Yes please. A well made (bars seem to find this too much of a challenge) 2:1 martini is the greatest cocktail of all time. I could drink them every day for the rest of my life. In fact, I will. Would love to see your video on it
I've long thought you would slay a Vesper explanation and history. That's been one of my favorites but it is misunderstood mainly due to spirit/vermouth recipe changes (Gordon's, Lillet) etc.
Anders at his best ... shows us some under-the-radar, tasty cocktails we should be drinking. Everyone needs a few Martini riffs so they can assemble a short list of go-to tipples when the clock is ticking on an open bottle of 375ml vermouth.
A friend recently told me that she has started to have a "happy hour" at home every Friday after work, seeing these drinks has me wanting to do the same!
375, in Denmark they are 750, that is a Lot of martinis to drink 😄 serious question though, circa how long will an open bottle of vermouth endure in the fridge?
You simultaneously make me want to open a cocktail bar and realise that I don't know anywhere near enough about cocktails. Every video is a lesson and I love making these drinks. Thanks Anders
Just wanted to say I am amazed by how much better your videos are than *any* other cocktail channel on RUclips, including those with several multiples higher subscribers. Not to knock any of them--plenty of them are very good and are worth watching--but your channel's combination of laid-back attitude, restrained (i.e. not over the top) goofiness, deep experience and skill, excellent audio and video quality, and a sense of openness and kindness really puts you head and shoulders above everyone else doing this. I wish you both all the success in the world with this endeavor. And thank you so much for all the amazing advice you've given me on making better cocktails!
I love that you say to keep vermouth in the fridge, as soon as I found that out awhile back I started doing that at work and it helps a lot! My boss was like "why do you put vermouth in the fridge? This is the only place I've worked that does that." And I'm like "Because that's what your supposed to do!" This is at a country club too lol
Highly recommend getting a wine vacuum sealer for your vermouth. Oxidization is your enemy and being able to open a bottle, use it, and then seal it back up without any air will keep your vermouth lasting longer and tasting better, and will help you keep making higher quality drinks.
Please create a cocktail book of your own. I LOVE your cocktail sips, tips, and recipes..hehehehe!!! Oh, and Curiada is amazing to work with. Thanks for turning me on to them.
Something I learned from a book called Just Cocktails, is that dashes of liqueurs were different from dashes of bitters, and was done with something closer to a speed pour than a dasher. A modern dash is often cited at about an 1/8th of a teaspoon, where as the ones for Luxardo of Benedictine in those old recipes were closer to 1/3rd of a teaspoon. Those kinds of measurements made a lot more sense to me when I looked at a lot of pre-prohibition cocktails.
Love your channel. I'm a total amateur cocktail maker but I'm learning. My drinks have improved dramatically since finding your channel. 1. martini video? Yes please!! I wasn't crazy about martinis but have been scaling down the dry vermouth and its becoming my favorite. 2. More Az!! She's great. Her facial expressions are fantastic. She really needs her own channel just talking about anything really. You two are great. Thanks!
Hey Anders, Thanks a lot for your content 🙏 In case you decide to make another episode of subscriber's cocktails, here's one by me. Story (just didn't have triple sec at home, so decided to create my own Margarita 😂) Limoncello Margarita by Levon 60ml - tequila reposado 20ml - lime juice 20ml - limoncello 5ml - agave syrup 2 dashes orange bitters Shake it and serve in a rocks glass over ice.
I was surprised by your Ford recipe, since I got mine from the Dead Rabbit and its a little different. Since this recipe is one of my favorite cocktails of all time, I highly recommend you to try it (and ofc make a comparison video ;)). Here are the specs: 1,5oz. Dry Gin (Tanqueray) 1,5oz. Dolin Blanc 0,5oz. Maraschino 3 Dashes Orange Bitters 5 Dashes Absinth Mixing: Stirred Glas: Coupe Garnish: Orange peel This is what a real cocktail is about: booze and bitters. Learn it, love it, live it.
Hey Anders! We made both the cocktails, first round was exactly your recipes using Bombay Sapphire. Second round, I went with #3 gin, reduced the Dolin to 1/2 oz and left everything else the same. Tina liked the Rolls Royce better w the 1:1 Bombay gin:vermouth ratio, but the Ford with the 1:1/3rd #3 gin:vermouth. I liked the opposite, enjoying the #3 Rolls Royce. So the learning here is - better gin, better drink, and less vermouth let’s the gin shine! Keep em coming!
