he plays a G major chord in which his first finger plays the G on the lowest string and also mutes the second string...the top four strings are allowed to resonate openly. of course, this is really a G-flat major chord, since this version is tuned down half a step. this is the same chord Kurt plays in Polly during the chorus, though nobody on youtube plays it this way. hope this helps!

I liked Kurt's sense of humor he was very funny..I wish he was still here with us now...but someday we will all be where he is and that thought can be relieving sometimes...so enjoy the present though I know that can sometimes be close to impossible
