You are attributing human characteristics, happy, pride, puffed up, to horses - These horses have been trained to do this by men - I doubt if it would be their first choice for an afternoon's activity -
Humans delude themselves into thinking animals do what we train them to do because they want to do it - If force and abuse is used to get them to this place then that is animal cruelty - If understanding and sensitivity for the animal is used the animal is in good hands - The problem is we can not tell which scenario is in play because the horse will act the same under both sets of conditions -

@@carolirvine3095 No, no they will not. These horses are EAGER to pull. Anyone that knows horses can see how eager they are, and definitely happy. It's in every movement they make! You can MAKE a horse pull, but you can't make them eager and excited to do it...

I own a team of Belgians, although they're not as big as this team they truly enjoy to work. Having raised and trained them from they were 1yr old. They are now 8. Nothing they like doing more than showing off, they'll go from head down walking along to heads up, chests puffed out as soon as they get to the ring or when they near another team. This team is hot, anxious to pull. Their style as well as many others is to hit/react as soon as they hear the clank of the whiffles and tree on the stone boat. Getting the load started is the hard part, but once it's moving not as much energy is needed. Well done, keep them doing what they love doing.

@@charlottebonnie5320 They're not PULLING at that age, at least not heavy loads. There's a lot of other stuff to learn first, like wearing a bridle, not freaking out at the equipment, trailering, walking in tandem, and a TON of other things. You can't use them for extreme pulling like this until they're grown or it WILL hurt them.

    • @MonumentToSin

@@charlottebonnie5320 You can do a lot of training with foals to better prepare them for their jobs when they are older. Simple ground manners, desensitization, etc. In fact, it's better to train them when they are still small and won't hurt anyone if they freak out.

Pete Flynn Truly awe-inspiring animals. Your comment made me think of this: "Are you the one who gives the horse its strength? Do you clothe its neck with a rustling mane? Can you cause it to leap like a locust? Its majestic snorting is terrifying. It paws the ground in the valley and exults mightily; It charges into the battle. It laughs at fear and is afraid of nothing. It does not turn back because of the sword. The quiver rattles against it, The spear and the javelin flash. Trembling with excitement, it surges forward, It cannot stand still at the sound of the horn."- Job 39:19-25

I know bunch of horses that like working. They come fast to the spot when they see the equipment, with "Let's go!" attitude. All pumped up. "Force and abuse" is what people with bad horsemanship skills use, not everyone. I can see from your text that you're quite aggressive and "attacking" personality, so working with horse in that mindset, for example, could make horse anxious as well. But some people are calm, and can read horse body signals. These horses in the video are SUPER excited!

If you don't work drafts they get sick. AR needs to know they are power lifters and they were selected for this work to such an extent that because their ancestors were working 6 days a week pulling various things, once modern society retired them, they suffered and sometimes died. They need exercise of this type or they get sick. If you care about how to avoid them suffering know they don't work themselves enough by being in a pasture. They are far from wild type.

One of my friends told me that his horse suffered from a rupture of its milt after it had tried to pull off a caravan (=trailer coach).

Primarily it is due to the fact the horses are so anxious to pull. Each one of those horses is going to weigh in at around 2200 pounds or so, and when they get backed up to the bricks, they don't know if they are attached or not. If you watch on all of the videos, as soon as they are hooked up they are pulling. So most of the time when they get backed up and think they are attached, they want to pull, or do their job. Beyond that, trying to stop that much power isn't something to easy.

I can attest to that. I had a 3/4 QH, 1/4 Belgian and getting him to NOT take the bit and GO was the hardest part of training him... and I didn't even use him in harness! He was just so eager to do his work, no matter what the job was.

I feel the same way with them always wanting to pull because on my horse whenever I’m going down the field getting ready to gallop I literally have to hold back on the reins with all my night because he does this slow trot the adrenaline is real with him I feel like those race horses that can’t keep the energy contained

The idiots that get on here and cry ThAt'S AbUsE! Dude! I have never been this eager to do something IN MY LIFE. They are quite literally bred to pull. They love it! You try forcing a 1-ton animal to do what you want. It can be done, but not with this much excitement!!!

@@charlottebonnie5320 Yes there have been machines for this work but who did the heavy work before machines? Horses did that. We’re seeing how amazing they still are and still able to pull enormous loads. This is showing us how incredible these horses are. How they were the real wonders, not machines.

These are beautiful and magnificent horses, they don't necessarily love doing this, they are doing what they're trained to do... the consequences for not working may be cruel... Just like circus or rodeo animals

In the metric world these horses are pulling about 9 ton. about 4.5 ton each. I did not realise the draft horses where that strong. I bet a 4x4 pick up couldn't pull a stone block weighing 4.5 ton

Kinda' funny. I was mostly into quarter horse types for decades before getting into drafts. Thought a 17-2, 2000# horse was a monster... Now that seems almost small to us. And the QHs are like ponies.
