I’m waiting on the second season where Bam is living that *THUG* life
I know it’s *FUG* you don’t have to correct me
Thug when away from Rachel back to simp when near her.

@@EVERYWHERE_MAN It's actually PUG
I don’t know this „Bam“ you speak of, I only know our lord and savior jue viole grace
The difference between webtoon and Anime was smaller than with many other adaptations. The only thing that really bugged me was the pacing. In the Manwah it feels like they spend months together and are a proper class. In the Anime it feels, as if they went on a weekend seminar
My feelings exactly.
Just saw it last weekend and I totally see what you mean. I did not, in the slightest, think that they've spent months together in those trials.
I literally thought they'd spent a couple of days together and was so confused as to why they actually cared about each other.
I wouldn't say so. They literally changed the personality of some characters or made them act out of character in a lot of scene. Which is a thing that is rarely seen in most adaptations.
@@Thehunter9th It's probably because I watched the anime first and read the Webtoon only until the end of Season 1. I didn't notice big differences when I read the Webtoon. It might have been overshadowed by the big difference that I did notice, that there is actually time for bonding in the Webtoon.
I think that Tower of God is the best of the Crunchyroll original webtoon adaptations (though that isn't really saying much is it?)
Yes its better than GOH
@Mr Grimm Noblesse legit skipped the entire first arc of the story, such a shame because Noblesse was the one I was looking forward to the most.
@@manasannugu2568 while i agree, i think they did a great job. since they didn't have the hype train rushing things, it came out well. the first part was done in a poorly done movie that was rushed like GOH and TOG.
@@manasannugu2568 While I like Noblesse Anime more then GoHS Anime, I feel like it suffers from one thing: Plot. After all these episodes I still don’t know what the Plot is. Where is it going? If I read it I feel like I’ll have my answer
@@manasannugu2568 Noblesse didn't skip it. You can watch it in the OVA. They just didn't feel the need to redo it. Personally, I think Noblesse does a much better job than the 3, mainly because Noblesse doesn't have as many moving parts as TOG and GOH, and its plot can be neatly abridged without making things feel like it's going too quickly since it's part "slice-of-life".
TOG and GOH both have long prologues, and in GOH's case, the messy writing was already there even in the manhwa in the first main arc. Noblesse > Tower of God >>>>>>>>>>>>>God of High School, in terms of anime.
"What was Princess Yuri doing on the first floor, and why did she take an interest in Bam? Is it because he's an irregular?"
They cut out her entire conversation explaining her reasons in the anime. This is why fans were pissed with the adaptation we got.
Yes
I read 200 chapters of the webtoon and dont remember it, can you explain it?
@@tehsigzorz7885 It was indeed because she had gotten information about an irregular having entered the tower, so she came to take a look at him.
@@XTheJaws yo wasn’t that seen like way after the initial gate opening? Like towards the second half of the first season?
@@deathgazereaper2130 No, it is in the second chapter when we see Yuri and Evan descending down to the bottom.
Always felt that ToG got way more harsh criticism than it deserved. I loved the art style, the OST and the intrigue of the story, world and characters so much that I went on to read the webtoon just to find out more about them. And that says a lot because I read very little manga and manhwa.
I agree. People need to give Tower of God more credit.
sorry I know this comment is old but I just had to complain, I haaaaaaated the OP and the ED so much 😭😭😭 the anime itself it's pretty okay, definitely not as good as I hoped it would, but I agree I love the art style, and as a manwha reader I understand the context that may not inherently be in the anime, BUT the OP and the ED were SO DISAPPOINTINGGGG IT HURT ME.
I hated the op so much because it's just a PowerPoint of this weird song they chose, Bam like screaming in the void, falling on his ass, and just trampling around instead of a super cool showcase of ALL the characters like most shounen do! it felt like a no brainer, you had ONE JOBBB 😭😭 and the ED is also just as uninspired imo.
I hope this anime gets a different producer next season that can truly bring the anime to new heights and give it the effort it deserves 😢
@@venusdevotea9378 tbh I think they purposefully made the op and Ed like that to mirror each other with bam and Rachel. Maybe for s2 op it’ll be different
13 ep limit to all 3 webtoons was very disappointing.
You can tell how much JP gives a shit about Manwha stories.
@@KhanMann66 Well first of all, the animation companies aren't the ones that decide on episodes, it's the committees. TOG was funded by Naver (which is technically the Korean Google), Crunchyroll amongst others. Also actually since the anime of TOG I have seen a significant growth of Japanese fans on social media, so the story has been getting traction. It also made it to the Top 10 list of most watch shows, on Netflix in Japan
@@5yenwishes590 really? hopefully japan fully takes over or something
Pretty sure if they fully animate the second season of the manhwa things will change a lottttt like a lott
They need 24 episodes like that new spider anime from Crunchyroll also step up the animation for the fights and it’s a solid 9/10
Only problem i really had was the end of the season. if i remember, bam was straight up confused, and full of despair because he was straight up betrayed, he lost all hope and drive in the webtoon
but the anime made bam even more shonen and gave him that “i’m not gonna give up” kind of feel but oh well, i hope we can get another season because i’d really love to see season 2 be animated, even if it’s just the very first chapter of season 2
Because they went thus way the introduction of JVG will be weird. Like they didn't give the regulars rings, so is blackmail nolonger a thing? Now he's badass without reasn.
@@dtk1981 yeah, they kinda shot them selves in the foot here x_x
@@dtk1981 The could retcon the rings without problems in a shoet flashback, but yeah, baam is endearing becaue he isnt straight up badass but just a nice kid, literally mentally. I like they let him grow at an organic pace in season 2.
And then season 2 gets animated and it looks like THAT
The only two gems left after ToG anime are Kevin Penkin who wrote fantastical soundtracks, and Tanino Miho who took charge of character designing and later became a huge fan of ToG and consistently presenting awesome fanarts on Twitter.
