This is just like mine !
Once they realize that they've got a steady provider, they suddenly become very picky and mine is all spoiled up now.
Used to only the best pine nuts he only eats the most perfectly shaped ones and throw off the others with shrug - and they are very pricy.
I regret the day I introduced him to them.

I feed my pair of wild woodpigeons Brazil nuts, they eat about 8 and then they stop and think about what to do because they are stuffed. That is 8 Brazil nuts per bird per day, I suppose they eat again later but they do not come back until the same time the next day.

The biggest predator to wildlife is Mankind, This is lovely to watch. I have a small open barn type shed with a wood pigeon sat on a nest incubating 2 eggs, I only noticed when i went in to get my mountain bike and she flew off the nest so now i do not go in there because i do not want to disturb the bird.

It's a fledgling! Sounds more like a mix of a Seagull and a Goose at that age.

Much older than a fledgeling the collar has started & that takes months.

Although it's beautiful it's also sad because they become dependent and trusting which is always to their detriment eventually. But then again... someone has to care.

Did you raise him? If not, he was a lost fledgling, I hope you kept him safe until he was ready to be on his own!

All I can say is you have some good luck to take a wood pigeon. They are not such a fan of being round people and they are scared birds. But well done
(Recommend to me 10 years later) thanks RUclips.

Without seeing more, I assume it is an orphan....at that age they still need a bit of force feeding I think, ie holding them lightly and putting nuts down the back of their throat. I don't think they are old enough to identify food and have the instinct to eat when it is just sitting in front of them.

Pigeons don't eat break. Their stomach can't digest it. And they don't eat that other thing neither.

Would love an update on what happened to this fledgling, and I agree with the others that It seems like it needed help feeding like it's parents would do for it. Also Bread isn't good for pigeons, and anything salty. Best is grains and seeds, they love sunflower hearts for example. Looks like it was around 20 days old approx in this video from comparing it to fledglings I have been watching growing up.
Is this pigeon still ok? Do you still see it or has it moved on now it's an adult etc?

    • @christiangrey3645

It seemed to be in a very helpless state in the video - it was trying to get him to regurgitate food - and from its appearance, it looked like it was blooming into adulthood. Sadly wood pigeons - or any pigeon in the wild have a life expectancy of only 5-6 years. So there is little to no chance it survived for very long afterwards. Of course, there may have been more from that family, but who can say?
P.S. Even if it did survive, it's been 10 years.
