I'd consider WWII Online as one of the best World War II milsim shooters of all time, when you compare to it's capabilities from release, and even up to today. not to mention an extremely passionate playerbase, and an extremely passionate development team, that truly cares about its players and their experiences. @WWII Online I read your plan to implement UE5; I saw the recent videos... Why wouldn't you guys bring in the UE5 tiger instead of the opel to bring back players...? Or at least buildings or maybe terrain and roads would be best to implement first to entice players back into wwiionline? Then you would have more sign ups... ie. Revenue. OR is that not technically (development wise) the most effective way towards implementing RE5 on wwiionline?
And are you guys still off of Hulen?

@@taccntb4345 We have a specific plan to get to UE5. Eventually all models will be touched or upgraded. So, why the Opel (trucks) and not the Tiger initially? Simply, the older models (like the Opel and trucks) are low poly models. The Tiger for example, is a more modern model that has been altered to work in the older game engine.

Absolutely love the commitment! Here's hoping you guys succeed in delivering the UE5 vision, it would be insane and and a game changer. One point of order however, there are not "thousands" of concurrent players playing this game. Not even close. There are not even a "thousand" players playing. Far from it. Peak hours, you will be lucky to find 100 total players playing this game. When they initially launched in steam, there was maybe 500 concurrent players, and the server crashed over and over again. So ... my point is, let's not lie about state of the game.

    • @worldwar2online
      @worldwar2online  Год назад +2

Our server is "capable" of holding thousands of concurrent users, that is a fact. We've upgraded our game server since Steam's release to have 8x the hardware power, 10x the bandwidth, and relocated it to eastern United States to provide the best connectivity we've ever had between North America & Europe. Jamming everyone into a single battle will have pretty bad consequences though, so it's important to spread them out some when player pop gets high.

That's why I suggested that the dev team sell 'WWII Online: Chokepoint' as a typical game, Patio, giving them 2 different types of business models to use in order to finance their game in the future. Subscribers to 'WWII Online' get the game for free and every player also gets the opportunity to buy cosmetic DLC that's authentic to the World War 2 era, such as the camouflage uniforms of the British Paratroopers and the Waffen SS, battle-worn uniform skins, battle-worn weapons skins too. The type of veteran cosmetics that we all love to use in games such as this.

A remake is not enough. I think. The game and the 46min just flying over dead inactive pixel. Is not fun.
Nothing ww2 online does is impressive today, aside from the large scale, which open world games have gone away from IF they cant populate it with cool stuff.
Meaning no hostiles in a PVP is similar. Only the front matters, the rest could just as well be server hubs you were never on. Or similar to Planetside 2.
Today we have more than 64kb modems.
We have games like Wow, Planetside 2, Foxhole, Postscriptum, Hell Let loos etc etc. ww2 online is a relic of the past. Not saying it cant be decent, but just remaking the old one would be as daf as just remaking Planetside 1 with better graphics.

Briefly, our goal is to transition the game to 2.0. Given the size of our team, directing dev resources to our old 1.0 game tech is not appropriate to what our community has asked us do which is transition the game to 2.0 in UE5. Our driving premise is to provide a strong game that allows for massive combined arms battles (which we already do) but within an environment that is not only more historically accurate but with greater asset and environmental fidelity. The only reason we are still standing here is due to our very passionate and dedicated player base.

I had fun playing this some years back, and even rose into the command staff for the German side. The thing that made me quit playing and never ant to come back was the toxicity in the leadership ranks, and the fact that the game is absolutely dominated by clans. If a big clan plays Germans, Germans win. If the clan switches to Allies next campaign, Allies win. It's no fun playing when you can 100% accurately predict who will win based on what side the most popular clans are going to be on and you command team acts like a bunch of 30 year old children.
Someone who plays WW2OL now, please tell me if it's still like this now.

    • @tex64

@Firelock In an online game there will always be ass-hattery whether in a leadership position, gaming squad, or the lone wolf. Each game has it's challenges but I can share with you that as the Community Manager, we meet with the Command Staff's from both sides and work through the various issues that the player base reports. We continue, as always, to be a work in progress. In regards to squads/battles, etc --- our continued focus is helping our squads regenerate along with massive combined arms combat. Currently in development is the implementation of proximity attack objectives so while the HC continues to provide the logistical support of brigade supply at strategic times, the overall player population would determine their own target of opportunity. Hopefully the player will consult the HC officers to provide some wisdom in regards to the objective as town sequencing, supply links, etc are key to advancing and holding towns once captured. I hope that helps. You should join us next weekend on 19th of March for OPERATION FLASH. All equipment is UNLOCKED so you have the opportunity to experiment with all the equipment.

Unreal 5 is a great engine but it is not a mmofps engine. Games using UE5 struggle to support a hundred players at a time huge without performance going completely to crap and I don't see how you can scale that up to support thousands of players at a time. Especially with such a small team with limited financial backing. I hope you prove me wrong but i just don't see how you will.

Love the idea of commanding a platoon into battle. Been working on this idea for like 7 years now, for a dynamic platoon based tactical fps.

