Agreed the best is from south east asia, sepak is kick in malay & takraw is rattan ball in thai. The game also known as sipa in tagalog. In this region you kick the rattan ball by flipping your body. My respect to South Korea & Japan which managed to catch up very fast eventhough it was not their traditional game, they are now a strong contender, and don't forget Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippine and Singapore as a worthy opponents.

I remember getting bruises from playing this game in the late 70's and early 80's..the ball then was made from thick rattan and varnished..damn hard. Blocks are only with legs and feet. You'll get a nice bruising if you get hit on the back. We wear headbands to lessen the pain from headers. Shoes are always the high cut type..most common are the 'Warrior' brand of shoes, kind of the Malaysian version of high cut Converse. Can't get them now..sigh

    the rule:
    1) avoid the ball from touching the ground
    2) make sure to strike the ball to the other side of the court within three moves (kinda like volley ball)
    3) unlike volley ball, one player can execute all three moves by himself
    4) hands are not allowed
    that's it

Sepak Takraw is a traditional sport originated by the Malay and popular in the Malay Nusantara Archipelago. The sport have been around since more than 500 years ago. The meaning “ Sepak is kickinig “ the ball call Takraw and the balll was made by meterial of rottan. That also use to call it Sepak Raga which is the ball is smaller than Takraw.. The organisation council and committee “Sepak Takraw Association “ was formed by the Perses tAssociation in Singapura and have decided that to include Sepak Takraw sport to participate into ASEAN Game just like Olympic Games. And now the game was so increasingly famous and popular even countries like Korea, Japan and many others also participate in this traditional sport.

Takraw peak it popularity in Indonesia back to early 2000's. After around 2010 this game slowly disappear, so many takraw fields are replaced by badminton or voleyball. Since that, its very rare to see people play this sport on public. What a nostalgic for me to see people reacting to Takraw nowadays..

Lol @ I couldn't do that whether there was a ball there or not 🤣
BTW, a team (Malaysia: regu) consists of a server at the back, a feeder at one wing in the front, and a killer at the other wing up front.
To serve, the feeder (or killer) will toss the ball at the server who will kick it once over the net into the opponent's court, hitting the net in the way is alright, no retake of service required.
Thereafter, each team has a max of 3 hits to get the ball back over the net into the other team's court.
The standardised ball that you see being used nowadays is made of tough woven nylon, and yes it's hollow in the middle. The ball used before as in up to the 90s I think, was made of hard woven rattan, God help your forehead if you have to do a header too many times in one game! 🤣🤪🤕 And your ankle too, if the ball hits you right there, oh God!!
During school, soccer and takraw were my favorite games every afternoon. And being a specky 😎 I have had my frames or lenses repaired or changed numerous times from playing takraw!

I'll explain to you on you question.
    - why did he kicked this?
Because his teammate had touch the ball while blocking and if the ball hit the ground, point will be given to opponent.
    - double back block.
I realised that Korean team love to do that technic. They are new to this game but getting better.
    - you can pass to yourself.
Yes, takraw is not like volleyball, you can pass & set the strike ball to yourself.
    - the ball.
Its syntetic plastic. Long time ago, they use rattan to make the ball.

The ball can be "touched" a maximum of 3 times and it has to cross the net.

Body conditioning is the worst part with this game. Stretching your legs and learning how to back flip kick and aim and mainta8n a stand up posture everytime.

Like volleybal, the team only has 3 touches. But you are allowed to pass the ball to yourself, unlike volleyball. And you pronounce "RAW" in "TAKRAW" the same as you pronounce "COW".. I used to play this when i was in 5th grade. But i do not do flips. Its hard. And the ball is made of woven RATTAN. Its a vine/wood commonly found in South East Asia. Its hollow inside but hurts like hell if you get hit in the face. But nowadays you can buy plastic takraw balls.
