he had no respect for the Doctor Who narrative. It was also Chibnall who tried to kill Torchwood behind Davies' back. Well he did kill it, but Davies made a deal with the BBC to bring it back
Another thing. You said he wanted to get new fans into the show. If I wanted to get someone into dr who I always show them the 11th hour. To me it perfectly incapsulates that key feelings of the doctor. The confusion of who he is The curiosity of what he does The excitement you get when you realize this space jack sparrow you assume is just flying by the seat of his pants...Is actually just executing his flawless plan while probably thinking about what kind of tie he’s going to wear tomorrow.
@MetaPlanet True, this is where the "Ruth Doctor" nonsense started but you can also make a case for Orphan 55, the worst story ever made in Doctor Who!
I totally agree with you. Since the release of Series 11’s “The Woman Who Fell To Earth”, I have only been able to watch up to The Tsundra Conundrum, which took me as longs as the WHOLE of New-Who to watch. It is infuriating to watch such a bad series from such a incredible show. I really hope it improves, and if not, then I’m going back to Series 5 and 6
Wen a Dr who fan starts suggesting other time machine related shows to watch instead of Dr who u know it's bad times I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this towards the new Dr who...
The funny thing is that Moffat seems to have really liked super complicated story lines and really _really_ weird romance plots. But the thing he excelled at was the thing he rarely did, that being simple and contained stories about freaky, scary ideas taken to their logical and horrific extremes. He was really good at making iconic and *terrifying* monsters.
I love Steven Moffat's time as showrunner, even the low points were miles above series 11's high spots. Series 12 needs to be completely different or it might be the very last.
I have massive respect for Steven Moffat. The guy had balls and was willing to take risks but also showed great respect for Doctor Who lore and clearly loved the show. He's a lifelong fan and it shows in his work. Russell T Davies revived the series but Steven Moffat's my favourite show runner by a fairly significant margin.

Well said and reasoned. I agree especially on the UNIT factor. Especially since UNIT was a) a United Nations organization and who funds the UN the USA; and b) UNIT was spearheaded by the United Kingdom. It had nothing to do with with the EEC the precursor of the EU. As soon as I saw that blip, I said forget it and deleted three unseen episodes of the series. Also the one that toke place in India, I enjoyed it -BUT, no mention whatsoever that partition was the decision of the Muslim League as led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. But no, we had to blame the British. (On a side note, Churchill warned about the violence after independence.) The mere fact that India could exist as a nation and then the two was due to British influence. Otherwise it would be a motley collection of principalities. I think the first lady Doctor should have been a very striking person with an ability to have a commanding presence. Jody Whittaker couldn't pull that off. Chibnall's writing is just plain awful. The first female Doctor could have been such a awesome opportunity, instead it was wasted on politically correct nonsense and social justice warrior crap. Did Romana ever whine about the discourtesy given to her by men? No, she got on with it.
RTD was a bit too fond of silliness and fanservice but when he was on top form he was brilliant. The "soapy" angle of the 2005 series grounded the show in a way that made it accessible to all, with those elements gradually giving way to more of a classic Who feel, albeit very modern and relatable. Moffat had a habit of making everything 5x more complicated than it needed to be but he also added a lot of great elements to the mythos and for that I will always be grateful. Chibnall turned the Doctor into a Blue Peter presenter (if you watch the series back, Jodie frequently gives a recap of everything that's happened about two thirds of the way in) and the lack of continuity from episode to episode somehow made the word of Who feel smaller. The only episode I enjoyed was Kerblam, and even that was like a middling episode from RTD's run. The show needs a major overhaul. Less gloomy dimly lit shots, more action and adventure.
To me RTD era was the best. I Wish Rose would come back. Like Rose finds her way back to the doctors world and Rose is shocked when she finds out her boyfriend (The Doctor) is a girl. it be amazing!
Bring back Tom Baker, that’s what I say 😂 Any way I’m back to watch The Masque of Mandragora...... you can keep Jodie Whittaker. I’ll take old school Dr Who any day.
I didn't really care if Doctor Who was a woman. But this was just so especially mishandled. First the BBC chose to push their agenda. Next Jodie stated in an interview that skimmed about two episodes staring David Tennant. She just went. "Okay. I think that I have got it. Be an utter twat, say sorry a lot, have the personality of a cheese sandwich, and cut out all the fun stuff. I can do that. And if anyone doesn't like it that's not my fault." Then we have the checkbox type casting. While three companions have worked in Classic Who before they were all just so bland and unlikable with traits, skills, and flaws that were never used. They were basically there to bitch about how the white man kept them down. Then they kicked us in the teeth with really badly designed monsters. They are just really bad, bad alien designs. Classic Who used rubber spiders and plastic wrap and they were at least twice better than this clusterf**k How? This is a multi-million dollar franchise. Nobody who worked on this season wanted the job. Chinballs didn't want it, Apologetic Jodie didn't want it, the companions didn't want it. BBC has again and again proved that they hate Doctor Who. Then they made the Tardis green and made the interior look like s**t. I think that was the biggest betrayal of them all.
I absolutely LOATH the new shit excuse for a design. The Tardis used to capture the mystical Sci-F feel that this show used to bring to us, now it just looks like a meth heads shitty apartment condo.
Jodie is on record as saying she models her performance on her favourite Dr. Unfortunately, that's Doc Brown from Back to the Future. You couldn't make it up.
I want someone to take over doctor who and hire Peter capaldi to do the end of 'the doctor falls' again. Just that he regenerates into someone that isn't jodie. Just completely retcon series 11 out of existance
That would never happen. Capaldi is wayyyyy too nice of a dude and would refuse to do it just because of how classy he is. Sure Jodie is bad but Capaldi would also make himself look bad and offend many members of the cast and crew of series 11 and not all of them are bad people or bad at their job or anything (Bradley is wonderful).
It's quite sad. Chibnall has taken the series to that difficult phase where the BBC and the hardcore fans have grown tired of the show; it took the original series 25 years to reach that point, but Chibnall took us there in just a single series.
@@wilfordbrimleyful Moffat was taking us there already. Capaldi was the only thing carrying the show. Series 11 brought in more viewers so the BBC are certainly happy, or at least not as unhappy as before.
That is a fantasy of mine. Just show his regeneration again then cut to someone else, have them sit up, covered in sweat and say "what a horrible nightmare. Well, that's over." I had a similar desire for "Ghostbusters" where Dan Akroyd is tossing and turning in his sleep, then we see quick clips of the female Ghostbusters then he wakes up in a sweat and says "what a horrible nightmare".
@@V-grandraccoon They actually don't need him. It would be easy to re-edit what they have and change him into someone else. Even easier just to reveal that her Doctor was a misfire regeneration (which is why she's so emotionally messed up and doesn't have her own personality). I dare them to have him regenerate back into a man and say something like "am I glad to be back, all that estrogen. How do women get anything done." After all, they had that Timelord that went from man to women and said about the same thing about being a man. Equality SHOULD cut both ways. Fair is fair.
That’s because she was cast purely because Chibnall wanted his mate in the role. I find it hard to believe Whittaker’s audition was better than anyone else’s.
Yes! 👍 👏 That would be fantastic. 😎 David Warner's Unbound Doctor is like a continuation of Classic Who more or less. 👍 I certainly felt there was plenty of scope for the War Doctor (John Hurt RIP 😞). Unfortunately much of New Who was like a soap, and the less said about Series 11 the better! 😒

