Not a permanent fix, but here's a tip for if you're trying to get rid of a bunch of fruit flies at once because the numbers are getting out of control and are driving you crazy. First, lather your hands (gloved if you please) with soap, making sure it's a nice fluffy lather. Now chase those little demons down by swiping your soapy hand at them, plucking them out of the air. Grab at them wildly like a cat. The soap will stop them from flying off your hand, and then you can just rinse them off and wash your hands again. You're welcome xx

The fruit flies around your plants might actually be fungus gnats 😭 usually cutting back on watering helps and/or vinegar traps around the plants! They can b a real bitch tho…..

for your fruitfly troubles: put some apple cider vinegar, sugar and dishsoap in a bowl and then full it up with warm water to help dissolve the sugar. set bowls filled with this mixture wherever you see them the most, so where your plants are, in the kitchen, etc. the bowl should have a layer of bubbles, hence why i said put all of the ingredients in before you add the water so it lathers up, cuz the flies will be attracted to the sugar and vinegar but will die in the bubbles! homemade trap :) i get fruit flies a lot in the summer and this is how i deal with them. you'll have to change the bowl out daily until they're gone though

hey shawn my housemates and i recently had a fruit flies infestation too but we managed to get rid of them all within a few days!! i genuinely must have had 50 or more in my room alone. what we did was put mugs/pots around the house with a combo of water, apple cider vinegar and washing up liquid. they're attracted to the vinegar, get trapped in the washing up liquid, and then drown in the water

Heat some red wine vinegar in a bowl until its a bit warm and fragrant, then add a little bit of dish soap. A lot of the flies will be go into the bowl and die. And if you pour boiling water down all your drains a few times a day it should help reduce them, cause they lay their eggs in drains (and also any food thats available to them). I had them last summer and they drove me crazyyyyyy.

FRUIT FLIES ARE MY BANE. Anyway two recommendation:
1. Store all fruit food waste in the freezer (I use a tupperware like bucket) until you are throwing it out. This is really what stopped my problem, haven't seen any since.
2. To catch current fruit flies, mix apple cider vinegar with dish soap, put plastic wrap ontop of it and poke tiny holes. They're be attracted to go in but can't get out.

fruit flies take about 3 months to get rid of. I use double sided sticky paper from amazon and place them in the soil of each plant. This makes it so they stick to the paper and die. And i had hydrogen to the water when i water them. Make sure the plants you bring in the house dont have fruit flies in them. That's how they spread. And overwatering makes them thrive, so extend watering times as much as possible.

I have also had some fruit fly infestations, what we do is make traps for them so like you cut off the top to a plastic bottle or something and then put a fruit (like the core of an apple is usually good) and put it at the bottom, then you make a long funnel out of paper and stick it into it (the small side toward the apple) and then tape paper around it so the only entrance/exit is the funnel. They get entranced by the fruit but are too stupid to get back out so it usually helps. They suck so bad so I feel your pain

tip for how to get rid of fruit flys: leave a cup of orange juice with dishwasher detergent overnight where the fruit flys are and by morning they usually all go into the cup and drown 💋

To get rid of fruit flies you can mix hydrogen peroxide and water in a 3:1 ratio and water your plants with them ONCE THEY NEED WATERING!!! They often come when the plants are overwatered because the larvae need to moisture.

These insects are fungus gnats resulting from overwatering your plants. You've got to kill the larvae by watering your plants with a 1:3 ratio H2O2:H20 solution. I suggest waiting until your plants feel slightly limp and dehydrated like old produce before you water them. This becomes more frequent as it gets warmer and your plants begin to grow faster in the spring and require more resources but for now in the winter water sparingly.
We had a bad fruit fly infestation once, use used apple cider vinegar with like a dash of dawn dish soap on it it worked sooo well. Put it in a lil dish only a little bit and they get stuck
