  • Flushing the Radiator fluid from a 2006 BMW X5 E53. The previous owner used GM coolant in this BMW and it was overheating and giving codes. I used 4L distilled water bottles and flushed it 4 times to ensure the entire system got clear of the old GM Coolant.
    The codes ended up disappearing after a reset & the engine temperature stayed at optimal running condition.

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, you can turn on the engine for 5-10 minutes depending on how cool the weather is. I run the vehicle with the drain plug plugged in. I repeat the process for each flush.
      Step 1: Pour Radiator cleaner into radiator
      Step 2: Run vehicle for 5-10 minutes
      Step 3: Open radiator drain plug
      Step 4: Open top breather valve, on radiator expansion tank (to allow it drain quickly)
      Step 5: Let the fluid flush out
      Step 6: Close the top breather valve, and reinstall the drain plug
      Step 7: Fill it up completely with distilled water
      Step 8: Turn vehicle on again, with the Heat On MAX setting for 5 minutes so the radiator can circulate the distilled water.
      I repeat the steps from Step 3 to Step 8, until it all looks clean.
      I hope this helps you out with your vehicle, Take Care & Thanks for Watching!

    Nice video - thank you for that. Could you please tell me why you haven't flushed coolant from the engine as well? if my calculation is correct, after the final flush, you still had distilled water in the engine which is about 50% of volume of the entire cooling system, so topping up with coolant which in your case is manufacturer ready mixed 1:1 with water, will result that you mixed 50% of water from engine and 50% of the coolant you added, so bottom line is you have 25% of actual Ethylene glycol and 75% of water in your system. Please correct me if I'm missing something?

    How can you call it a flush if you did not even start the car? There is more coolan in the engine that it is in the radiator. If you just flush the raddiator maybe you get half of the fluid out, at most. What a waste of time..

      He said he ran the car for like 5mins between each flush?

  • @johnespisito6079
    @johnespisito6079 11 месяцев назад

    😮😮😮Next time let it just run for 30 seconds so the blocks green coolant moves to the radiator and the clear water moves. To the block..... letting it run more 5 minutes allows it to mix Wich is what u want to avoid...you just want the clear water to push the green out the block to the radiator n the shut car n drain ...

    Do i need to drain the coolant from the engine block aswell? Or just on the radiator only?

    • @jassalfarm3743
      @jassalfarm3743  3 года назад

      The radatior should be fine. Unless you're trying to get it 100% flushed I would recommend taking it to a mechanic with a professional flushing machine or buy a cheap one that connects to the radiator cap to create pressure.

    • @popitn2nd
      @popitn2nd 3 года назад +1

      JASSAL FARM i did the way you did. Just by draining the coolant out of the radiator. And starting the car for 5 mins. I assume by doing this it will clean and replace the old coolant out from the block . But the only concern i have was when i was putting new coolant in. I use the bmw coolant. Which requires 50 mixture of water. So one gallon of coolant with 50% mix water equals to 2 gallon. So 2 gallon that i have to put in to the radiator. But unfortunately i was only able to put in 1.25 gallon. Not sure what happen here.

    • @tissuepaper9962
      @tissuepaper9962 3 года назад +1

      @@popitn2nd to be sure you get the correct mixture in the entire cooling system you would have to do one round of flushing with the actual new coolant which is just wasteful. This is why you would want to use a flushing machine to do a perfect job. If you're looking for "good enough" (which, in general, is my goal) this method will be fine, and a little inaccuracy in the mixture is OK.
      My suggestion if you don't want to pay a mechanic is to do each flush on level ground (or even pointed down a slight slope) so that you're making sure the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator is the absolute lowest point in the system. That should make it easier to drain everything out in fewer flushes, and get more out in each flush so that you can mix the coolant accurately.

    Not happy about the method. Followed it and damaged the car. Very expensive. This video should be banned. Im sure this has electric water pump, mine had electric water pump. You have to make sure you bleed the way electric water pump should be bled