I first discovered the Rolls Royce martini over 20 years ago. But never the Ford. I must take the day off from work now and indulge my senses with both. Thanks for the video!
Anders... Outstanding as usual. Not having the components at home, I took your recipe for The Ford, The Rolls Royce, and my wife's favorite, The Classic White Lady, to a restaurant bar here in Houston, and they did us the honor of happily making all three. It was our first taste of the The Ford and The Rolls Royce. Both are amazing, and although I plan to make both often, I will be having The Ford the most - it is simply superb. Thanks for these recipes.
I'm sipping a Ford right now as I write this. Excellent, über-refreshing tipple! I had seen the Ford in Ted Haigh's book (I've got both the original and revised versions), but hadn't paid much attention to it. I made mine with Ransom Old Tom. I always learn something new and fun on your channel, Anders. Thanks, and you and Az keep up the good work!
I love these videos for the content, quality and accents! I'm from Minnesota (scandi living away from the midwest) and both you and Az have the strongest midwestern accents! Super appreciate the quality educational content, amazing camera skills, and super reminder of home.
I absolutely love Benedictine and now my mind is blown - never thought I should try it in a Martini, a cocktail that I can't seem to "get". I am trying the Ford today! Also, still waiting on the Martini episode, can't wait to see you teach us your way of doing it! Cheers Anders and Az, have a nice one! 🥂☀️
@@AndersErickson My bottle of Benedictine is almost gone and we only bought it a couple months ago. And that's mostly due to your La Louisiana recipes.
I'm not a fan of the traditional Dry Martini. However, these 2 drinks are looking much more promising. I never had Benedictine, so couldn't try them. What I could try and liked very much is a subfamily of Martinis made with dry gin, dry vermouth, maraschino liqueur and absinthe (dash/rinse): Moonshine Martini, Turf Club, Tuxedo 1 and 2. They all have the above ingredients, only in different proportions (I've listed them from sweeter to dryer). It would be fantastic if you could do a head to head comparison between them. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Off the wall idea, my dentist (don't give up on me, just keep reading) has Bon Appetit videos playing in a loop and I love that because I like cooking new things and variety. Wouldn't be cool if cocktail bars had AE videos playing somewhere in the room to inspire customers to try new drinks?
So, literally two years later I find this video (and it's not like I haven't been looking at your videos, it's just RUclips's algorithm). This is brilliant (and I happen to have a bottle of Bénédictine just because). Going to try the Ford.
I had a couple friends over and most of them liked the Rolls Royce most. Might have been the name though. Great video Anders and a friend of mine who loves Martini variations will love both of these, thank you!
Your channel has helped me perfect my craft more than any other channel-- apart from Bar Rescue lmao-- and i cant thank you enough. You make me want to pass on all your sips and tips! Keep up the awesome content.
I dont have Benedictine so I used Cynar for the Ford recipe and it turned quite interesting. Has the sweetness and the herbal flavours, turned extremely dry though (not sure how it suppose to be with Bene)
We did the side by side. They are similar, but I prefer the Rolls Royce. It’s a little less sweet and more gin forward. How about doing a Vesper next time.
I’ve been watching a ton of your videos - I enjoy the content, and the drinks always look awesome. I keep telling myself I’ll try making one some weekend, but that hasn’t happened yet. This weekend, my mission will be to make the Ford cocktail and see how it tastes. Looks right up my alley!

I did NOT know vermouth should be kept refrigerated. Thanks for that! I only found out now that it even says it on the bottle in a font size for ants.. another lesson learned!
Hey Anders, what do you think of this: 1 part each Cynar, Kahlua, Dolin Rouge over crushed ice, top with diet coke. I usually do about an ounce each and start with half a can but I top it off as I drink for different feels. Is there a name for this style of drink? Is there a name for the drink before the coke? I've been trying different Coca Cola drinks recently, (really liked Averna and Coke), and I came across this combo and it's been my favorite for a while.
Thank you for the great quality content as always! Learning how to make cocktails all the way here in Singapore, and I really appreciate the thought put into your videos

I love the Forgotten Cocktail book. I made a parody video last April Fools of Vino last year. In that video I made the Park Avenue cocktail from this very book. This was a fun cocktail. You two are on point together! Cheers!
@@AndersErickson I gotta do another one. I won an award from Vino for that yuh know! Lol! Never actually got my award…. 🤔 But what can you do. Just to win was enough! Lol! Mahalo Anders!