Lol all of his criticism about Bam are absolutely correct, but it does get better, much, much better
that's all tog blind fans say it will be better it will be better n when u reach at it just felt filler added to deviate. khun is best character has lot shades bam is bland .
MAJOR Spoiler warning
The twist with Rachel ( fuck Reachel) makes Bam feel upto the point he finds out more a commentary on traditional Shonen protegenists fighting ridiculous odds for ultimately flimsy reasons. Like HunterxHunter's search for a deadbeat Dad
So part of that is his total lack of agency
@@amdryzen1630 I agree Bam is bland and straight up said it lol. I'm caught on the comic, and Bam's back story is fleshed out and is given his own motivations, so it's not blind faith, it's just a fact lol. It just takes a long time.
i disagree
for me the first arc was by far the best in all of ToG
the only arc that was concluded by proper writing and not senseless powercreep
Yeah, Bam is a painfully uninteresting character until almost midway into season 2. It's a good thing the supporting casts are interesting enough to offset the hole that is Bam. I still think the manhwa needs an editor because while the anime underexplained some things, the manga overexplains a lot. I'm glad that SUI finds his creation interesting enough to want to share almost every aspect of it, but please, tone down the worldbuilding explanations a bit. We can always find out later.
Tower of God is a real slow burn. Season 1 isn't a accurate representation of the story. Its like using the hunter exam arc to explain all of hunter x hunter. It takes a while for us to learn about Bam's history. Its kind of built like One piece imo.
Absolutely right
What you are saying is, skip the anime go for the webtoon?
May I ask has the Webtoon ended?
@@petraleong The webtoon is currently on Hiatus, Honestly,The art in season 1 of the Webtoon is pretty bad, so you may want to watch anime and read webtoon side by side. But the art progressively becomes amazing. You have to give TOG time to expand, The world building is intresting.
@@nox2281 I don't mind "bad" art, but I think I only want to start when the story is about to end, I prefer to binge with a ending.
@@petraleong Let's say, Tower of God Is One piece, The current spot in the manwha would be like Fishman-Punk Hazard. And its On Hiatus right now aswell. Its pretty far in though enough to tide you over for a long time.
I'll admit the twist at the end actually got me. And that added to the value for me. Normally I'm pretty good at predicting "subversions" and twists.
They tried so hard to make you sympathize with her in the anime. take out the crying and second guessing and slap in a bucket full of jealously and pettiness. She didnt cry and bow to headon. She threw a hissy fit and botched about her destiny being stolen.. Thats the rachel we got in s1. There was no foreshadowing or snake eyes. She just straight up ghosted him. The push was a shock because it was so unexpected. The anime made her so sus and the advertising spoiled it for a lot of people.
To b fair the author make her some sympathies , that probably make it just worse, in season 2, intentionally to make people love hate her, i guess, i cant say she isnt human, just the worst. But yeah that was unexpected.
People just ruined the "twist" in every fucking comment section. lol
@@Mykasan that too. I'm a reader(my comment made that obvious) and it was painful to see. I mean keep it to yourself, don't ruin it for others. The show was ok, but the experience still shouldn't be ruined.
@@Mykasan I don't look at anime media until the season's wrapped up usually. I just pick a few interesting titles from the new release lists with no prior knowledge. Some hype gets through, but I manage to stay pretty impartial.
at the risk of sounding like a mahnwa supremacist i would say if only he knew Bam after the time Gap.
But that's not what the video is about. Not that I don't 100% agree with you. But he clearly states that he wanted to review the anime and the anime only. Even if all the characters get fleshed out later and Bam becomes a much better character, I do agree that he seemed like a standard shonen protag who just gets ordered around in the anime.
So yeah I think saying "Read the mahnwa" or "the manwha is a lot better" are valid things to say, but it doesn't change the rushed and shallow nature of the anime.
@@xZeryu I've never read the manwha, and I'm only halfway through the anime, but it doesn't seem like Bam is meant to be likable yet. It feels like they're trying to make him as uninteresting and inactive as possible so that the ostensible character shift feels like a real 180 degrees.
I feel like that could work if the show had an incredible cast of characters, but it just doesn't. From my perspective, most are very forgettable.
I think he knows how Bam ends up after the time skip. It doesn't means that the current show isn't lacking with it being only 13 episodes though.
@@DanielZeal I mean kinda? The point is that Bam has to grow into his own person with his own ideas and personality (thankfully that happens). Although beginning of season 2 Bam is fucking awesome.
@@DanielZeal finally someone who understands . In the prologue he is supposed to be naive and easily manipulated . Like for gods sake suffering from amnesia literally knowing nothing but your name THEN transferred to this huge world and complex test systems only to be labeled an irregular . Like it makes sense why he is bland and all that just adds to the flavor of season 1 . It takes us through bams shoes we all don’t know anything about this world all equally naive and endearing . That only adds up the hype for more world building which occurs later on . A perfect setup for a rather complex system that can’t be easily explained
Out of all the webtoon that was animated, tower of god was the only one I like, I wish that the pacing was better near the end, I don't know what crunchyroll was trying to do. But the webcomic is awesome.
don't worry there is an upcoming webtoon named omniscient reader viewpoint it will have more than 500 chaps it has a light novel the best korean novel plot.
@@amdryzen1630 I'm reading it now, and I'm falling in love with it.
@@amdryzen1630 But the novel becomes kind of boring after the first 300 or so chapters.
@@amdryzen1630 I'm never giving another korean novel a shot, everyone that's been turned into anime has been trash.
Well I can say the same.....
I mean God of Highschool got Butchered.
And I know that while having NOT read the Source Material!!
Honestly, the problems with the show probably would’ve been solved with a two cour season.
