I am a Beulah native born and raised and was raised with parents both working in the coal industry. I work at the power plant that is fed by the mine and my father works as an operator at Coyote Creek mine. I wish more people would come and experience our area and what it has to offer. Our power plants keep your phone charged, lights on, and heat or AC running. Aside from nearly 70% of Beulah being employed at one of the local mines or plants and seeing them from town, you'd never know they exist. BTW, the Country Kettle is slept on by most tourists but its definitely worth a stop.

I know it’s being heavily regulated. In my opinion it needs to have less regulation. Power is to important and it’s not worth making these companies jump through hoops in order to do it.
With that said I know they have to take off the top soil and then they mine the coal with the drag line. Then it is loaded on trains and hauled to the power plants.

My brain has such a hard time grasping the size of these machines. Its one of those things I know video just doesn't do it justice. Around 2:43 I know those dump trucks are MASSIVE machines. and its so hard to understand until you see its got a ladder on it and a walkway meaning the driver is like 12 feet off the ground or something. Then you see the Pc2000 and trying to grasp its size is even harder. Then you see the drag line and I mentally can't grasp the size because I have never seen one in person.

Well done to the coal mining companies that do what they do. Their maintenance program is especially commendable and necessary.
Sad to say, America cannot manufacture these giant draglines any longer and many of the mining machines if our lives depended on it. Deindustrialization carries a terrifying price and we'd have to import a giant dragline if we needed a new one. Probably from China like everything else. Gotta get manufacturing costs down so the Top 1% can indulge themselves and not suffer one shekel less.

Just some constructive feedback. Don’t say “we’re gonna see some 11’s and scrapers and the PC 2000” and literally not show any content of those machines. It’s just my opinion but I’d much rather watch 45 mins of those machines running than 10 mins of scatterdness all over the place with hardly any real content. /endrant

Interesting equipment, hopefully it isn’t running to much longer. Lignite is a extremely dirty fossil fuel, due to the large amount of impurities that are trapped in it during its formation. Reclamation never leaves the environment as clean as it was before mining, there’s often water quality issues in aquifers and in surface waters.

I hope they stay running, if those mines close, those draglines get TNT’d, we’ve lost an entire species of mining machine called giant power shovels with the sole surviving one being half the size of the biggest one
