  • The beloved lyricist Alan Bergman has contributed countless treasured songs to the Great American Songbook and music for American film. Along with his wife and creative partner, former ASCAP President Marilyn Bergman, Alan won Oscars for the songs "The Windmills of Your Mind" (from The Thomas Crown Affair) and the title song from The Way We Were (both also received Golden Globe awards, and "The Way We Were" earned two Grammys). They also received an Oscar for the score for Yentl. In this interview, composer and ASCAP Board member and Writer Co-Chair Dan Foliart (known for his enduring theme and score for shows like Home Improvement, Roseanne, Bosom Buddies, 7th Heaven and Carol & Company) chats with Alan about the legacy of his body of work, on writing songs with his late wife and his fruitful career in music.