I feel for each of the webtoon adaptations there’s a lack of confidence in the audience because in each of their bts videos crunchyroll does for them the staff blatantly says that they pick parts/adapt it in a way they believe the audience will enjoy in the limited episode count. They believe if they were more faithful it’d be slow, wouldn’t get anywhere , and ultimately uninteresting.
stay faithful please my brodda
Which is so funny, because if you think a comic is SO uninteresting, than why are you adapting it in the first place?
Yeah they it definitely Seems like they dont want to try because of the possibility of it failing but then it fails anyway.
@@shiteyanyo1111 because none of it is uninteresting, everything that was adapted was the most interesting of it all
@@shiteyanyo1111 The first part is a little slow, but the pace greatly increases as you go on. The issue with this adaptation was that it skipped key details that are relevent later on in the show, and in greatly watered down the details that it did show.
a lot of things can be answered when you put the first season (the floor of test) as a prologue to the actual story.
Vinland Saga is also a prologue, but absolutely stellar on it's own too.
@kamen rider evolt And also loosing a lot of explaination and bonding, GOHs strengh is that it actually gives it support characters background and well character. Dunno why they get so short episodes to cover a pretty long season. And to be fair GOH is simpler, but there are bonding left out, that the author can keep a reason why the support cast is there.
@@tt-cy1hb I really hope they do rachel justice and let hr push the same buttons, again, painfully, that she is hated so much her name alone will her her plenty of hate love. I hope they do that justice, as weird as it sounds, to sell baam growing.
It bothers me when people say that Yuri gave the black march for no reason other than him being cute, it is true that main reason is that she found him cute BUT Yuri went to met him for the only reason that she knew an irregular enter the tower, so yeah the part of Baam being an irregular is big aswell...
why would it bother you, it's what the show presented.
@@MrAndozu That's the point, It bothers us because there was actually more meaning to it. Also because it's the example most haters use to hate on the whole story. It's about first impressions for people who are unfamiliar with the material, and the anime didn't do a good job at conveying the actual reasons
@@5yenwishes590 Sometimes they also deliberately change the scenes in order to make it more main stream shonen..
@@akuost The problem is, it gets pretty shounen, That just wasnt baams season, it set up him and did develope his closest relationships, but thats not baams season. More khuns aanaks and endorsis. The problem is it is a prologue, not a shounen, that is season 2 forward.
Yeah but that wasn’t really included in the anime
This is an amazing review! As a channel that has been heavily following Tower of God (Manhwa) It's so nice to hear that you can still see the potential and stand out moments of this story, even though the anime does drop the ball with the pacing and depth that these characters who are so much more well-rounded than your typical shounen protagonist have. The anime does still manage to capture the feel of intrigue of the world of ToG but doesn't have the time to tell the story correctly.
People used to tell us while we were watching the anime that we should "just read the manhwa" However and even now as people who have read some of the manhwa, we shouldn't have to. Tower of God really is such a great and unique story that the only thing you have to do right in order for it to work in any adaptation is give the story the time it needs. We love anime and we shouldn't have to be telling people that if they want to really experience this great story to just go read the manhwa. The anime should be able to do the same thing, which is why it's so frustrating that this adaptation exists.
I watched anime first and I fell in love of the show it is just that good and because it has such amazing art and sound/music/VAs it really hit the spot for me personally and re watched it 4 times since it ended and that is something I never done before. I also started reading because and honestly I don't think season 1 of manhwa is superior to anime because I can't fault anime for having only 13 episodes they had to cut the corners but managed to accomplish everything also it setts up season 2 pretty well so everything that was missed can be easily
explained later so there is no reason to dwell on it.
Also show manged a lot of stuff better. in manhwa fight scenes and art were so bad I had no idea what is going on and way shinsu looks is weird as fuck to a point you don't see anything while show managed to make it looks amazing and those sound effects are just icing on the cake. Then we have some character differences like Lero ro is way more interesting in anime without those weird outburst. Then I felt like endorsi and anak dialogues are better because they had to make compromise so it made it more interesting and had big impact on me.
I can go on about this for so long but my point is that anime in my opinion does live up to manhwa and exceeds it in some parts because it is animated/audio medium and that can make us feel way more. I think anime gets too much undeserved criticism and it for some reason pains me.
And this is why I never immediately jump onto hype trains. Looking at you, God of Midschool.
God of Highschool was a lot worse than Tower of God. Yes the animation and overall production values were stellar, but good lord the story was hilariously rushed.
GOD OF HIGHSCHOOL IS TRASH
This Is basically me but with MHA
TOG didn't get the best adaptation, but it was a lot better than GOH.
@@samurottman6832 tog webtoon is trash, goh webtoon lot better.
Bam does NOT have amnesia. He literally just hasn't had a life outside of that cave. Which I think people completely fail to realise as a defining feature of his: the traumatic experience of complete isolation, seemingly being trapped BY someone else without ever knowing why. Then he enters the tower and is used and manipulated by or targeted by every faction. Seeing his development isn't seeing someone who's had a full life go through newer experiences, it's seeing someone who's not really had a chance to develop his own goals sense of identity or anything thrust into situations where everyone else has an idea for who he should be and what he should do. It's one gigantic identity crisis which I love.
Bam lucked out of the test more than Leorio lucked out of the Hunter Exams! Luckily they both had a Killua to actually make sure they passed.
I would say that Baam is a very passive main character. He was literally born in a hole, and Rachel is the only person he has ever know. He is basically nobody.
He does take a much more active role starting in season 2.
In the hero's journey the end of the anime is Bam entering the magical world (separated from his friends and Rachel) so all you see of him in S1 is his character flaws. The rest of the series is about him overcoming his flaws, as per the hero's journey.
how so? I read it maybe a year ago and kind of forgot everything since the hiatus.
@@spacepillow Baam doesn't really do much on his own. What really propels him forward through the story are the characters he meets and the actions they take. His only motivation for going to the tower is to find Rachel.
