    Peter saw some kids playing touch football at sunset after REM had done a performance. It touched him and made him cry. He told Michael about it and Michael wrote the lyrics. Bill got up to use the bathroom one night and he had a tune stuck in his head. He went into the kitchen where he had a cheap little keyboard and played this music. Each band member has his opinion on what the song means. It just depends on whether you talk to Michael, Mike, Bill, or Pete. The lyrics/music are perfect.

    I agree with one reviewer of 'Murmur' -it sounds as though it could have been written in any period of music. Very dense album, full of creative depth. Can always re-listen to it.

    WOW!! Amazing song, full of emotion & wonderful close-ups of Michael's face... 3:44 is my favorite one when he sings with a lot of feeling & can see closer his beautiful eyes xD

    Actually, along with this one, he has written 3 of my favorite REM songs (According to what I have read);
    Driver8
    Can't get there from here
    I took you name
    The fables album makes a lot more sense when you know that Berry wrote driver8 and can't get there from here. The best 2 songs on the album as far as I'm concerned (tightly followed by maps and legends).
    Also:
    Everybody hurts
    man on the moon
    leave
    among others I'm sure...

    as for the music, bill berry is considered to take the main (original) part in songs like:
    perfect circle
    hairshirt (and it is him who plays the mandolin)
    everybody hurts
    find the river
    leave
    ...just that i can think of now
