Patagonia needs to send you some free stuff. LOL. I have to mention all funny it was that toddler mooned you half way through the video. But a serious question are you bear bagging? I haven't heard you mention it. Love the vlogs, keep hiking, stay strong.
Even though you guys didn’t enjoy making this video....I think it is a great one. Families who may be interested in doing what you guys are doing...even just a section hike, can learn so much from the way you have delegated to each family member to make a trip like this possible. Almost every hiker does a pack tour, so to speak, but they almost all seem the same. Very interesting to see one on this scale. Thanks for sharing!
hey Ben, I really like the part about the water, I hike for 45 years, never filtered water, just drunk from streams and lakes, during the quarantine I watched lots of hike vlogs and everyone talks about filtering water, so honestly I panicked, I need to get amazing filter(filters) for me and my kids, I thought, and then I heard you, HA! voice of one crying in the wilderness))) just speaking my mind...now, I'm at peace again ;)
with all the extras you keep for rainer and the cold weather gear for him and the rest of the kids I can see where someone would call social services ( Sarcastic font missing ) you are very well prepared and taking good care of yourself and the kids. Keep up the hike
Interesting and helpful video, and just plain fascinating to see what all it took in terms of planning and prep to get all that stuff figured out and allocated appropriately to each member of the family. And as always Cami fills in the last bit with her sense of humor and wit. Love her. Thanks to both of you for accomodating us "gearheads" insatiable appetitie for these gear vids.
Thank you guys so very much for this. I not usually a commenter, but my partner and i have been discussing backpacking next year with our, now, 19 mth old. So it's very informative seeing what and how you guys are packing. I recently purchased a Ospery Poco ag plus, before that I never even considered the fact that backpacking with her would be possible. I'm constantly doing my research but you don't really find much information out there about gear for younger ones so this was very helpful. Thank you guys again and keep on keeping on 😁
Any chance of potty training on the trail? Cami, I admire your strength in carrying a 30-something lb pack. You are such a strong woman... in so many ways! You guys are looking fit and thin- time to calorie up. Speaking of which....will there be a trail meal video? Hike on, Crawford’s!!
Great informative video. So great that the kids not only carry particular things for the whole family but that they are also in charge of re-supply. Everyone pitching in and being an important piece to this puzzle called the Crawford AT thru hike. Without one of the pieces, the puzzle is not complete. I am enjoying your videos so much, glad I found you guys. Who needs T.V.
I've heard a lot of different opinions between boots, trail runners, etc. What ever you like best is fine. The only thing I dont understand is why eveyone thinks boots = blisters. If your getting blisters you're in the wrong boots, or you've sized them incorrectly. As long as you understand your foot shape and get a brand that fits accordinly, you'll be 100% fine.
Thanks, Crawfords, this is really cool. We've gone on 1 overnight backpacking trip (& lots of car camping) with our 9 &10 yr. olds & have thought about doing the AT. Neat to see how you distributed your gear & what kinds of gear you've liked. We may have to try the 2-person quilt- I was kind of cold with our 20 deg. bags in 30-35 deg weather. And Merrells- we've liked that brand, but just had regular sneakers on our one trip & our feet/legs got pretty sore- maybe just from 1st day hiking. Did your kids talk about sore feet/legs the first few days/weeks on the trail? Enjoying your videos, wishing you more trail joy as you journey on together!
Fabulous drone shot of you all on the ground! Very informative video. Makes me rethink my sleeping pad for next year. Thanks for the hard work putting this video together.
As worn out as you where I’m so very grateful for this video! I’m planning to take my two boys on the AT 2024.. one will be 5 the other 7... I’m doing my best to learn, research, taken notes, plan and test things out little by little. I will be carting most of the load in order to keep them going.. so I’m even working on high calorie, low weight boys approved snacks and meals to make at home and send... figuring out logistics on that seems quite daunting. I appreciate all your help! Thank you!
🤣 “Ben and I almost got a divorce over this video...!” Wow! I wish I could be as civil as you guys when I’m about to divorce my hubby!! You couldn’t tell! Thanks for pushing thru and showing us your gear! You guys are amazing!!! Loving these videos! You guys are really spoiling us with updates while you’re on the adventure of a lifetime!!! I was anticipating a “recap” video after 6 months...these have got to be taking LOADS of time and thought!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼👊🏼 #crawfordsforthewin
May God continue to shower THE FAMILY with His Love ❤️ Grace. For you to have these beautiful children go through such an amazing/awesome experience in their young years, I can't even find a way to express how I feel. You are amazing, loving parents. (Don't let the trolls bother you. They need to get a life).
I came back to this video today to check out what pack you put Rainier in so that I can try to hike with my 2 year old. Thanks for showing us your gear.
Loved this video guys! I want to do some overnight trips with my kids but the thought of having to carry everything myself is pretty daunting. I appreciate seeing what another family is doing since there’s not many out there, it seems.
You can cut down on your filter system with a $2 coupler that sawyer sells. I attach 2 smart water bottles. I can either squeeze them or let them work as a gravity filter. I have the larger squeeze. I'm not sure if it works with the smaller one.
Thanks for the gear vids... You didn't sound thrilled while telling us what you carry, so I am thankful that you deemed it worthy of the sacrifice, lol. I was wondering how you divvied up your equipment and the kids' sleeping arrangements. I can't wait for the one on your vlogging equipment because I am nosey like that :-) Hike on!
Guys!!! Love love love the overhead shot of you all and all your gear! Doves new backpack is one that I have been researching - glad you guys like that brand and showed it to us. Have a great week and keep on going - woohoo ☕☕
WOW your an amazing family! GO CRAWFORD FAMILY I LOVE your whole family( 👨👱♂️👱♀️👩🤴👧🙎♀️👱♂️) thanks for sharing with us how you parked for the A.T. trip. Your in my prayers daily. Stay strong and together.
Wow, so much to organize and you did such a great job! Really appreciate the obviously hard work you put into all your gear and letting us know what you all have! You all are amazing! Blessings to you!
Your Faith in God to inculcate to your kids to trust them rings so clear. all of our kids respond to us when in college and beyond that their colleagues do not have the Freedom They have.
Lots of neat stuff. Kami, how are you feeling using the thinner sleeping pad? (You we’re looking at the thicker one for a good nights rest originally.) I don’t travel light. I suppose that might change if I was carrying it all on my back daily😬 Love the shot of everyone/thing together at the end!
Love your family and your commitment to making content while hiking! I enjoy watching every one of your videos! Keep hiking! And drink water the way you want to! :)
May I ask a question not really related. I'm in my sixties and my wife and I have been getting into backpacking and are starting to plan an Appalachian Trail hike. I have some things I'm worried about and can't seem to find the answers. I'm a disabled veteran and having to climb down clifts and hike a narrow path looking over a long drop off blows my PTSD out of site plus my injury really might not give me the mobility I need. When you get to the white mountains and southern Maine and some of those places, is there alternative paths that might be the long way around but doesn't give me the possibility of plummeting into Oblivion. Any help anyone can give and where in the future I can find these things out would be greatly appreciated. You guys are a wonderful family and your videos are great and helpful.
Sorry if I missed this but what did you guys do about bug repellent? Is it necessary? And what about bear proofing food? I know canisters aren't necessary but what did you guys do?
Indigo Mosko We didn’t really use bug repellent. Only some essential oils. You definitely encounter bugs in places. But we just chose to get bit and to wear preventative clothing. We never bear proofed anything. -Kami
I was wondering, a few times you have gone the wrong way on the trail or were hoping the kids went the right way on the trail, why don’t you guys have walkie talkies to be able to keep in contact?
Whats with all this cigar talk??? It was in another video too. Hike the AT, runs marathons, and crave cigars? I equate cigars with fat, money grubbing, Boss Hogs. Lol
Trust me. FINANCES are the LEAST of your concerns. Must be nice. You can thank our overlords for that. Apparently they FAVOR you. Imagine whats its like being an average Joe/Non jew; imagine the challenge you would have if you were on a SHAT budget?? TRUTH hurts doesnt it? (IF you cared that is).