I like Tower of God, but he is right there is alot missing and I wish Studios would allow the work they are creating to be fully done. Think of all the shows that got shafted due to this half hazard system.
My Hero Academia did just fine with a first season of 13 episodes, but My Hero Academia adapted 21 (including a double length one) chapters in 13 episodes.
Tower of God also had 13 episodes, but it covered 78 chapters. Those early Part 1 chapters are shorter than those of My Hero Academia, so adapting 44 chapters in 13 episodes would be the equivalent, but that means the pace was almost double what it was for My Hero Academia.
When the content suffers from such a pacing what gets cuts first is the world building, then the motivations of the character and important decisions they make, and finally the events. Here, the world building is almost entirely absent, the motivation of the characters are often absent or transfigured in favor of a simpler explanation (like "I gave him the sword because he's cute") and the events are mostly the same, with some slight differences.
But in itself, that doesn't matter. If the script writer and the director of the show are capable of modifying it and making it into a good product, even if it is fairly different from the source, that is fine. However, there are some serious issues in the direction that prevents this from being the case, ranging from action scenes lacking impact, to actions made by the characters no longer having any proper justification behind them, and passing by giving an anime-only death to a character to create tension, forgetting that was a change that you made and thus having him alive in the next episode, which ends up having the opposite effect on the tension that is felt.
wait, what was the anime-only death?
Only some minor characters.
Dede Kancho and Blarouge get eaten by the bull but are alive and well 2 episodes later.
There is also a dude called Yung Changsoo that gets multiple slash from Khun and then gets stabbed multiple times during the crown game and is just fine the next episode.
You're completely on point. Bam in S1 is hollow as hell, but that's kinda the point. Dude had literally no one to talk to except for a single girl in his entire life, its kinda obvious why he's so empty in S1. One of the key developments in Bam in S2 is him coming into realisation that he never properly makes any decisions for himself and he's always a puppet in someone else's game, and him slowly gaining an identity free of said control. But of course I don't know when or will they even adapt S2. Such is life.
Whether it was purposeful or not doesn't exactly excuse it though, in my opinion. What it really just seems like is lazy writing. Good characters start with character and progress from there, but it seems like Bam was written so that character development would be easy to write. This wouldn't be SO bad if other characters could carry for the protagonist until he develops as a person, take for example Vinland Saga where the protagonist spends most of S1 being an ignorant, edgy kid. But Askellad and the other characters of the story carry the show for him meaning the protagonists shortcomings aren't so blatantly obvious. But TOG has, for its entire first season, no good characters. The author tried too hard to make everything mysterious he didn't give enough information for the audience to actually care. Except for Rak whose just a typical comedic relief 'fighty' character we see all the time...
Point is, be it purposeful or not, it wasn't a good idea. Him being a blank slate character seems to have no real meaning other than for him to have obvious development, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't like to tell authors to do things differently, but it didn't work and didn't make sense. If the author is writing about a mysterious tower with a dark background, surely showing how it corrupts a protagonist is far more interesting in comparison to the protagonist actually needing to grow a personality within the tower. That's the sort of character that would work in a slice of life or shoujo series, not an action adventure. And while the character might be an utter blank slate, I still don't think it excuses my biggest problem with the mystery of the series in that it's far too artificial. Blank slate or not, Bam, or any other the other characters shown in the series, could ask each other typical questions about who they are and where they come from. But instead, characters act like talking about the world, the history or its characters is voodoo, and instead only every can talk about current events happening within the tower. This might make sense if every character lacked memories, but it's only Bam. I've read what the anime covered in the manhwa and it definitely does a better job, but I still didn't see the hype, personally.
even in Season 2 he's a dull character...
@@pagatryx5451 1) The first season has plenty of likeable characters. Whether or not you like them is upto your preferences. Khun was (and still is) a fan favourite, and for a lot of people he carried the first season. Aside from that, we have a lot of interesting and intriguing characters even in season 1 who were there to make up for Bam's emptiness. Your criticism here is purely based on taste.
2) Him being a blank slate has more to it than just development. For one, he's not a self insert, he does have a personality. However, his personality is underdeveloped, simple. Him being empty inside and gullible is thematically very much relevant to the tower itself, and to the characters around him.
3) If you mean backstory, we do get plenty of backstory about the two princess', Khun and the tower's structure for just 13 episodes. However, I do understand why you're perplexed about the fact that Bam himself isn't much interested or curious about others' backstory beyond what he needs to know to survive. That's just who he is, at least in season 1. He's an extremely simple character, he literally has no memory of his last life beyond a certain point, he's only ever had any social interaction with just a single girl, and his ego is still very much undeveloped and lacking. His questions are very simplistic in nature and he has a certain childlike innocence to him due to his upbringing.
4) You're talking about the tower corrupting the protagonist and forcing him to learn the realities of life, which is exactly the primary theme of the series. The finale of season 1 has Bam being betrayed by the person he cherishes the most due to the jealousy she has towards him. He is almost instantly taken up by a shady organisation after the betrayal. He is on the path towards corruption, it's a matter of how he tries to escape said corruption and walk the path of good regardless of the obstacles the tower throws at him.
I could talk more here, but that'd make me go further into spoiler territory of season 2 and 3. Look mate, I'm not gonna hate you for disliking ToG. I myself know the series has its fair share of issues, it's far from perfect. For example, I don't think One Piece is perfect either, I could write an entire essay on the problems it has (just like ToG). But both ToG and One Piece are some of my most favourite manhwa/manga, and I still enjoy re-reading them from time. If you want to have further conversation with me, read season 2, and then I'd be much happy to have one with you, I love to hear about criticisms more than praise (do give me your discord/WhatsApp or whatever messaging app you prefer cause RUclips is the shittiest place to have a conversation in, I hated writing this piece with this clunky UI).
