Voodoo is genius one of the few albums i never get tired of it ,its a modern classic, black messiah is great too its different;)
scirasco1 Raphael Saadiq produce this along with Lady off of Brown Sugar. Like he said S p a c e. Less is more with this particular song. Prince used this a lot in his ballads. Let the song breathe.
Voodoo is one of the greatest albums of all time, never gets old!
@@Guitarwizza1
So true... What caught my attention was the fact that U named 2 of my fav artists,... namely *Raphael Saddiq & Prince* ... However, the True genius of this song was the late, great *Spanky Alford* who laid down these guitar licks!... *Spanky* can also be heard all over *Tony Toni Tone's* best album *House Of Music* ... *D'Angelo & Raphael* got the best outta *Spanky* shortly B4 his untimely demise! 🎸
PS - *Dwayne Wiggins* Raphael's half-Brother *(T.T.T.)* also has some soulful guitar licks as well!
@@santino591 Yeah I know about Spanky on House Of Blues album. But the guitar on "How Does It Feel" is Raphael on a Telecaster. He mentioned it many times in interviews. Plus Spanky approach is much more intricate along with playing his semi-hollow Gibsons.
Your on camera presence has improved so much since a couple years ago
Besides the amazin’ playing, soo cool that you are teaching how to hold back and share room for other sounds so the overall feel of the song can come across its best!! Thanks for sharing these videos Kerry.
Glad you liked it!
I love how it feels
Loved it!!! Your style is the missing piece.
Thank you
You making me dawnload every lesson and practice you making me keep going thank you
Bro I felt this on so many levels
You just made half the viewers preggant with this video. SUCH amazing playing! Thanks for what you do.
I love how the space provides room for the Hendrix double stops, it's not just Prince like but cool how he had the Hendrix fills also
I'm intermediate at best so thank you so much brother for sharing, keep living your gifts.
Man!! I feeling that. It's been awhile since I played. I need to get to this way to play. I'm deep soul bro
hey great tutorial Kerry! This my favorite song! Percussive feel and sense of space on point! I just wanna say coming from a jazz background that I think the 4th chord is a "backdoor dominant" C9 where you can use some very interesting voicings like C9#11, or any inversion of E half diminished. This is a chord that D'angelo also uses on Africa from the same album! Not trying to come in and act like I'm better than u or anything but this was something that helped spice up my playing on this song! And thanks for the ideas and hard work!
These sus4 chords are amazing. Just now getting into extended chords.
Vince Bennett good deal!
This was my favorite lesson in Kerry's Kamp. You break it down brotha!
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure the last chord of the progression is a C9, according to my ears anyway but the Gmin still works.
C7#11
@@bawseeeee602 yes it is thank you!
I also play c9 there
Yeah I'm pretty sure the progression is em9/A
Gmaj7
C7#11
D maj7
But remember this is the GUITAR PART you have a bass player so remember that
@@williamland2646 thank you guys so much. He just kinda kept flying past it, and never really clarified what it actually was
i never realized how important the space is. thank you!
Thank you this lesson was the bomb....thank you...i learn so from you...🔥🔥🔥🔥
Warren Blanchette, Jr good deal!
Killed it, worked on this for a student, they loved it.
Great lesson.....so on point.....
marc suggs thanks
Now tho is right on time, This is one of my favorite lessons so far. For me, it’s all the fill in work you teach, those are the golden nuggets I seek, and the flow, letting it breathe is something I’ve been working on. Thanks for the lesson
Gizms12 good deal!
I can’t play the guitar but I love watching your videos. I hope to learn in the future
Have u learned?
amazing, how does it feel is one of my favourite songs of all time. i love how you talk about space in music and restraint, i really think thats beautiful too. my rhythm is totally off, really need to work on it
Still too advanced for me (I think)
Only 16 months in.
But I like watching.
Just practice sweep picking but go slow at first I could finally do those chords my second year of practicing
Sensacional ! Muito obrigado por compartilhar.
Just play the video on a slower speed 0,5 and you should be fine
You'll get there. I'm 5.5 years in and finally starting to sound really good.
@@nicholasmoore7659 I'm enjoying the heck out of the guitar.
I CERTAINLY wish I'd started earlier
Wow, I Think I Can Play It Now After Watching This. I Self Taught Myself To Play Brown Sugar, I'd Love To See How You Play It To Compare And See If I Was Right Within What I Was Hearing By Ear.

You're welcome!
Thank you so much for sharing this CLASSIC !!!
Great tutorial. And a joy to hear you singing along with the lines. Please consider a seperate track for your voice. I'm gonna go find some space now!
I’m with you about not overplaying a song as I try to play the same, BUT can you PLEASE go in just once. Especially for a song like this! Just once my brotha, let us see the magic
I like what you're doing on this.. my friend Spanky was the cat that did this, good job. Thanks.. Cats dont give songs the space needed for the vocalist. D'Angelo is my favorite artist..
Great lesson, I really appreciate you sharing your talent. Much respect!
I got it now thanks
Dope stuff Kerry
This has been my long time favorite song for expression
daniel matayaunga good deal
Thanks man, I was trying to figure this out.
This was unreal, first song I ever understood how to jam on. The teaching style is amazing, a lot of room to learn and incorporate my own style! Keep it coming!!!!! More D'Angelo!!
Dude- you are a monster. I usually play rock, but you got me back home, lol.
Thank you for the education I love this song and D'Angelo and this is so fun to play
love when you go over dense songs!!!!!!!
Marc Oliver solid
This is a great explanation of the song beyond just the chords. There were some great tips in there to really get some of those sounds you hear on the original track. Definitely earned a sub with this one. Thanks bro!
One of my all time fave D trax. Thanks!

Charles Grace yes sir!!
Monster talent, brother!!!
so stoked on this, especially how you dont just show how to play it, its more about knowing how to play it - to allow incorporation of this into other songs
That's dope Kerry! 👍
Thx a lot dude.
Regards from Germany
I can’t wait to buy my guitar and get busy relearning. I haven’t played in 30 plus years. Hope it’s like riding a bike. Thanks for the instruction videos
Stephanie Robinson indeed, and if you need more help go to kerryskamp.com
This is really nice and fly, Kerry! Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to start working on this.
Well Done My Brother, Less Is More !!
Love this song heading over to your site
This channel is the Neo Soul Express Lane
This is extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for this!
Crazy crazy crazy
Truth be told this is exactly what I need to learn this song but this is like guitar fractions and I'm still learning adding and subtracting. Saved and followed!!!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Dope lesson... I completely agree with playing the space and not over doing it with this song. I used to have that issue when playing it. I think we fall into that trap a lot of the time thinking that we need add as many fills as possible when its not needed. Literal example of less is more.
mychal burnette true!!
Great lesson about the approach. The concept of ”space”. Will you add chief diagrams on the screen? Your videos are framed closer and helps a lot.
Mr. Kerry, you're a great player and teacher. Over the years I've learned different songs (R&B...Rock) on guitar, however, I'm still trying to figure out how to compliment chords with smooth licks like you did in the lesson...Ase!
damn, I was just lookin up how to play that song and it says you uploaded this vid 50min ago... thank you!
WilliamsBirne1 good deal
I love this
I recently was listening to Crusin by D’Angelo, it’s his cover of Smokey Robinsons song. The track version has some really dope guitar embellishments with an “Wah” affect on them. I was wondering if you could do a lesson on them? I feel like it’s right up your alley. Thank you man, love your work 🙏🏽
great lesson man!
Sick vid, hope you do more d’angelo
I feel i get more just watching you play.
demejiuk good deal!
