- Today we're addressing that bottle of sweet vermouth taking up room in your fridge! Seeing how it doesn't keep forever, I thought a few classic drink ideas to use it up might be helpful. Here are some of my favorites beyond the popular Manhattan and Negroni. From sweet to sour, strong to session-able -each drink calls for a different base spirit. So whatever style of cocktail you're in the mood for, there should be one for you. Grab your sweet vermouth, give these a try, and let me know which one is your favorite! Cheers!

Do you have a bottle of vermouth hanging out in your fridge?
Anders, love the studio. I emailed you!
A bottle of sweet vermouth and dry vermouth and now I have some new uses for the sweet. Thanks!
Yes. And not just one. You are my enabler
Glad you call out drinking sweet Vermouth neat. I recall Bert Cooper's patrician sister in Mad Men ordering a sweet Vermouth with her lunch. Fabulous
smokey Manhattans for years to come....
Welcome back Anders, it's friends!
👌🏼
Haha nice!!!
😂😂
My family from Argentina will typically mix sweet vermouth with 7-Up to have with cheese, salami, olives, and peanuts
I've been watching you for I'd say about over 2 years now, and I'm just now turning 21 in like 10 hours. So I'm well prepared to start my own home bar when I get the fundage. Thank you for inspiring me and everyone else and keep being you!
Happy birthday, Jeremiah!! 🍾 Thanks for being here for so long!
Happy birthday! Might be time to revisit his “Build-a-bar” videos :)
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Got a Venmo? Willing to support the first cocktail!
Happy birthday and it's sad that over there you can go to war at 18 but not have a drink, but hey, you made it! Enjoy it!!! :)
I am so glad you included vermouth and soda at the end of it. I'm more of a vermouth on the rocks with an olive garnish myself(also as the drink it in spain), but it's the same point. I think that one of the biggest tragedies in mixology is that people think vermoth is just for mixing. It is a beautiful drink that tastes like an herbaceous cola. Much love.
Daniel. Totally agree. Going to San Sebastián in a week to enjoy the vermouth.
When my sister and her husband visited me here in the US and ventured out on their own, she ordered a martini and was surprised "how strong it was", when she expected straight vermouth, rosso martini being a popular brand in Germany. Laughed about that one for a while.
This is my favorite way to use vermouth. Soooo good
In San Sebastian I noticed a lot of times they would add a little dash of gin. The vermouths themselves (e.g. Yzaguirre) were a little lighter and smoother than, say, martini rosso. Usually garnished with a slice of orange or lemon or an olive or all three. At a fancier place they would mist it with something. I asked what the mist was and one place said something like 3 parts vermouth, 2 parts gin, 1 part orange bitters. Another place was adding a dash from a premixed bottle of campari/gin/angostura. Regardless of the exact details, they just call this concoction "vermut" or "vermut preparado", not really thinking of it as a cocktail. It's similar to ordering a Coke and getting it on ice with a lemon wedge -- it's still just a Coke.
Here is another typical description, unfortunately in Spanish: www.conpan.es/content/view/391/36-vermut-preparado
@@CraigFalls1 I work in a bar in Bilbao and is very tipical for each bar to have their own way of preparing the vermut. As you said it can have gin, campari and angostura but some places will add a bit of orange juice and play with the garnishes to, like a orange slice or an olive or both.
That Bijou Rocks! Our signature drink for New Years Eve! Cheers!
Thanks for another great video. I've bartended for awhile and I'm always thrilled to watch your videos. Bartenders lacking the inflated ego with a friendly disposition are the king of the game.
One of my favorite ways to use up vermouth is another two-birds-one-stone recipe. The Diplomat calls for two ounces of dry vermouth, one ounce of sweet vermouth, a couple dashes of orange bitters, and a teaspoon of maraschino liqueur to be built on the rocks and served with a lemon twist.
this is my go-to if i have vermouth that needs using up, though i do go for an orange twist rather than lemon
Gonna have to try that.
The Vieux Carré is by far my favorite cocktail using sweet vermouth. And picked up the recipe here on this channel…thanks Anders!
Recently in Barcelona and at the most Amazing Tapas bar and had their house Vermouth and I am hooked. So this selection is my bag!!
Boulevardier served straight up is one of my favorites. I enjoy it mostly at home, since most bartenders seem to screw up the proportions of this simple to make drink
A fave of mine as well. I got one a couple weeks ago that was built decently, but their ice instantly melted (needed a huge rock).