....and a piss-poor attitude off screen (specifically when being interviewed to promote the show) that arguably borders on unprofessional. Her sizeable 'chip' really needs to be removed from her shoulder (surgically if necessary) as a matter of urgency....
I already had this idea since 2013 to have a “spin-off” series with Paul McGann as the Doctor. This series would contain ~6 episodes and I think they should still consider doing it before it’s too late. The series would be called ‘Series 0’.
I didn't think Chibnall was the right choice as show runner, as most of the previous Doctor Who episodes he wrote were by far my least favourites. I was happy that finally there was going to be a female Doctor, but thought Whitaker with Chibnall wasn't the best match. I was somewhat reassured by her lead role in 'Trust Me', which showcased what a brilliant lead actor she is. But the Whitaker/Chibnall combo, for me doesn't work. Had Moffat stayed on for 1 more series, that combo, I feel would have been a ground breaking double act. Chibnall could have carried on with series 12 with a) a solid base to build on and b) the backing of most of the fan base. There was no need for Chibnall to reinvent the wheel, the basics are there - great actors, great stories, fairly good special effects, great locations and Daleks. A little window dressing and a decent budget and you have Doctor Who. Stick to that formula, and you can't go wrong. As for 'Rosa', at times I wasn't sure if I was watching Chibnall's or Disney's Doctor Who. The story was told like a santisied history lesson for 4 year olds. The villain, was little more than a parody with no substance and added little to the plot. The sad thing is, this was one of the better episodes of this run, and I rated it 3/10! It is interesting that there was a backlash against Moffat up to a few months ago, and now, at last, many of those fans are realising that Moffat wasn't so bad after all. Moffat, like all of us has faults, but he can create a story, sell it to an international audience and vitally, do so consistently, something that Chibnall hasn't yet achieved. Given time, Chibnall may be able to pull it off, but with Netflix, Apple and other international media power houses fighting for our collective attention, Chibnall's time and luck are rapidly running out.
I walked away from The Doctor after ONE line spoken by her.... "I've had an UPGRADE!!"..... Uhmm, no. No Doctor. You definitely have NOT. That one line was a slap in the face of long term fans and everything and every character that had come before.... So I turned and left because after all, I was constantly being told that the show was 'not for me' and to 'sit down and be quiet'... I obviously was not alone.
Tom Baker is in his 80s and still one of the funniest men on earth. He could do the part easily and be great. Paul McGann was great in that TV pilot which is not nearly as bad as its reputation and has been brilliantly playing the doctor in audio shows for years. Either would be great.

