    Awesome!! This video is so well done, the explanations of the whole process....just so good! If it were fall/winter, I'd go out and transplant my few fig trees right now and inspect my roots for that girdling at the same time. They will have to wait until dormancy now though, I don't want to shock them. I had no idea you could trim up some of those roots but going forward I'm going to be checking that for the best soil, root connection and ensuring they aren't going in circles around the pots. Thank you for sharing your craft. Wish I'd seen this video 3 years ago, totally would have participated in the cutting giveaway.....great idea.

    Hello Charles
    I started flowing you recently and immediately fell in love in products that you are offering. I moved from San Diego to San Antonio because I always wanted my own garden. We could not afford to buy house in San Diego... However I am excited to share some pictures in next few days on my Instagram page. Thanks to your generous knowledge I decided to buy and plant some Figs and Lemons. So far I have Celeste fig and Mayer improved lemon tree on top of some other fruit and vegetables I planted earlier this year. I am excited for new upcoming videos and can't wait to use IV Organic products on my fruit trees. I always believed in organic gardening. Cheers .

    Charles. Per your recommendation, I have used equal proportions of perlite and vermiculite to root three fig cuttings on November 9, 2021, and I’m pleased to let you know that they have developed extensive root systems and several healthy looking large leaves. Also, I’ve used your two-cup method and have discovered that they require a lot of water as the bottom cup dries out every other day after I water them. I do have two questions, one directly related to this effort and another that is tangentially related that I hope you might indulge me with answers.
    1. When should I consider transplanting these cuttings in my garden?
    2. I have bought a couple of pruners in the past that I have been totally disappointed in. In another one of your videos discussing pruning fig trees with BareRoot Nation, I saw you using a pair of hand pruners so effortlessly to make me jealous. Could you please share with me what they are? If for some reason you are not able to provide that information, could you make a recommendation on a good pair of pruners that are reasonably priced? Thank you so much.

    I'm just starting with fig cuttings, I received some cuttings ( Golden Riverside, and Cor de Dame noir ) and have been looking for good soil medium ideas, I really like this mix presented in this video. I do have a concern regarding the time of the year, I am in South Fla. so its warm most of the year, only the occasional cold front brings us down to lower 50s or upper 40s for a day or two in our "harsh" winters. will I be ok, starting these cuttings now in Sept. ? we still have a couple months or so before any "cold" hits, and I can bring them indoors, if that is an issue.

      Either way because you don't have to worry so much about wood rot or mold on an air layer. So, might as well try to get some extra nutrients in the new root system.

    Thanks for this video. Do you just leave your fig cuttings inside the house without the film or plastic container as shown in the last part of the video in the red solo cups? Also is there a foolproof way that I can water it so that I don't overdue it? Earlier in the video you had the small brown container with the cutting in it sitting in water. Will it get enough water sucking up through it that way? Thanks so much.

    Great video! Question....When will I know the time to plant my fig cutting ....when leaves appear or at 5--6 weeks after initially planting the fig cutting? Also, when and how do I fertilize the rooting cutting? I've had some early fig leaves wilt and I'm afraid this is due to running out of nutrition? I ordered both of your fertilizers and when can I start them with both the initial cuttings and after I transplant the cutting into a larger pot. I would love to try the long neck fig and the black mission fig here in Florida!!! You have great videos...thank you.

    • @mytech6779
      @mytech6779 3 года назад

      The leaves will not wilt from a lack of fertilizer. The roots probably died or were stunted, or the humidity was too low for the initial amount of roots. Maybe low root temperatures caused root death? Fertilizer problems will show up as yellowing or slow growth later on, at that point use a mild complete fertilizer, whether compost tea or soluble commercial fert.
      Sometimes its just luck, which is why scientific tests use many replications.

    I would flip a lid if cutting arrived with damp paper towels in contact with the cuttings . It rotted 4 cuttings w/in 30 days. I will never ever use vermiculite again as a rooting medium . I had 100% vermiculite so dry it registered in the red on as moisture meter . Mix 50/50 out of the Vigro bag with the other 50% of blotted (blotted with paper towels and cardboard) and the cuttings still rotted . I wouldnt dream of of pouring water into the soil substitute as IVorganics shows here. Perlite . That same brand Vigro perlite retains moisture way too well . It does not drain well . At best the powder needs to be sifted out of the perlite. Clay pebbles or even gravel would be a better choice
    Rooting hormone is 99. 97% not rooting hormone but that .3% hormone is not the major benifit of rooting powder but the antibaterical powder is the major benifit. . Cinnamon, honey benifit is its antibacterial properties. There is no rooting hormone in those to two. Every thing about this video smacks of product sales and less of successful rooting of cuttings. IV organics did a cuttings rooting video 4 years ago that video made more sense that this promotion

      It is 0.3% (3000ppm) because 100% is not directly usable. No different than a 1 gram pill that contains 10mg of a drug, 10mg pills would be the size of a grain of sand and impossible for a typical user to handle. Even in professional labs rooting hormones are typically diluted to between 50ppm(0.005% and 10,000ppm(1%) depending on the particular specie, use case, and application method.