The La Louisiane is essentially a deeper more robust version of the Boulevardier but sub out the Campari with Benedictine and add bitters and absinthe.
@@justinbeynon7980 Boulevardier is better with Bourbon though, because the Campari and putting Campari + Rye together would make for a very dry cocktail. Benedictine is much sweet so goes well with the Rye .
I really appreciate these videos of cocktails made with [some ingredient]. It makes it so much easier for us amateurs to grab that one ingredient and try it in a variety of ways with stuff we probably already have. I had never thought about simply mixing sweet vermouth and soda water. I saw this video, thought to myself "Oh, that sounds interesting!", immediately ran down stairs and made one, then ran back up just to leave this comment. **sip** This is seriously good! It's a has a lot of what I like about my favorite afternoon sipper (Fernet con Coca), but is MUCH more mild. It's certainly an instant top 5 for me.
Love this. Cheers Josh!
Vermouth and soda is such a classic here in Argentina. We also love it with tonic. Glad to see it recognized by you.
Dude your channel is such a huge benefit to me. I’ve seen so many of your videos, and you make them so easy to consume! Just like your cocktails!
I’ve been sitting on an unopened bottle of Sweet Vermouth for the exact reasons you spelled out. So happy to have a few more cocktails to use it in.
Sweet vermouth and soda brings good memories of living in Spain twenty-something years ago. Thanks for your cocktail recipes, Anders. You're a master of your art, sir.
as usual, the timing of the video is spot on...I have been thinking about my sweet vermouth bottle...thank you!!!!!
Love this video! I love vermouth on the rocks or with soda so I always have some on hand, but it's good to have some other options now
My favorite sweet vermouth cocktail is a Blood and Sand: equal parts scotch, sweet vermouth, Cherry Heering and orange juice. Sounds like a weird mix of ingredients, but they really work together
Perfect Video as autumn approaches and thus for me the sweet vermouth periode of the year.
To use my sweet vermouth when I was out of rye, I tried with brandy, vermouth and cointreau. Mix and express orange oil. Loved it
As always my friend another great video! Family is all coming over for the holiday and these cocktails will definitely on the menu. Thanks so much for all of the fantastic cocktails!
Cheers Michael!
Your videos are an absolute delight. Can't wait to try making all of these. Cheers!
Anders - you're fantastic! I really love your content and you inspire to dare do cocktails that I never tried before.
And one of my absolute favourites with sweet vermouth is the Americano - a magical drink on a hot summer day.
Thanks for everything you do.
These are all so good! I also love a Hanky Panky when I’m using sweet vermouth
Just wanted to say, GREAT Channel! Thanks for doing this, loving the history and the way you instruct...Amazing! Love from Albuquerque
Okay, Anders...you were right! My favorite cocktails (in order) are the Negroni, Boulevardier, and a Manhattan. I tried your La Louisiane recipe to the letter, and it has now taken 3rd place (replacing the Manhattan) for me. Incredible flavors in each sip. Thanks for being the #1 resource for cocktails!!!
My favourite way to use up my vermouth is a simple americano. I always have Campari around so its an easy cocktail to put together. Pretty sessionable too!
Excellent video! Excited to learn about vermouth and soda!
I've been using Sweet Vermouth for Negronis only. This was great for expanding my repertoire.
Vermut y Soda! A classic here in Argentina, my favorite aperitif!
Finished watching this video with lunch and immediately went to the kitchen to make myself a Vermouth & Soda and you're right, it's a delight!
Great idea for an episode! Thanks!
omg couldn’t have been more a perfect timing!!!! I started making more cocktails at work and have a bottle of sweet vermouth there that I don’t know what to do with and was looking for cocktails like yesterday
I forgot I had everything to make a La Louisiane. Your recipe, amazing. Thanks for reminding me that this was on my to make list.
Man, cocchi and soda is truly fantastic. Anders, you're the man!
a great help for additional knowledge in Bar, Thank You Sir!!!
La Louisiene has become one of my favorite sweet vermouth drinks after I’ve seen your video about it. Thanks Andres, love your channel!
Your bijou became my favourite recipe since the OG video, as well as the real reason I have sweet vermouth throughout the year in my fridge. This video simply expands on the fact that the red one beats the others with versatility.
thanks for the ideas for cocktails using vermouth. lots of interesting tasting drinks. thanks and cheers
Vermouth delicious, in a cocktail, over a block of ice, straight up. Lovely. Del professore is my fav. Dolin and 78 deg are awesome too.
