Everybody loves a good Hotdogger demonstration! I can usually draw a crowd when I do this lab at school

Back in the early 1960s, my tinkerer uncle made a homemade version of this. As I recall, the hot dogs tasted pretty good - better than my Mom's boiled hot dogs.

My family had a Hot Dogger when I was a kid.... They made sparks then too. That was half of the appeal to an 8 year old me.

The best way to cook a hotdog

This seems to be a lot safer than the "homemade" version I made as a kid, using a couple big nails and an old electrical cord...if you overcook the hotdog, it will (as I found out) burst in the middle and will no longer conduct the current and, as I ALSO found out...if you try to push the two broken ends together...without first unplugging the device...YOU become part of the circuit, ha ha.

Fun video. Glad to see adult supervision. You got gypped -- most models had six prongs. Our family had an earlier version from the mid 1960s -- six prongs, closing hinged lid completed the circuit. Older model could NOT be immersed. Thanks for the chicken demonstration. Will two or three hotdogs cook quicker than five? I always wanted to try cooking a hotdog, or sausage with booster cables. It would probably take longer at only 12 volts, but it's the amps that count. I;m glad you have inquisitive kids.

Awe man, 6 prongs would be so much better! Not sure about cooking times, I stopped using it cause it started making some weird electrical noises, lol.

@@DiffFamilyReviews Sorry to hear that. It's pretty simple in both mechanical and electrical terms. A noise sound like some kind of internal arcing. If you have a soldering iron, and the contacts in question are visible. That said, for vintage cookware of limited value, you shouldn't risk the safety of your family or home. Ditch it, an move on. I'm a big fan of cast iron. It's almost as good as teflon, nearly indestructible, and bullet-proof for smaller calibers. Good luck.

@@DiffFamilyReviews I just had an idea. If you have an old-timey Lionel train set, try using the transformer/rectifier or the electrical input. You can gradually increase the voltage. Keep the kids away while testing.

I like boiling my hot dogs, they absorb water and grow 300% of its original size. The ends split open and theyre really moist and juicy. Great on a hotdog bun with mustard, ketchup and relish.

TNGam3rz boiling is probably safer than electrocution.

We had one long ago. I remember the smell. I was about 10. I never liked the dogs. Look closely at the dogs being eaten see the black holes from the probes. My dad always made bbq burgers on a stacking tube grill that ran on newspaper balls the kids produced. It didn’t take many the burning fat provided ample fuel. Now those I liked. Maybe see if EBay had one laying around. May have to order some newspapers too. I haven’t seen many of those lately either. I was number 8 of 9 kids.