@@RandomShowerThoughts well my friend, that's really just your opinion, and I'd be happy to rebuke it if you could give me the details, if you wanna talk with me about this further, we can take this somewhere else, I hate messaging on RUclips, it's not really user friendly :P

At this point I think the webtoon adaptations are just to promote the webtoons. It fells like there playing with us Cus there is potential in the tower of god anime but it might just be a high end ad for webtoons
Pretty much the impression I got
Issue with this is, does a rushed adaptation encourage more people to read the original? I'm not sure tbh. It does give the series more exposure, sure, but I think a lot of people watching the anime would just assume that the Webtoon is paced the same way, and just give it a pass. If they keep adapting Webtoons this way, it's just going to be more damaging to the original series imo. They're probably just testing the waters right now, but I feel like neglecting the pacing is the worse thing you could do when trying to compromise a character driven story.
Completely agree, there is so much potential for the anime, and honestly the anime is what led me into looking at the manhwa. It's just sad that 2 years later after season 1, there is no update about another season. I understand why adaptations often experience backlash but people need to realize that if it gets too much backlash instead of an opportunity to build on itself, it will just get killed off and we will never get to experience the story/content in another medium, which is unfortunate because I personally would have enjoyed watching it.
I will say that this show has one of the best first impressions I've ever seen in an anime. The first 5 or so minutes are magical with the narration from Rachel, the montage of the diverse cast of characters, the unique art style, awe inspiring music, that banger of an opening, and the scene after where Bam and Rachel enter the tower separately. It created such a mysterious and otherworldly atmosphere that hooked me immediately, and I was so ready to fall in love with this show. While the rest of the show is still pretty good, it never quite lives up to that beginning nor the hype surrounding the series due to being only 13 episodes a.k.a. the prologue. It honestly doesn't get truly interesting again until the twist with Rachel in the last two episodes, and by then it's already over with no continuation in sight.
I completely agree with you and as someone else said in the comments, it's like One Piece or HxH in the sense that it builds up slowly. Imagine if one piece only had gotten 13 episodes, we only would have gotten to Syrup Village, that would be just before Baratie where they met Sanji. That wouldn't have gotten too much of a fanbase when it's well known that One Piece really starts up at Arlong Park.

Can we get a s2 which is 24 episodes and a little bit slower paced.
S2 has to slow down because there’s even more plot to the show.
Tbh if they want to adapt entire s2 of webtoon then there should be 3 season with 25 ep each at least
That means they will cut a lot is season 2 if all that story really requires 2 seasons at 24ep each, ouch!
@TheOutkast4ever nah
I hope so I just finished S2 and there is so much content they should split it into 3 seasons if they plan it well.
Tower of God would have been perfect for Studio Pierrot that loves doing long running shows because they wouldn't need to create filler.
You are underestimating Pierrot, they woyld ruin it. bad animation and bad pacing. No thanks. Telecom animation is way better.
@@saphiyak2402 lmao Pierrot literary outsources everything to the possible worse studios, Boruto's face changes every month and some fights consist of 6 frames.
@@saphiyak2402You mean overestimating
I've read the source material roughly 3 times before the anime came out. Honestly I'm quite happy with what they put into the anime with the time that was allotted. Do I wish there were certain things that were included or adapted more accurately? Most definitely. But the animation was great, the music was phenomenal and the few additions and quality improvements they made while keeping the core story (broadly) unchanged made it enjoyable for me.
9:00 Except at the end of "season 1" in the webtoon, that's EXACTLY THE QUESTION HWA RYUN ASKS HIM! AND THE ANIME CUT THAT OUT TOO! A lot of the criticisms towards the story of the anime are just cut content from the webtoon that the anime studio decided it wouldn't be important
"it's almost as if he's a puppet to someones end" ... xD
also the questions you ask regarding bam are still too early, I understand their significance it's just too early to ask them.
I WAS SO SURPRISED WHEN I HE SAID THAT
It's just that they made 13 episodes and it is not enough
If you want to “watch” the second season, a channel called “dr bonehead” has chapter readings where they voice act the manhwa and it’s REALLY GOOD!
The attention to details in Tower of God (webcomic) is insane. It's the ONLY story that made me reread it several times and I HATE REREADING.
The problem with Bam being passive throughout the anime is the grand scale of the narrative. And that perspective is the biggest difference between Anime and Manwa fans. The Anime covered the equivalent of a forward, and the real story starts afterwards. Bam is a blank slate who finds his reason to go on his journey by the end of season 1. Literally the first step of narrative storytelling. No wonder the Anime feels like unfullilled potential.
Bam's literally a character in making during season 1 and I find that one of the most interesting.
Bam is the worst MC ever in a comic/manga/manhwa.... His level of naivete and stupid thrust is out of this world! Dont want to spoil anything, but damn!
I really hope some of the more obscure anime we were able to vote for get reviews someday. I feel like these shows in the review week of awesome were bound to get reviews anyway.
I feel like they skipped important info as they rushed the story along.
They did..
Yes they did.
Tower of God is long-Run Anime/animation series Material. But that means big investment in order to make it work as a series that will make profit for itself rather/at the same time boosting the manhwa sales. Because it really really relies on the details of the story.
As Arkada said, this is a story where plans and plans are made, literally a Kudzu plot, and Baam is the trigger of it. And I agree that Baam is the weakest element of the story, both in anime and source work, the story makes up by having it's worldbuilding and characters that keep you grabbed, while Bam evolves to be his own person. By the beginning of season 3, Bam has personality, but that becomes less important as so much shit has happened.
Believe me, it's not only a matter of the anime being rushed, the Web toon also just takes a long while to actually get genuinely good. I'm not familiar with the Manhwa though
Manhwa means comics/manga. When people say Manhwa, they're refering to the Webtoon.
I mean, it's ok to not know things but wtf did you expect manhwa to be? A drawn version that for some reason got adapted into another drawn version (webtoon)??? It's obvious they were refering to the same thing...
