Found this on Beemerpost forum: "The N46 has a mechanical coolant pump driven by the belt, so the bleeding procedure is different. Basically you fill it up with the bleeding screws open, then close the screws but leave the cap off. Start the engine and wait until you see coolant coming out of the small hose at the top of the reservoir, then close the cap. Leave the engine idle for a while, wait for it to cool down, and top off." Tried it and seemed to do the trick.

Easy - if you can do repairs yourself easily, you’re less likely to require the dealership. The manufacturers know this. Hence why nothing is easy. For example, to change a friggin headlamp in my wife’s Buick you have to remove the underbody and squeeze your arm arm in where you can’t see and change it from underneath the front wheel well 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😠😡

Thanks for such a simple and easy video to follow. So once I have replaced the coolant tank, I need to fill up the coolant tank with coolant right to the top (to where the max is in the coolant reservoir) and then run the bleeding procedure to remove all the air pockets in the pipes, is that correct? When do you put the battery charger on? (do you put it on your positive and negative battery points right at the start as your doing the procedure? and is it pretty obvious when it's finished? (i.e. does the water pump stop going)

What a great vid. Thank you. Dumb question incoming... You mentioned coolant should be 50/50 diluted (or according to directions for your area) - would it be acceptable to premix and then top up/bleed or do you just keep adding concentrate if you are doing a fresh bleed? The level is low and no work has been done, so just want to top it up to level

    Hello I have bmw e90 2007
I replaced the thermostat and water pump, flushed the coolant and added new one. This BMW model has no electric water pump, right as it doesn't activate by turning on the heater and pressing the accelerator for 10 seconds So I tried opening the bleed screw and add coolant. I patiently waited to make the fluid stable and no bubbles visible. (Not sure if I did the right thing though). I closed the reservoir cap and started the engine. Temperature starting to increase. It reached 105degree celsius and slowly reach 108degree celcius. After 5mins it was at 110degree celcius so I turned it off. Is the temperature normal? If not what should I do? What is the maximum temperature for me to turn it off? Thanks

HELP - MY QUESTION IS - My last step is running the electric water pump and removing coolant so it is not overfilled correct?
I have been making my last step adding coolant with the bleeder screw out and making sure there are no air bubbles, then removing a little coolant so it isnt overfilled.
Also, I've seen mixed steps for bleeding the system with the electric water pump and either having the bleeder screw cracked, or completely off for the first few minutes. How does it remove all the air in a closed system when both caps are entirely sealed? Is that why the level drops so much because it pute the air on top in the expansion tank? I'm trying to find the logic behind which makes more sense and just want to make sure ive bled my system properly.
Also I've seen some ppl say to run the electric water pump with the expansion tank cap off
So far I have done what you did 3-4 times the other night because after the first complete process there were still air bubbles when i added coolant to the expansion tank with the bleeder screw out there were still air bubbles. But after 3-4 full cycles of adding coolant with the bleeder screw out, each time there were fewer and fewer bubbles. By about the 4th time there were no air bubbles.
I finished with topping off the coolant with the bleeder screw out and making sure there were no air bubbles. On my last time doing this (~5 Times) there weren't any air bubbles
I drove the car a bit and retested it after it sat overnight there were maybe 2-3 air bubbles when I added coolant again with the bleeder screw out so i ran the electric pump and added coolant two more times until I was back to no bubbles when i added coolant with the bleeder screw out.

awesome videos dude. bought on 06 with new rad, rad was faulty. installed new rad but dont think it was bleed properly by the garage. when i phoned and told them it almost over heated after 24 kilometers they said it probably had an air leak. what kind of garage installs a radiator without properly bleeding the thing? im waiting for the engine to cool down a bit before I try this solution.
can i try the key on and gas pedal down with heater on before filling the tank as a way to diagnose?