Moffat wrote some of the worst episodes before he took over Blink and The Girl In The Fireplace being the worst
Broadchurch wasn’t overrated but I agree with everything else
@NotSoRadical YT Well, that's the funny thing: his DW was less DW than his SJA was.
I honestly don't know anyone who had confidence in Chris Chibnall becoming showruiner.
His past record on Doctor Who and Torchwood was abysmal.
I mean, he wrote some of the best episodes of Torchwood. He also wrote some of the worst, but much more infrequently.
Torchwood worked as drama, mostly, and had barrowman.
I have not watched 'Doctor Whoman' since the regeneration, and won't be watching again. The Doctor is a MALE character and always has been.
I was hoping he'd bring some of his Broadchurch influence into the mix and have some kind of ongoing arc. Nope.
Are those episodes any worst than The Tripe Moffat wrote? At least Chibnall didn’t write The Girl In The Fireplace
Lmao. "whittaker is completely incapable of playing the doctor."
Best line this year
Truest line this year. 👍🏻
still the truest line in 2020
: I wager any decent actor could play the Doctor *if* - very, very if - their Doctor was fashioned in a way complementery to the actor *and* that persona mapped out well and then written well. I, for one, bet she could play the Doctor but screwed up badly with the persona and has been gravely disserved by Chinball and the other writers on the show. Oh, and too many freakin’ companions.
The only way this could become worse now is if chibnall revealed through a story that the doctors name is actually Jeff or something.
DON'T GIVE HIM IDEAS!!
he did something much worse
They're not trying to get children but people with the IQ of a 6 year old
This is the difference between a good actor and a hack. Tom Baker often interjected his own take on the character. cosplay Doctor did nothing with iffy lines, although, had she been a real actress, she would have improved them.
FockYouMang that says a lot about Chibnall
I agree completely. Write the show for adults!
Chibnall didn't adhere to the Doctor Who lore and it made his episodes always stand out as "weird" and "not fitting."
Dr.
MyAbridged I was excited and now.......not so much
I was not excited by Chibnall’s hiring - I knew Dr Who was going to die the minute he was hired.
I have no intention of watching any further Doctor Who until Chibnall/Whittaker are gone.

Kerblam! and Demons of the Punjab were hands down the only good episodes of series 11
@Evil Doctor PorkChop Rather ironic that you stopped after Tennant, given the Smith era is by far the best of New Who...(esp series 5)

He had brilliant Audio Stories, but one way to put him back on screen would be another featuring in a special. A pertinent question to add to your brilliant observations Alan; 'WHY' they went for a female Doctor?
But they've specifically gone for male Doctors in the past? What's the issue of doing it the other way around?
The writings been poor for the most part. But if they were going for a female doctor they got the wrong actress from Broadchurch. It should have been Olivia Coleman without question.
There's nothing wrong with having a female lead but here's it's just done so poorly. Gender doesn't matter in creating a good character. Each doctor was memorable for their own reasons and personality but this doctor really has nothing going for her except the fact that she's female and therefore polarising. It's just a stupid discussion at this point.

@@MarcelNL in what way would you like The Doctor to be racist?
Words can't express just how dire Whittaker's portrayal of The Doctor is.
it was quite simply----- dire-rhea !!!

Hate the gender bending and PC nonsense.
Bring back Tom Baker, that’s what I say 😂
Any way I’m back to watch The Masque of Mandragora...... you can keep Jodie Whittaker.
And if anyone doesn't like it that's not my fault."
Then we have the checkbox type casting. While three companions have worked in Classic Who before they were all just so bland and unlikable with traits, skills, and flaws that were never used. They were basically there to bitch about how the white man kept them down.
Then they kicked us in the teeth with really badly designed monsters. They are just really bad, bad alien designs. Classic Who used rubber spiders and plastic wrap and they were at least twice better than this clusterf**k
How? This is a multi-million dollar franchise. Nobody who worked on this season wanted the job. Chinballs didn't want it, Apologetic Jodie didn't want it, the companions didn't want it. BBC has again and again proved that they hate Doctor Who.
Then they made the Tardis green and made the interior look like s**t. I think that was the biggest betrayal of them all.

Well, that's over." I already had this idea since 2013 to have a “spin-off” series with Paul McGann as the Doctor.
I've lost faith in the BBC tbh, especially in these times
The BBC needs to fire Chibnall