Yea, it gets good in season 2. But I'm pretty sure that the Webtoon is also the Manhwa. Dunno what you're talking about.
I'd argue that the first season of the webcomic is actually pretty good.
So I shouldn't read the manhwa then since it takes a long time for it be good. I dont like it when things take a long time to get good
I don't care what anyone says about the show, I really loved it and that's all that counts for me. I've started reading the manga because I can't be bothered to wait for the 2nd season.
then why are you here listening to what someone says about the show?
@@Luchiop Because it doesn't necessarily hurt to hear opinions from others. You might not change your stance but understanding someone else's doesn't hurt.
@@xselinisx that`s not what i answered, i answered to "i don`t care".
@@Luchiop doesn't change my response
Have fun loving some shitty worthless anime, we all have one like that dont worry
Bam is a baby chick who imprinted onto Rachel. All of season 1 is Bam learning HOW to make his own decisions and how to be his own person. No wonder he isn't nearly as fleshed out as the rest of the cast.
Manga reader have seen Bam grow into himself, becoming a hero we can cheer for and grow alongside.
The Anime doesn't do that, and wasn't supposed to do that. Later seasons will fix these "problems", but wether we get that or not only time will tell.
Not sure if this helps up and without going into backstory Yuri while climbing up the floors, as the stairs to climb up the normal way are outside the floors of the tower, sensed a strong power on the first floor. Explored out of curiosity as she thought he could be the next Urek, Phantasm, or Enryu other irregulars that really shook up the Tower, She saw him weak so thought to scare him for like that at first but after hearing the Headon test only give up Black March because of his resolve to go through death. Its kinda hinted she wants change in the tower because might be fun. Yuri is kinda the princess that makes rash decisions but also has the strength to prove it and will take responsibility for her actions.
Yes Bam isn't the best well written character in the beginning, but as the series continues it vastly changes right into season 2. He isn't Ichigo from Bleach, the definition of a passive protagonist
Bamm also stopped Quants when he faced Endorsi. They also cut out all of his monologues actually explaining his point of view and thought process. Also his talents and how he had to master a difficult skill to take out the Bull. Anime he just went Super Saiyan inside of it. He's just a plain better character in the webtoon even in S1 since we actually get to know what little there is to him due to his lack of history.
im korean and i watched anime so i was excited to hear this even tho i didnt read tog. i became so obsessed with it i finished the webtoon in less than a weak and spent all-nighters till i fell asleep. it gets really good, but a lot of information was missed. if we get a next season, im praying that it'll look like this: s2 ep0-workshop battle end (before second bigger time skip + hell arc), for around 24 episodes.
Where bam gets hurt for rachel in anime it was shown it was black march that helped him and in webtoon it was shown he controlled the shinsu without a contract and that is a lore drop
The character development of baam from the first act to current day in the manwha is absolutely incredible. Making baam the way he is in this first arc was definitely a deliberate decision by SIU, and doesnt really make sense until later on when his character develops more
I think the major flaw of the anime was that it didnt give enough episodes to even scratch the prolouge
As someone who had been reading the webtoon and in love with the series in high school, this anime was a blessing. It wasn't perfect, I didn't agree with all its changes, BUT it did give the series the western attention I feel like it deserves.
I 100% agree. Tower of God is full of potential, but they need to give it more room to breath.
I think Crunchyroll should of focused on producing only one webtoon this year to give it the full attention it deserved. All we can hope is that if gets a season 2, they listen and make it into something that will be unforgettable.
"It gets better". No, it really does.
Quick note, an irregular is not someone from outside the tower but someone that opened the door of the tower, usually the tower opens the door for those it chooses and are deemed regulars. If a regular gets high enough to where Jahad and aligns them his empire than they are a ranker.
" I don't wanna read the journey...I wanna WATCH the journey!! " - Mightykeef
If you truly love this type of adventure with world depth, you feel like you actually *in* the journey, even if you just read it with colored panels.
The problem is what we have isn't an adaptation of ToG's story so much as it is an adaptation of ToG's prologue. The story absolutely asks the questions brought up here; the whole season is essentially a build up to those questions. But without a second season you don't get a hint of the payoff you really need.
I really think the anime stopping at s1 was a bad move. What they should have done go into a sneak peak of s2 to get that pay off from s1. Now even if s2 comes out nobody cares enough to continue. CR dropped the ball here.
So after watching the show I started reading the webtoon and I have some points to make:
It actually follows the source material very well. If you've seen season 1, you could skip to chapter 75 and not be missing anything.
I agree Bam is a blank slate character, but that just leaves room for him to develop. The potential is insane. ( Although I still think He's a B tier protagonist in an A tier manhwa )
Don't let the slow start fool you. This is only floor 2 out of 135. If you include the outer and middle areas, the tower is 11 times bigger than earth. This world is nothing short of incredible.
As someone who is read both the Manhwa and watched the anime adaptation, I thought both were fine.
The manhwa being as long and in-depth as it has been made sense that it would include more details and subtle nuances.
The anime is more of a broader synopsis that keeps the story flowing and moving quickly, and I think it's great for people who like the premise but don't want to read over 500 chapters for a story that is still ongoing. (I just read chapter 535)
It looked so weird and mysterious in the beginning and got generic "tournament battle anime" or whatever real fast.
We haven't had a tournament since the fake one in the fourth arc, right now we are like, on the 13th arc?
I'm being honest, as someone who just stumbled across this anime out of no where, I fell in love. I really like the different art style and the story is amazing and gets even better in the manwha. i'd say it's one of my favorite animes. hoping for season 2!
