Hi Wendy. I don’t remember having a town backpack in this video but I have previously taken an Osprey Ultralight Stuff Pack which is available from Amazon. 😊. I hope this is the item you mean. amzn.to/3UeZUqC
Blimey thats light weight. I'm looking at what I wanna take next April/May and wondering why I'm around the 7 kilo mark! lol Thanks for all your packing vids mate, and for putting the amazon links with them. Cheers!
You’re very very welcome 😊. I got a lot from the Camino (and still so many Caminos later) so love trying to give back by helping. Hope you have an awesome Camino next year 😊
Hi Nick, is that the Atom+ backpack (I noticed the hip belt so am assuming it's not an Atom). What size is it in litres? What would you recommend is the best size for the Camino with similar gear weights and volume to what you show in your video? I'm looking at getting one custom made. What material is yours made of and any thoughts/suggestions regarding that? Many thanks for your help!
Hi Joanne. Yes, it’s the Atom+. Mine is the 50 as I take a drone and video making stuff (and also use it for wild camping outside of Camino). You could easily get away with a 40 for Camino though if taking similar to what I do. All of the materials they offer are fantastic, durable and highly water resistant , so it’s almost more about what colours you like as all colours are not available in all fabrics. It’s worth ordering a few Nylofume liners at the same time (very cheap) which means you don’t need any sort of pack cover for the rain. The strap pockets are especially useful and hold a 500ml smart water bottle perfectly. The hidden bottom pocket is also great for things you may need while walking that doesn’t fit into a fanny pack /bum bag. They kindly made me a fanny pack (called The Roo) in the cut off materials when making my pack so it matches. 😊
Hi Michael. I had it the backpack made for me so it came with a mesh pocket built in. I believe there is one you can buy separately called a “bottle rocket” by Gossamer Gear which will hold 500ml or 1 ltr bottles. I just have a 500 ML Smart water bottle in mine.
Oh I loved that hostel too! Great run through thanks - I really enjoy what’s in your pack videos. I see you are like me in that you stick to mainly one colour - mine is green instead of yellow though 😂
Hi Nick, love your blog! Only just found it so been busy catching up with all your posts. Can you tell me if your Scrubba is the mini version or the bigger one? Cheers. Barbara
Hi Barbara. Thanks for watching them 😊 I use the smaller one to save a tiny bit of weight. It’s just big enough to wash a single dais worth of t shirt, underwear and socks but I like to wash daily so it’s fine for me. 😊😊
Hi Nick, thanks so much for your detailed reply. I have bought a mini one today so can't wait to get it. I am heading off next April so the excitement is building! I've only just discovered your channel and it's just the best! I've learnt so much. Thank you and keep up the great content.😉😊@@NickLivingLife
Hi Nick, forgot to mention, I also bought the little Matador soap bag too! Can't get down to your pack weight but will be under 8kgs which is remarkable for me! All thanks to you. Cheers.😀😀 @@NickLivingLife
I’ll try my best. A few more coming in the coming weeks as I head off in a few days to do the short Gran Canaria Camino 😊. Hopefully there will be some beautiful vistas and more. 😊
Hi Mark, This is an Atom Packs Atom+ which was custom made for me. It’s a 50 litre capacity ( I need a bit bigger to fit movie making stuff, drone etc). For fitting I’m in a large size for torso and medium for waist, but the pack still weighs only around 750 grams.
This is a great video. Can actually see how you packed the bag. Would you recommend rain pants and a sleeping bag in the first 3 was of October. I definitely am not worried about September given the current Temps. Thanks again. Definitely one of the most helpful.
Hi Ronald, for October I would take rain (pants or kilt ) and a rain jacket, but poncho is fine too...its all about your own preference. October is where a very very very light sleeping bag may be useful but nothing above 500g. You can always sleep wearing a fleece, puffy jacket and even your rain jacket if you are cold and it's needed so a heavy sleeping bag isn't needed as long as you don't ever intend on sleeping outside. If you have a read of the description on the video from a phone or computer, you'll find a list of gear available from Amazon that I have used and approve of. I have a link for a warmer sleep liner on there (I say for October I think on it). This will be fine on all but any rare albergues without heat in which case you can use their blankets if they have them or if not, sleep in your fleece, warmer jacket etc :)
Hey Colm. That was an awesome surprise. Really great to meet you too! 😂 Carrion seems unusually quiet for a sunny afternoon. Do all pilgrims have afternoon naps now? 😂
Hi. DCF is the new name for what used to be called Cuban Fibre. It is one of the fabrics used in modern high end ultra light equipment. It is stronger than steel for its weight against tearing so can be made incredibly light. 😊
Hi Karen. This one is made by Rab. It’s a silk one which I find to be the best lightweight one has it has anti-microbial properties like merino so requires less washing. 😊
I also use AtomPak Mo with a 45L dry bag for liner. Done 2 Caminos with it in 2022 and it still looks and feel brand new. Not cheap but light and built to last.
Thank you Nick, I find your super light packing really helpful and inspiring. Can I ask a sensitive question - what is Albergue etiquette when it comes to bedtime attire ? Your packing doesn’t include pyjama bottoms so I’m guessing underwear is acceptable ?
Underwear is ok but most people sleep in their other set of walking clothes so they are dressed for the next day. I sleep in the shorts I walk in unless they are drying from a wash in which case I wear those long grey baggy pants. The t shirt is always tomorrows walking t shirt. 😊
@@NickLivingLife Thank you again for helpful information Nick. I’ve managed to get my rucksack and bumbag weight down to 5.7Kg thanks to you (not counting the weight of full water bottles!) which feels less daunting!.
Hi Nick, what do you use for washing detergent for clothes? Do you wear woollen socks? Great to see some lesser known routes. Hope you are reapplying the sunscreen during the day. 🦘 🦘 Thanks
Hi 👋. I use the same soap for washing my clothes as washing myself. I take a bar of Dr Bronner soap (available on Amazon) that should just about last a Camino. 😊😊. Glad you are enjoying some of the scenery from the other Caminos. They are all so different and there really is a Camino for everybody.
I’m happy to answer any questions about my backpack and contents for you, just ask! 😊
Thank yoy very much 😃 this was very interesting and informative. You are a great packer 👍👍
Thanks very much. I hope it helped. 😊
Thanks, Nick! very informative.
Thanks Patrick. 😊😊
Thanks Nick for a very informative video.
I love doing these videos Anne. 6 separate Pilgrims asked me today alone what was in my pack. Easiest way is to just show everyone. 😊😊
Pleasure meeting you at La Morena alburgue, Lédigos. A great hour of free camino advice and discussion . Sincerely, the Americans, 16/6/2023.
The pleasure was all mine Jon 😊. If you need info on anything, just ask 😊. I already said it, but Buen Camino 😊

Where did you purchase your little plastic backpack for going out about town etc?

What kind of bottle holder do you use to fix the bottle on your backpack string? For what kind of bottles is it useable ?

Not sure why I went with yellow though….all the bees, wasps, flys and things seem to love that colour too. 😂😂

that’s really great! the only thing i’d change is to get a pack liner that isn’t so loud and crinkly! lol. thank you :)

@Nick Living Life - Camino de Santiago or they are hiding! Maybe it was the albergue's way of discouraging from stay there for a rest day! 🤣
