    Would be nice if this went more in-depth. Like how do you take care of the tapers and tools to prevent rust as shown in the video, is it necessary to use pull stud grease or other greases or lubricants, which surfaces should have special grease or protection like the spindle body, etc etc. Basically, how to keep everything looking new!

    Do you recommend leaving the work probe in the carousel when not in use while jobs run in the machine? I see Operators leaving it inside while jobs with 20+ tools and 20 minute cycle times. That's alot of moving for a precision tool to be left in the carousel. Please respond.
    Thanks!

    How do you get to keep the door open on a side mount tool changer so that you can see in to clean

    • @kiyosenl.3889
      @kiyosenl.3889 Год назад

      Might be a bit late but go to MDI, type in whatever tool you want to check, type "t(tool number) then press ATC forward or backwards doesn't matter, then after it drops the current tool out of the spindle and into the tool changer immediately press feed hold as its spinning over, just rapidly press it to make sure if it makes you feel better, it will finish spinning then stop in place with the door open, thats how i do it at least, im sure theres a proper procedure but this works fine, takes a few seconds and you're done

    How do you get the tool umbrella to open like that?

    • @UncleBman
      @UncleBman 3 года назад +5

      Manually unload all tools.
      • Set rapid to 5%
      • Tool forward/reverse - umbrella moves in - spindle rises
      • Press feed hold just before or right at carousel index to stop spindle at up position
      • Press E-Stop
      You may have to practice a bit to get the timing right. I did! Use coolant hose and then air to flush out all chips and get mostly dry. You can be quite aggressive and flush well.
      Clear E-Stop and index carousel 180 degrees with appropriate tool # and repeat.

      I usually do not run my machine daily and at least do this end of day with air. I power down leaving the umbrella in this forward open position to allow air circulation.
      Before starting up I use a flashlight and inspect cam for chips and add just a touch of Lucas Red "N" Tacky grease on a small brush if needed, you do not need much. Check action of the doors.
      I am a bit obsessive, when removing tools, I run spindle at low speed, 500 rpm while blasting with air. I pop out the tool into a clean rag, blow air up into the collet to get out any coolant. Next, I inspect the overall condition, light spray with CRC and wipe clean, set in rack in sequence.
      Be safe - Use E-Stop!

    Why do you want to remove the tool holder before the machine sits down for a while?

    • @UncleBman
      @UncleBman 3 года назад +2

      There is a spring stack that holds the tool. Good practice to leave unloaded to extend its life.

    • @Stern-warning
      @Stern-warning 3 года назад

      If you run at high rpm the spindle can get warm and the tool will pull up tight in the spindle taper and then when you turn the machine on cold it is jammed up in there and if you have tool on power up turned on it jams the carousel because the tool won’t come out. If you’re fond of having a machine running at night unattended with power off at M30 put a tool change to a empty pocket at the end of your program and if you don’t have a empty pocket pick a light inexpensive tool in case it jams and turn on the idle timer so it will just shut off if there’s a problem. If you leave a tool in all the time it’s best to pop the tool out before power up restart and wipe it clean.

    can't believe a manufacturer advises using air on the way covers. Use a coolant hose. An air gun always blows shit onto the enclosure wall. Use a coolant hose on that rather, too. The only place you might use air is on the vice jaws.

      WD-40 was invented to repel water it was never intended to be lubricant. Usually I use cutting oil as it’s always available in the shops. On old manuals under maintenance said to even grease drawbar bearings once a month ( put grease on one tools pull stud and insert in spindle, in/out a few times, clean off execs greased pull-stud).

      @@speez3354 Bruh, cutting oil in the spindle? thats the opposite of a light oil,
      its very sticky and viscous and i think i will make it worse.
      Using ISO 30 or below should work fine thats what i used on my old vf4, rarely had sticking tools, tools sticking is normal after heavy cutting, any lithium based grease on the pull-stud of the holder before you put it in, not too much or you will get grease on the taper and the holder will stick even more.

      My hole procedure is grease up inside of the drawbar by putting a thick layer on pull stud insert it in spindle a few times. Then with a old rag clean off exes of spindle taper. Then what I meant light oil and a light coat! The best oil I found was “air tool oil” but harder to find in a shop, put some on a scotch pad and run it in the spindle. And don’t leave tools in spindle overnight!! They will thermally lock up and damage tool changer in the morning.

      Good observation Gus! It is best to blow off chips anywhere inside the machine with a tool installed in the spindle. If you do happen to use the air gun inside the machine without a tool in the spindle then check that you haven't accidently blown chips up into the taper or drawbar areas. Thanks!