The show might of not been amazing but it was good enough to make me read the webtoonz and it’s absolutely amazing and can’t recommend it enough
Honestly I Didn’t Mind A Lot Of The Vague Elements Because It Felt Like It Was Building Up Mystery’s And Has An Idea Of Where It Was Going As Opposed To Just Winging It And Having Heaps Of Filler
A problem that I personally had with both ToG and GoH was the fact that they tried so hard to give plot twist after plot twist without actually giving any information. Like they make these big reveals like a rule to have at least one per episode, and at the end of a season the mistery is only growing. Like giving half an answer to a question but then raising two more questions. Constant. Every episode.
People don’t understand the first season is the build up to bam reaching a breaking point of being used it becomes very obvious later why SIU portrayed him like this at first. He is a literal baby who only knew what Rachel taught him.
This show in a way is like HxH,the starting was decent but that show started teaching a whole new level after about 30 episodes. Even in this yeah the first season wasn't good but it actually does get better,it might be around S2 second half or S3 where it starts to get really good if it gets another season of course

I honestly liked Tower of God as an anime itself. I never read the webtoon but not knowing the webtoon, I still enjoyed it a lot.
When you get to mid-season 2 and realise that Bam has the best and most messed up backstory out of everyone.
And we don't even know half of it. Literally!
I think a "Part 1" is exactly what this season needed to be, and although I wish it had about 3-4 more episodes in this season to properly convey all its notes, I was personally much happier with the Tower of God anime then the other Webtoon x Crunchyroll shows so far.
I love the soundtrack too, I have to say.
Seriously, if Season 1 was about 16 episodes it may have been perfect for the show.
The one manwha I would love to be animated if it's done properly and not rush, would be HELLPER
Yay i loved that series felt like bleach but actual done right.
ToG was completely well adapted in my opinion. And the main issues he had with the characters and their development, are in the manwha. I felt like with every new season, there was a completely new cast of characters with all their own back stories and we never fully delve into the characters of the previous season
I am an Anime fan for a long time but: I watched the TOG anime first and DROPPED it. Then i read the manwa and...i freaking love it. After reading the adapted season in the manwa i came back to the anime and...i think its the worst adaptation i have ever seen. It really cuts away every comedy moment and simplecises the complexety of the story just to let 70 chapters fit into 13 episodes!
I'd say less undercooked potential and more uncooked potential. Or - to drive the metaphor further - the potential hasn't even entered the cooking pot yet and is still layed out in all it's raw and hinting glory on the tablet next to the pot. All that it left to do to produce a wonderful three course meal from that is to take the time to cook it.
Yes, I think that's a good metaphor. Tower of God is like a stew and the first season is laying out the ingredients.
Tower Of God is absolutely fantastic
Bam has a pretty decent character arc in the manhwa. The first season just ends right before he hits his stride as a more developed character.
Am I the only one who actually liked the anime??
😎🤚🏾 I did as well
It's a good anime but it's only really a taste of what the show could be. It was a good adaptation but because it only really adapted part 1, it lacked that amazing hook which did happen but only at the end. It's the kind of show that requires an emense amount of time to fully developed its world, story and character's. But of course it's a good anime it just needs more seasons to be amazing
I liked it even if it didn't live up to the hype that surrounded it. Although to be fair, this is only the prologue to a much bigger story that I'm sure gets much better. As of now though, it's unknown if a second season will ever come out and we have to judge these 13 episodes on their own. And as far as these 13 episodes go, it has an interesting enough world with memorable enough characters, but it's ultimately nothing that special.
I liked it. It was a good Anime. Not the best of all time or anything like that, though.
@Mr Grimm Yessss I feel like Tower Of God is a slow burn series
this was my feeling exactly with the anime. it felt like they were speedrunning the first arc of the manhwa to make it into a 13 episode first season of the anime. the author actually breaks the manhwa down into seasons based on the story saga that is being told. season 1 was about 80 chapters and they adapted that into 13 episodes. that's about 6 chapters per 1 episode. for comparison, the average anime converts 2 or maybe 3 chapters at most per 1 episode. if the anime was 18-20 episodes, it would've been infinitely better.
Thing is Season 1 is the very necessary prologue to the rest of the story. Season 2 will actually be bigger.
Also Princess Yuri is a top-tier waifu
bam went from a annoying/trash MC in season 1 to one of my favorite MC's in just about any medium. Dudes an absolute boss at the current point in the story.
BIG Spoiler:
he went from not wanting to hurt people and being forgiving(aka generic shounen protag) to understanding that he has to come to terms with the fact that he has to kill and he shouldn't look away from the countless of deaths that he's caused by his actions and from the wars he's started for his selfish objective. It's really impactful that he acknowledges that the war he's started are for his own selfish reasons. Although these wars will benefit people in the future, but as of right now he's only started these wars and risked countless lives to save his master. Bams an absolute legend. I need to see him in anime form when he's much more grown up.
It also felt like, they had all this great music, but barely used it in the anime. When listening to the ost I was wondering several times, when did this banger play in the show. Not a problem I had when watchin made in abyss, where seemingly every piece of music had a moment to shine. But after watching tower of god it felt the music was lacking until I listened to the ost and was surprised how good the music actually was.
Did we watch same show ? I think they used it quite well and I mean where do you feel it was missed ?
Ark you probably wont see this post. However I have a video request. Could you do a video about "perfect" endings being undone. First madoka magica, then Code Geass. What's next a sequel to FMAB. I would love to hear your thoughts on this new trend
As a lover of ToG and One Piece, both manga/manhwa and anime, I tend to compare the first season of Tog to One Piece before the crew makes it to the grand line. It's more of an epic introduction to a world that will be expanded on much further down the line. So it has its flaws but is incomparable to what is seen later down the line.
This show really needs to take tips from the promised neverland when it comes to plot twists. The test of tag they had with the red head examiner was just awful, it had over 4 plot twists all in one episode with so many conveniences and absolutely no prior set ups for the viewer to follow along.
Or just adapt things as they should and not cram everything into a single episode. It was just very rushed.
I found both the Promised Neverland and Tower of God enjoyable.
But I remember people also complaining about The Promised Neverland anime butchuring the source material.
