I have seen a few videos with this camera/lens combo and it fits your criteria for taking out methinks Craig. I am sure there will be many FF Nikon shooters using it the same as you. For image quality it looks to be very good. I am a Canon / Panasonic shooter . atb Al
Al, thank you for commenting. It does meet my criteria, but I am still curious about other options. Are you using the Canon for stills, video, or both? Or is Panasonic your video system? Thanks again for supporting my efforts. Peace and Safe Travels.
@@CraigNiesenPhotography Until recently the Panasonic S5 (FF) was my stills & video camera but I have just bought a Canon R for shooting stills... the S5 will remain a hybrid camera for me. I used to shoot Canon for years and I'll be honest I have missed it so sold all stuff I wasn't using and got enough for an R with a 24-105 RF mount. I should probably do a video on it but maybe 6 months down the line.
2 years late... I purchased the Z FC with the 16-50 and the 50-250 ... then couldn't help myself and got the 24mm F/1.7 . As a Canon shooter, I'm very impressed with the kit lens quality!
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always great to hear from fellow photographers, especially those coming from different brands. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Peace and Safe Travels
The quality of the photo and video looked crisp, a handy camera to use when not doing some 'serious' photography, family vacation and sightseeing would be useful. Autumn colours also arriving late here in England, hoping for a good showing soon before the leaves are blown off the trees.
Russ, the quality of the photos and videos were excellent coming out of the Nikon Z fc. While I love shooting with a full-frame camera, this camera reminded me that some of my fine art pieces were created with the Pentax K5 and kit lens. Two of which were awarded first place in photography in art fairs. And one of the two also won me "best in show". With that being said, If I pick one up, it would most likely be for video and replace my current video setup, which I find lacking😉. It's an excellent all-around entry-level camera. And at the price point, I would recommend it to someone who is getting started or wants to move up from using a smartphone camera. We've been in and out of storms since I filmed this last weekend. The winds have knocked a lot of leaves down, but now we are getting steady rain. There might be a little hope for Autumn colors if I can find areas that were sheltered from the 60mph winds😉. I hope you can get out find some color as well. Russ, thank you for commenting and supporting my efforts. Life has been really crazy for me, and I need to carve out time to watch your latest videos. I think that I am two weeks right now. Peace and Safe Travels.
Hi Craig - Thanks for the thought provoking video. It’s funny that you bring this up just now. Corinne and I have been thinking about obtaining an inexpensive 35 mm to carry in the front of Red Rover. We are finding that the phones just don’t quite give us enough scope, but we are hesitant (too lazy) to get out the landscape cameras to take a few quick snaps and/or video from a location. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Shawn and Corinne, with everything that has been going on in my life lately, I needed something to challenge me creatively. Renting the Nikon Z fc and doing this self-challenge was it. It helped me break out of the mindset that I have been having. I was forced to throughout preconceived composition ideas and just let the day and walk bring what they would. While I had the Nikon Z fc I was taking it with me. It would sit either on the center console. Or up in the dash cubby of my truck, just waiting for the moment that a composition happened to come along. I kind of wish that I would have had a quick grab camera like this at a certain creek that we visited with you and Corinne😉. My blinders would come off, and I would have jumped and made a photograph. Shawn and Corinne, thank you both for the ongoing support of the channel and our efforts. Peace and Safe Travels.
This is such a good video for a regular guy like myself that just purchased the camera with the 28mm kit and thinking about adding the other kit lens down the road.
Thank you for making bark exciting. Beautiful photos. The weight of that camera makes it pretty appealing. just bought something else though...and I'm not telling for awhile. -Chris
Chris, thank you for your kind words. Sometimes you have to photograph what is in front of you and find a way to create something artful out of it😉. If I had to guess, I would say that you picked up a new Canon mirrorless. Thanks again for supporting my efforts. Peace and Safe Travels.
Nice review. I shoot Nikon FF for my paid work but just ordered the ZFC for light travel and video stuff for fun. I’m really liking that simple 16-50 kit lens. PS…nice shirt…big KYD fans here. :)
Thank you very much! I also shoot with a Nikon FF for all of my paid work. I rented the Nikon ZFC while looking for the perfect lightweight kit for filming and getting more reach for my videos. I picked the Nikon Z30 instead. I have been impressed by the Nikkor 16-50mm kit lens. There are times that I wish that I would have brought the ZFC. I miss having a viewfinder. Shelley and I are big KDY fans as well. Thank you for watching and commenting. Sorry that it took so long for me to reply. Life has been really hectic of late. Peace and Safe Travels
I agree that the Nikon Zfc is a great and affordable camera. I have one and bought the Small Rig L Shape Bump which helps me holding the camera plus being adaptable for attachments to tripod and other devices. I have used both DX kit lenses from my Z50 and FX lenses on this camera. The new firmware update makes this camera better in my opinion for faster autofocusing. The dials on the camera has helped me to understand the different functions for aperture compensation, ISO and shutter speed. Plus being portable and light weight is awesome. I am waiting for the 28mm lens for my two DX cameras to try it out. The only thing I mIss is that I like the button layout on the Z50 than the Zfc. All buttons on one hand is more efficient for productivity. Of course the charging capability of the USB C is great keeping the camera filming when streaming. I hope you will buy this product.
Randall, thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate your feed and experiences with the Nikon DX mirrorless cameras. Thanks again. Peace and Safe Travels.
Cool idea there Craig. The first thing that struck me was that the footage and images look crisp and clear. The FOV looks good for video too. Thanks for sharing.
Andrew, I was really impressed with the overall quality of the camera and lens. The autofocus system is responsive. My only complaint is that it has to go back Thursday night😢 CDT. Thank you for supporting my efforts. Peace and Safe Travels.
I'm curious about some of your ISO/shutter speeds. Are you using auto-iso? In your first image your shutter speed is super fast at 1/1000 with ISO at 800. Was that intentional?
I was not using auto-iso, and the high shutter speed was intentional. I tend to shake when handholding any camera. I wanted to make sure that the photograph was sharp.
Hi Craig! Love the bark pictures and love the review of this camera as a quick grab and go Vlog/photo camera. Love that it’s small and lightweight! Did you use a mic on it? It takes great video quality. Thanks for sharing. Love the rental idea!!
Hi Tammy and Scott, I thought that you might like the bark photographs😉. It is a lovely lightweight setup to grab and go with. I did not use the mic on the camera in this video, but there will be another video down the road where I do. The Nikon Z fc video has handled all of the video tasks that I have thrown at it better than my current setup. It is much easier to change exposure settings and get the look I am going for with this camera. Renting makes it so much easier to try before you buy. When dealing with equipment that can cost as much most camera gear, even entry-level gear, I love renting it for a week, or two, to make sure it is what I want before laying out the bucks. The cool thing about lensrentals.com is that you can purchase the equipment you have rented, and they will subtract up to 7 days of rental fees off the purchase price. And no, I am not all affiliate. I just love the service that I have received every time that I have used their services. Maybe, once I get more subscribers, I'll apply😉. Tammy and Scott, thank you both for supporting my efforts. Shelley and I cannot wait to meet up someday. Until then, peace and safe travels.
Honestly when I first saw the camera I thought film not digital - fab retro look there. Got to saw that kit lenses whilst limited are generally brilliant now a days :)