Queen's Park Hotel Super Cocktail for the win! I made this for a guest at my bar last night. She enjoyed it immensely. Many thanks, Anders! Hello from San Jose, California 🤙🏼
Please do the same with dry vermouth! I buy the small bottles and it still sits in my fridge for way too long
I'm drinking an old pal right now, just to use up the dry vermouth.
Now I know I'm a proper Anders fan. All of these drinks (except the "& soda") are already in my repertoire... all because of YOU, Anders. And they are great.
I just recently got into cocktail making and I have a bottle of sweet Vermouth sitting in my fridge that I want to use up.
You timing is excellent!
I always make a point to LIKE your videos as soon as they start. Partly because I love your intros, but also because I know I’m going to love the rest. CHEERS!
Great video! Vermouth was never a problem bc we always had Spanish vermouth on the fridge (while living in Spain heh) and it was just a classic to drink on the rocks. It was also the drink to go for most of my Italian friends on spring nights, some good Spanish vermouth on the rocks and good olives
Here (Argentina) we've been having vermouth and soda since the beginning of times (bit of an exaggeration, ofc), I'm glad you included it in this list, since it's so simple yet so good 👌I like to add some sort of citrus oil/peel as well
I am certainly going down this road. Thanks for more great drinks. 🍸
Fantastic run through. Will definitely be coming back to reference this one.
Thanks for the ideas. Will try a couple this weekend 🍻
Wow, Anders ... Thank you so much for this list of drinks in which sweet vermouth has the starring role. This video is destined for a permanent bookmark! Liquor stores everywhere will notice an uptick in vermouth sales because of you. 😄
Indeed i do! Its been in the fridge for some time(months propably). Thanks lots Anders! You have become my favorite cocktail youtube channel and person
Thank you so much!
The Queen's Park Hotel Super Cocktail is incredible! Absolutely love it.
Dude! I love green chartreuse and sweet vermouth but the first time I had a Bijou I didn’t think it was great.
But your version is fantastic. Seriously fixed the drink for me. I love it!
I'm liking already, and I'm not even past the intro. Take me to the bar Anders!
Great 'Additions'...Anders! Really Enjoyed! Your Canadian Bartender!.....
I’ve made the first two on your list many times (and they’re delicious!). Thanks for giving me three more SV options to try!
Glad you like the first two! Happy mixing!
You’re a beast Anders lot respect for you , the master of cocktails you’re the man
Tried the la Louisiana , you are right, very nice
I am going to make all these but that last one really intrigues me. And thanks to you, we have kept our vermouth in the fridge - just did a Dry Vermouth drink (Rome With A View) and it was great. We like vermouth over here! I need to get some sherry, but the Adonis sounds really fantastic! Thanks for making this video!
I just really enjoy all your videos.
I learned a lot from you.
I was just thinking to learn more about sweet vermouth cocktails.
And all your cocktails what you just show us it looks like very good. I can't wait to try them.
All the best ad please just make more and more videos.
Thank you 😊 😊 😊
Cheers to you Linda! Thank you!
I appreciate that the RUM sign remains in the background. I like that sign (and I like rum!).
Finaly someone sharing the beauty of a simple vermouth and soda, im from italy here you can't even find a small bottle of vermouth, just 1 liter ones, so vermouth and soda is the way to go, since it was invented
My favorite sweet vermouth cocktail is the La Louisiane (or it's cousin, the Vieux Carre). I love the 2:1:1 ratio of your recipe as opposed to others, and I love the look of serving it over a big rock.
This is the video I needed!
YES!! Been searching for SOMETHING my palette would find enjoyable w/ Green Chartreuse. (Bijou)
Oh it's me again! Thank you so much Anders! I have just the sweet vermouth dilemma where it is indispensable in several cocktails but it can sit in the fridge in the rest of time. Same situation with dry vermouth! Please a dry vermouth version of this video!
It’s like you read my mind! Thanks for the ideas! I sometimes hate opening a bottle of vermouth cause I’m afraid I’ll waste it.
I updated my La Louisiana recipe to this one. It’s great.
The La Louisiane entered my regular rotation the first time I made it. Love it.