Robin Brown thanks man

OMG 23:47. That kid was so me as a child. lol!
Filia's (The seven year old) pack weighed in at only 14 lbs. when it was weighed a few videos ago. Go, Crawfords!!!
with all the extras you keep for rainer and the cold weather gear for him and the rest of the kids I can see where someone would call social services ( Sarcastic font missing ) you are very well prepared and taking good care of yourself and the kids. Keep up the hike

And spend ridiculous amounts of money....
There is always some ultralight mansplainer on every gear video

Kids rarely have to stop your life. I bring my kids everywhere and they're troopers, maybe because I always bring them everywhere.
Glad it helped.-Ben
Did you end up going?
Any chance of potty training on the trail? Cami, I admire your strength in carrying a 30-something lb pack. You are such a strong woman... in so many ways! You guys are looking fit and thin- time to calorie up. Speaking of which....will there be a trail meal video? Hike on, Crawford’s!!
No chance of potty training. -Ben
24:00 look at the very right of the screen
Had me laughing every time I watched it
So funny!

The gear prep and logistics of a solo thru hike are challenging enough. This is really impressive doing a family of 8 people. Great job!

Rainier would totally walk all the way if given the chance! :)~

We're planning for a family thru hike in 2023 and this helped us quite a bit! Thank you :)
You guys are my inspiration. I am planning to go 2021 with my 19mo and my 8yo
Did you make it to the AT?

Kami’s “we almost got a divorce over this video, so you’re welcome” line ! Lol 👊

I'm with you on the water filtration issue. I may have filtered 3 times when I came to creeks. Mostly I got my water right from the mountain side.
Where are you at? Been thinking about you.-Ben

P.s. Thanks for the video Kami😉
loved it glad to hear about 45* bags making it 😊 Really appreciated it💜
The ending 🤣🤣
What kind of camera are you shooting the videos with? And where did you get those blue bags you keep the clothes in?
Shit that baby's got a lot of swag with all that patagucci :D
is that your grandfather tattooed on your right tricep?
2 old one will not remember that why you just dont waiting till she was about 5-6 years?
TO each his own, Hike your own hike....

Hiker Beard ?
For now. -Ben
23:52 naked girl walking 😂
I was wondering, a few times you have gone the wrong way on the trail or were hoping the kids went the right way on the trail, why don’t you guys have walkie talkies to be able to keep in contact?
Not too sure why you would tell anyone that you carry a substantial amount of cash with you on the trail :(
Whats with all this cigar talk??? It was in another video too. Hike the AT, runs marathons, and crave cigars? I equate cigars with fat, money grubbing, Boss Hogs. Lol
To folks thinking about hiking and doing RUclips videos, please never announce your finances in your videos.
The Addicted Prepper I was thinking the same thing.
why?
why does he talk like a teenager always carrying it last vowels? add base or nuts haven't dropped yet?
I know it's not pleasant, but please pack out used toilet paper rather than burying and leaving for an animal to unbury.