Okay, first off, I don't want to come off crass or anything so I hope what I ask won't be taken the wrong way.
You spoke about premium riflemen being on the same performance level as free to play riflemen, but is that also the case for the 2.0? I really appreciate what you're doing here, I truly am, but what I'm concerned about is that it might devolve into something like Enlisted did or what Battlefield is like today.. I REALLY enjoy and prefer large scale maps and campaigns with lot's of people playing at the same time, but all these battle passes and premium subscriptions or squads/units that obliterate anyone who isn't willing or can't give money away every month make me lose hope in the integrity of developers, who at the end of the day seem to be chasing that paper, thinking that we, the consumer, will buy anything that they throw our way.
I feel the need to reiterate that this isn't to lash out on you guys, I don't even know you and I don't want to give you the impression that I think you're one of those developers, it's just that I felt the need to voice my concern as I've had my hopes and hypes about games I've looked forward to squashed before and I've grown to become a bit of a sceptic, when people try to sell me off on something.
I bid you all all the successes you need to make this the best MMOFPS and have a nice one!
Thank you for the time to read through this.

I notice the mention of infantry play from chokepoint, but is there ANY crossover from the terrain(yes I know it can't be that good on a huge scale), do you have ay examples of what level of terrain resolution can be achieved on UE5 without impacting the core elements of the game?
Anyway, good luck! I can't wait to experience a new ww11ol with 1000s of players once more. S!

I'm very happy to hear this! WWII Online has been one of my favorite childhood games. Haven't played it for quite a while, but I'm very glad that the dev team is still working on this masterpiece! Cannot wait to once more spend tons of hours playing a quality game made by passionate developers.

AAAH Nostalgia! I remember me and my friend plowing through a hedgerow and only to see a three tank column of churchhills directing in front of us maybe 80 meters at most.
We were totally caught off guard and so were they, everyone stopped and started attempting rotate their turrets, but we had them dead to their right side, One, Two, Three, knocked all three of them out as fast as we could reload. The last ones turret was only 4 maybe 5 degrees off our right turret cheek. maybe a second or two more and it may have been curtains for us.
Or the time we flew with a C47 filled to capacity with sappers and landed outside a city in germany, with careful progress they slipped, sapped the factories and we left... I was pilot and barely cleared a treeline on takeoff. Only to then be intercepted about half way in flight back. we were close to a frontline battle so i redirected our course from the airfield to the battle and the men promptly dropped into the battle near the outskirts while i dragged the 109 away. I barely made it back with heavy damage only because the 109 ran out of ammo i can only assume.
Then there was the time me and my friends set up some 88s at LONG distance and tried to shell the enemy town with artillery fire.
Or the time we set up 88s on the top of a sheer cliff overlooking a town and pounded every building to rubble while coordinating fire at the request of infantry in the city.
Or the time we held the last bunker in town for 2 hours until relief came.
Or the time we sailed for what seemed like forever to land several ships at England to offload tanks.
So many experiences! I want this update so bad! I WANT IT SOOOOO BAD!

Ya'll should 100% snag all of the former Post Scriptum developers if you can. That game got WW2 right and the gameplay was incredible. It just had no real funding behind it. If you can do what they did on this scale, it would be a hit guaranteed

I bought this game from game stop day 1 and played for up to Rapid Assault was in beta. I always wondered how no one else has attempted this sort of scale since. I'd love for you all to get it moved to UE5. I don't have any desire to load up the old client though. 70 max players and 21 when I just checked... sad to see it's basically dead. I remember hundreds of players, tank columns, massive dog fights. Sad that those days are numbered.

i remember when this came out and i can say that on it's launch no one could play this and i would not even call it a game at the time because of the state it was in at Launch!!!90% of what was supposed to be in it was not there and before anyone could try to play had to Download a 80MB Patch which took 24 hours to Download!!!The fps for planes was 4 to 6FMP if you could get the game to load and then log in and on foot was 5 to 6 FPS no joke!!!

i have some questions about how the game works. Is there logistics in the game, if yes how does it work? Is it similar to that of foxhole where every weapon is made by the player, or do you choose your load out before spawning. Also, not having a premium account block you from any weapons/veichles? One last thing, any updates on how the development is going?

so if you cant provide a 1 to 1 in flight sim with controller for all.. then your game is a no go period... if you have a 1 to 1 input output that creates an evenplaying field for all.. then great if not.. then what you have is garbage so please feel free to comment

I was a beta player from day one then played for 10 years (Rodamus). The transition of WWII online from a near full scale European map and campaigns that took months to play out into something much smaller is why I left. I truly miss what you guys used to offer it was a unique an authentic experience that this old crusty retired 19K Master Gunner enjoyed. No one has every pulled that off well but the Cornered Rats. I miss you all and I hope whatever you guys do comes out well. I'm just pointing at the giant hole in the corner of the WWII gaming world that has never been filled by anyone but the Rats. Me and my KGW buddies miss you guys we are still out here older more arthritic but still gaming...