Hejsan! You really got me into benedictine, thank you for that! If you are making the dry martini sometime in the future, i would line to know your take on choice of gin, i tried gin mare (instead of the usual beefeater/bombay/gordon etc) and found a new dimension of martinis, so with that in mind, there are probably more to learn, and im guessing you have a deeper knowledge there and would love your taka on it.
I'd love to watch your take on the martini! I have a lot of opinions on it. I especially don't get the appeal of vodka martinis, since neutral spirit is added to vermouth to fortify it, so vodka martinis are basically just over-fortivied vermouths! (Obviously anyone should enjoy whatever drink they enjoy, I just don't personally get it).
Hi Anders, at the moment I only have beefeater, Gordon, and Bombay Sapphire gin. Which one would you use as a substitute for those two cocktails? Thanks in advance
I saw this video when it first came out, and thought these drinks looked delicious but didnt have any of the ingredients to make them. Now, nearly a year later I came across the video again, and now I actually have the ingredients. So I guess I know what Im making tonight :D
This is easily my favorite RUclips channel. Great work, Anders! I'd love a martini video. Also, it would be interesting for you to talk about what it means to "bruise" gin. Is that a myth or a legit thing? I've heard you shouldn't shake cocktails that only use spirits but you have the famous line "shaken not stirred" from James Bond. It seems that if you make a dirty martini then shaking might help incorporate the olive juice. Otherwise, just stir. I really don't know. Another question is what type of gin works best in a martini? Do you prefer a dry or botanical gin? I love martinis and I'd love to hear your take on them.
You bring up a lot of great points. A lot to consider when it comes to the martini. Happy to see some interest on the topic - it'll be a fun video! Cheers!
You know, it'd be cool if you dove into Dr. Cocktail's book and put some of the hard to find stuff - wood aged peach brandy, torani amour, tonicola - on your curiada...
Would it make a big difference in the Ford cocktail to use a London Dry Gin instead of Old Tom Gin? I haven't been able to find anything but London Dry gin locally, and I can't order alcohol for delivery in my state.
Hey Anders! Do you use any good cocktail apps on your phone? I am interested in something I can use to match up the bottles I have with recipes to try. Do you have any recommendations?
I watch your videos everyday too help me grow as a Bartneder!! I’m super excited.. thank you for the awesome resource.. once I have money I’m funneling money too you and your ideas
A request if I may. I had a cocktail once called a Bluetail Fly, it was amazing. Creamy and came with an umbrella! Have you heard of it and could you make it, I recall it was made with Blue Curaçao possibly?
It's very interesting how you drink both dry and sweet cocktails and you are like "oh I like it". I cannot swallow the dry ones. Ps. Still waiting for Voodoo Grog!... or at least another tiki ;)
Hey Anders, I'd like to try making The Ford, but where I live in the Caribbean there are no Old Tom Gins available. What are some possible gins I might be able to use? Closest I've been able to find is a Tanqueray Malacca.
Would Martin Mossi rosso work vermouth wise? Or are you dead set on Dolin. Also, have you ever tried Greenhook Ginsmiths old Tom and if so what are your thoughts?
Hey Anders! When you DO make the martini video, could you please explain the different Variations? I know there are words for like 50 Gin 50% Vermouth etc. and I would love to learn them!

Cheers!
@@AndersErickson Have you ever used Mattei Cap Corse Quinquina instead of dry vermouth?
Another one (2!) I’ll have to try
you're right it was easy to like this video.
"...but I'm not, this is a cocktail channel" had me bust out laughing for some reason
I've enjoyed Perfect Martinis, I'm going to try Rolls-Royce now
Fun episode!
Love to hear you're growing as a bartender - and happy the channel can help! Thanks for the support! Happy mixing!
And just like that the linked coupe glasses are out of stock at the Amazon link.
Just updated the link - hope it helps!
Would Martin Mossi rosso work vermouth wise? Or are you dead set on Dolin.
Also, have you ever tried Greenhook Ginsmiths old Tom and if so what are your thoughts?
No shout out to NorthShore Distillery for the Gin? It’s an amazing place!
Anders I'm curious about the reason for doubling the vermouth in the Rolls from the Savoy recipe. Doesnt that make it more wet?
Hey Anders! When you DO make the martini video, could you please explain the different Variations? I know there are words for like 50 Gin 50% Vermouth etc. and I would love to learn them!