Guilty of being in the Manhattan rut. Played with it a lot (adding a bit of dry vermouth or a couple kinds of bitters). Then I learned about the Black Manhattan (maybe on this channel) and I never looked back. Then I got all the makings for a proper Singapore Sling and ended up with a bottle of Cherry Heering. Stumbled on something called a "Cherry Old Fashioned" which is essentially a Manhattan with the Heering replacing the Vermouth. So... I definitely need some other uses for the Sweet Vermouth. Some of these sound amazing and I will try them. And as another commenter pointed out,, on the rocks with a twist is a great aperitif. Ubiquitous in South America--often sipped sitting outdoors under a Cinzano umbrella. Thanks for these among many great recipes on this channel.
My local whiskey bar has a cocktail called the Kentucky orange flower! It is now my favorite drink to make at home.
Bourbon, vermouth, Elderflower, orange bitters, angostura bitters, orange peel, in Rocks glass.
Queens Park Hotel Super Cocktail is now on the menu for tonight, since I have all the ingredients for it. VERY excited to give this a go! Same with the vermouth and soda!
I'm definitely a manhattan man, but lately the Jean Harlow (1.5 oz light rum, 1.5 oz sweet vermouth, lemon twist, optional dash of orange bitters) has been on deck. Couldn't be easier, and it's one of those drinks that's so tasty you can't figure out how it went out of style.
Not bring a big Vermouth drinker, I stumbled on the Martinez this summer - and it opened my eyes! I'm going to try the others for sure.
Great Anders....good luck!!
I don't know if I said this before but I'm an amateur with cocktails and mixed drinks etc. I can say because of you I'm able to try new beverages and find what I like. Thanks Anders for being my icon. 😉🥰🥰🥰
Cheers Leda! Happy the videos are helping you explore new drinks! 🥂
i actually do have a bottle of sweet vermouth that has been in there for a couple months so this should be the perfect video
kinda funny how that works out
My ears perked up when I realized I had all the ingredients for a Queen’s Park Hotel Super Cocktail.
Wasn’t sure about that flavor combination, but- damn. This is a new favorite. Thank you.
Extremely useful video. I always have trouble using all my sweet vermouth before it needs to be replaced. I like the usuals, manhattan, negronis, boulevardier, etc, but I mix things up quite a bit, and the kind I like isn't available in half-bottles. I immediately tried the Queen's Park Hotel Super Cocktail...it was a hit!! Now I''v finally gotten around to trying the simple sweet vermouth and soda...another hit! One of those "this is so simple, how haven't I done this before?" hits! Thanks for the heads up, Anders!
I have been thinking of the sweet vermouth in my fridge thank u anders
Cocktails I can ask in a bar... how delightful. Thanks.
The La Louisiane is by absolute favorite cocktail. It doesn't get nearly enough love.
You and the educated barfly are my favorite RUclips bartenders to watch!!!! Love your videos.
One of my all time favourites is the Bitter Guiseppe, a cynar cocktail. My little tip is to measure your orange bitters (1/4 Oz) rather than dash as it's really important you get that 1:1 ratio of lemon juice to orange bitters.
This is an amazing resource! Definitely have some vermouth that needs finishing
So easy to look at my friend.
Vermouth and soda is really awesome ♥️
Perfecto Anders. 🍸
Whoo Hoo for Trinidad 🇹🇹
The Queen’s Park Swizzle was also born at the Queen’s Park Hotel which is now the BP office.
Thanks for the video
i am glad that the last coctail was very simple. please make more of these 2 ingredient coctails. you know you get home after long day and need some easiest coctail ever. 2 ingredience and thats it. please make video on some 2 minute coctails. love u
One of my fav vermouth cocktails is blood and sand. you should all try It . very simple to make. All equal parts. one blend scotch, one sweet vermouth, one cherry heering, one blood orange (freshly squeezed of course) shake with ice, strain and enjoy. Love it on a cool evening in my yard
A really good one I found is the duchess which I 1 par dry vermouth 1 part sweet verm 1 part absinthe and 1 dash orange bitters.
The last one is easy and great~~~
They all look yummy!
The Martinez! Thanks to you I know and love this drink. Always a treat anytime of year, and experimenting with the gin makes it really fun and interesting.
I needed this video! Immediately popped home and poured from my massive bottle the vermouth and soda. Delightful! And very cola-esque! Cheers and thanks! 🥂
Cheers Brian!
A place here in Minneapolis serves a drink they call "Tonight, we take Manhattan", which I immediately loved. I went home a figured it out: One part bourbon, one part sweet vermouth, one part Amaro. Stir to chill. Bip, Bam, Boom! Impossible simple and delicious.
