This is perfect timing! Delay jab is the main thing I was planning to practice next to level up my game. Just hit 1600 MR and I'm realizing that in order to maintain or exceed that, I seriously need to improve my defense. Love the chill, clear and concise explanations!
The amount of tech i was unaware of and got taught for first time by you is absolutely insane. I'm going back and forth between diamond 3 and 4 at the moment and did not know this (amongst so many other things 😅) Thanks for all the great content Chris!
I love your videos man, I just got SF6 and in my first 2 days placed Silver5 as Rashid but now I'm getting my ass kicked by everyone and when I was looking for stuff to implement in my game early I found your guides and they've been so helpful to me
Great video as always. One suggestion though: for this sort of stuff where it's important to get the timing of a button just right, I feel like it would be helpful to have the on-screen button overlay that shows what you're pressing and when.
Great video -1 light tick throw beat >= 3 frames delay Characters with -1 frame tick throw: Dhalsim 5LP GUILE 5LK HONDA 5LP / 2LP JAMIE 2LP JP 2LP JURI 2LP / 2LK KEN 5LP / 2LP LILY 2LP RYU 5LP / 2LP I don't have the DLCs ( if someone want to send me a gift🎁) -1 frame lights that can possibly lead to tick throw : Rashid 5LP? / 2LP? / 5LK? / 2LK? A.K.I. 5LP? / 2LP? ED 2LP? AKUMA 5LP? / 2LP? M.Bison 5LK? Blanka, Cammy, Kimberly, Manon, Marisa, Zangief don't have -1 lights so 2~3 frames delay jab is pretty strong against them. Unfortunately this isn't busted as I thought but I learned some good thinks while labbing . If your character have a -1 light tick throw so your opponent can't delay more than 2 frames to interrupt you. Mixing -2 lights, jab low jab, low jab jab..., are pretty good at catching your opponent delay mashing. I'm currently playing Juri, so 5LP > 2LK > 2LP > 214MK beats 2f or lower mash, 2LK/2LP tick throw against 3f or higher mash, and 2LK fuzzy walk to bait delay tech.
If I set the cpu to jab on a 3f delay on block they get counter hit thrown when I go for tick throw. If I delay the tick throw by a few frames the situation in this video occurs where if you mash you get normal hit and frame trapped if the opponent staggers lights, but if you delay jab you get the CH and block staggered lights. It seems to me that a delay tech would cover tick throw and staggered lights, but get blown up by shimmy, while this would cover shimmy and staggered lights, but lose to tick throw. And a 2 frame delayed fuzzy jab would cover tick throw, shimmy, and a true blockstring, but lose to a frame trap.
Hey, I have a question. I'm relatively new to fighting games, with just under 120 hours of playtime so far. I’ve noticed an issue with my inputs-sometimes when I press a button or perform a command, it doesn’t register, almost like the input gets “eaten.” When I slow down my inputs, the commands execute more reliably, but that risks my opponent escaping the combo or pressure. I’ve observed more experienced players, and their input timing actually matches what I was doing initially before I started slowing down. I decided to break it down and take it one button at a time to figure out what’s going on. It seems like there's a slight delay, almost like a millisecond gap, between my inputs. So, here’s my question: We’re both using the same leverless controller, but your inputs seem to register much quicker than mine. What could be causing this issue? Just to clarify, I have a solid PC, and I’m experiencing the same results in the training room, so I don’t think it’s an internet issue.
I think it could be because you’re pushing too fast and you aren’t pushing the button all the way down. That would explain why you get it when you go slow. Hard to say without seeing your inputs though
@@Chris_F Thank you for the response. Apparently, i was mostly getting that issue with manon for whatever reason, which is sad because i hoped to main her. Other characters work as intended.
Love these defense videos, this is a weakness in my gameplay I'm working on. I'm trying to figure out how to rotate between delay jab and delay tech. Generally, is the strategy to go for delay jab when your opponent is + on block? And delay tech when they're in throw range ?
what's the difference between using delay jab vs delay crlk? the low kick catches them if they walk backwards, what's the benefit of jab if it loses to that?
Is it like a better version of delay throw tech ? I'm not sure I understand when to go for one or the other, as I feel delay jab does everything better.
Certain characters have only got 4 frame normals while standing so I guess using lows to counter would be good right? Or can they use 5 frame fuzzy attacks? Also a lot of people seem to catch me with mediums to interrupt jabs, what can I do then as I can't get out of range and I'm minus 2 so their medium basically becomes a 4 frame startup? Thanks for your vids as always man,, your channel is always good for teaching everyone this stuff at all levels
Really hard to answer this in a RUclips comment since there are a lot of variables that change what you need to do. I’ll take a look at your replays on stream if you like, it’ll be easier for me to show you and chat that way
@@Chris_F wow man that's really cool of you thank you, I don't know if I can get much time to be there I only really get a couple of hours late at night to play games or watch streams but I'd love to if I can. you can only hit them once with a jab if they are blocking they can counter you if you keep jabbing, unless you DR into jab you can hit them 2 times on block before they can counter you. you are most likely doing jab jab jab every time whether they block or get hit and they picked up on your habits. you need to change things up like jab, move back or jab, throw. jab, delay jab to counter their tech throw ect. dont just keep jabbing to get out of face to face situations.
@@nomaschalupas2453 hey man thank you for your reply, I might not have explained very well but basically I land a single jab then they immediately hit me with crmp since after jab I'm minus 2 and there's no way to walk back out of range from it, the crmp being 6 frames is basically a 4 frame at that point so it beats everything and even if I do crlp x3 or crlk etc I'm still not able to get out of range, and trying to parry is a big risk because they might just throw me. You're right though, it's important to mix up between using jabs and waiting and using throw and maybe u can use staggered light attacks to catch people out too
@@remylebeau34 there are many situations but the specific one you are talking about you have to either not jab in the first place or if they keep pressing buttons after you jab, then its up to you to either try and perfect parry it, they might throw you but if they are already hitting you with a medium they can basically do a full high damage combo so a throw is going to be less damage. also can just block after jab, if they dont DRC then its your turn again since the only reason they can land a hit is if you are still attacking after the first jab, or even DP if you really think they will press a button after jab but this one has to be a hard read and actually the most dangerous choice, not parry. there's stilll really no one answer because its up to you to read the person you are fighting and apply choices based off what habits they have.
Since jab does not come out during the throw animation, but you have 11f window during the throw animation to tech the throw, is it possible to input jab followed by throw tech to cover both options?
@@Chris_F If possible then it would be extremely useful, because then it would be almost as the same as delay tech in SF4 where you get a light attack, which is much safer than whiffing a throw. Cr lk attacks are usually 5F startup so they’re slower than a 4F cr lp making the timing harder to option select

In reversal after guard, play with the delay settings for cr LP - alternate from a 1-4f delay
