I don't even use Rails or Ruby but damn do I admire this man and views on all things web-dev related.

Similar here. Also now DHH appears to have reached a stage of an ascended wise philosopher (no sarcasm), after a phase of foul-mouthed arrogance "brand" ;). Wdyt?

@@karolrvn For me, I think it is how he keeps his head down and keep on doing what he is doing and not give a fuck about what the new guys are doing

This is, without doubt, the most reflected and "holistic" talk (or "reading" as DHH puts it) that I've listened to for a long, long time. I'm not only referring to the software industry related aspects of his talk, but the whole talk. It's a valuable wake-up call for any person living in today's world. Absolutely brilliant!

This is simply one on the most amazing talks I have ever had the pleasure to watch. Thanks, David!

I think this here at 37:09 just made me want to learn the language. " Make Ruby natural, not simple, in a way that mirrors life". Everything that I've done, has happened to me points me in this direction, of being in harmony with nature and the natural. Relationships, work, health everything, I'm putting everything through this filter.

Yes! Ruby is the happiest language in existence!! And rails completely embodies that happiness!

I am full stack developer and specific to ruby on rails, just started viewing this RailsCon and I am impressed from DHH, I was also hearing him today from old podcast of Bikeshed episode 15, what a man, he is really great person.

The GPL only applies if the user has the software running on their own computer. So the GPL would let Shopify and Twitter keep it closed-source. GPL mainly protects the user's right to control software on their own computer.
The AGPL asks the code stay open-source on the server, however it allows linking with the GPL, which is a get-out-of-it-free card.

Love the talk, but the way I understand it, Stallman isn't walking around with a scowl trying to prevent companies for using the software he (we) created without giving back, Stallman is trying to protect us from companies extending the software for nefarious purposes, and trapping us in a world where we have no control over the software that controls our lives. That's a significant difference that gives some better credence to Stallman than the idea he's doing it for some petty justice.

Very cool. I'm trying to get involved in Rails, but even 1 year in, I find it exceptionally complex. This motivates me to try to help make the onramp process a bit easier.

Good take on dropbox, they started fine but are bound to fail because of their mysterious feeling of no being apt. They did it back then, now they are ruining everything overcomplicating on the back of a successful program. Unfortunately, we parted ways recently.