The only recent anime being hyped because of the source material but that I found disappointing was God of Highshcool
I loved both The Promised Neverland and Tower of God. I even recommend both to starters but season 2 of Promised Neverland was awful
@@ousou78 The Promised Neverland season 2 disappointed me. For God of Highschool I enjoyed but the pacing is literally nothing to write home about and it was pretty overhyped. And even get me started on Record of Ragnarok and Platinum End, wow those were such terrible shows that were overhyped to the max just like God of Highschool was and both of them were way worse than God of Highschool
I feel like the best way to explain this adaptation is if madhouse obly adapted the hunter exam arc of hxh and never continued. Potentially great but never scratched the surface.
idk how it's possible to rate anything that is near one piece levels of length and world building on just 12 eps, it sucks that the anime enables this discussion
nobody would only mention the first episode of death note as the entirety of the series and rate the entire show on how the first episode is rushed but i dont blame these peoplei blame the industry for wanting to churn out carbon copy minor profit gains instead of taking a chance with a project i get it, it's just the corporate world we live in and nobody is purely responsible but thats the worst part of it all... nobody is responsibly caring about art and that sucks
I love when you brought up hunter x hunter because I believe the first season (for the manhwa and anime) was like the beginning of hunter x hunter and at that point tower of God didn't have its "voice" yet. I really hope they do tower of God season two well cause season two in the manhwa is when the depth really starts to flesh out with more answers and questions with places (floors) that feel lived in. My biggest gripe with this adaptation is to which everyone seems to agree on is the pacing, in the manhwa it felt like this cast have been together for atleast a few months in the anime it felt like a week. I just really hope this first season dosen't deter people from the awesomeness of this series because I'm sure any manhwa reader can agree its just as expansive as hunter x hunter but still very distinct but can defitnely be put in that discussion of great stories such as hunter x hunter.
We all thought that web toons anime adaptations would turn out to be something new and great but after watching shows like god of high school and nobalese we all are like🙄🙄🙄🙄 tower of god is decent but will we get a second season 😒😒😒 i doubt
lol gigguk mention glass reflection in his recent tog video.
honestly speaking, the thing i i love the most about season 1 of tog anime is the music and the improved art style which in season 1 was a bit lacking. season 2 has a way better story and way more fight scenes and if anime is going to keep up with the music quality, its gonna be really nutty
I think the real problem with the blitzing and why we as manhwa readers are pissed is that some of that info they gave was given early Making it more complicated then it actually was.
This is a major problem because one of the main hooks of the series is the mystery of not just the tower but the characters within so just spilling it out there kind of ruins it.
I think the worst example is in the last Episode (So minor spoilers I guess) is that they showed Rachel's motivation for betraying bam in a flashback which is a problem because Bam's Motivation for like the next two arcs is finding Rachel and asking her WTF and only then do we get shown that she is a jealous bitch. We the audience can get behind this motivation because the mystery of it get's us a bit curious also like did she have a good reason or not. But now it's like we know for sure she's trash so we know Bam's journey to find her again is going to be a massive waste of time from the beginning thus we are going to be incredibly uninterested to the main characters motivation for quite a while. there were more less irritating examples then that one but it really highlights the problems throughout that they are spilling so much info when the mystery is half the fun like can you imagine One Piece but in the first thirteen episodes we have learned 5% of the plot and character's and worldbuilding by EP.13 it just would not work.
I think that those of us who never read the source material are more forgiving of this show's issues. Basically, I was happy that one of the first Crunchyroll originals (which was an adaptation of a non-Japanese work, no less) turned out to be entirely watchable and even entertaining. I think it benefited from the bar being set so low by the High Guardian Spice trailer debacle.
Funny enough Tower of God is actually one of the main titles for HBO Max
Baam in the beginning is like a todler following mom that can't do anything wrong while Baam to Rachel is nothing but a stranger she met to get to the top of the tower she has no obligation to give up her dreams just to please Baam so she sacrifices him to achieve her goals. Baam's progression from this todler like behaviour is exactly what makes us love him, we know rachel is no good for him and when he finally chose his friends who care for him over rachel that was amazing, but only possible thanks to this introduction of the Baam that makes the mistakes of forgiving and following rachel regardless of who many times she throws him away. in my opinion.
For something they put so much time, effort and money into. The Crunchyroll Webtoons adaptations haven't really hit home as well as we thought they would huh?
They keep screwing up that's why
This is why I don’t read manga, so I don’t have to be disappointed or just simply not as satisfied when it’s adapted into an anime. That and I much prefer entertainment in the form of a moving picture rather than a still one.
I never understood why manwha people hated the ToG adaptation, I thought it was a really good adaptation and I say that as someone is up to date on the weebtoon/manwha. Its just the first season of the Manwha really wasn't that great and takes until part way through the second season to become really good. This really just another stupid case of manga supremacy imo.
i cant agree with that, s1 was really good apart from the shitty art style.
The thing with Bam is that in the first season of the manwha, which is what the anime covered, bam doesn't effect the story. It's only in the later seasons after the end of the anime where he effectively becomes a character.
It's unfortunate that Bams' character is still based on 'reaction' instead of his 'actions'.
I’m surprised to hear how negative the reception was throughout the community about this adaptation. For me, the content of what would be the second season is when the series truly started coming into its own. So, I can’t hell but appreciate how efficient and clean the presentation of this “prologue” is. That, and obvious positive transformation done by the score
hxh manga >> tog webtoon. tog the fights r too draggy lot of characters n they don't have any motivation for test characters add later lot like nothing just stretch the webtoon plot. rachel weakest character just wanna see stars n be star so climb tower lol .now tog fans will say s2 s3 it gets better lol it's so bad to read s1, bam character is total baseless s1 s2 his motivation doesn't get much feeling i just wanna chase rachel most s2 he has seldom any dialogue . at last will say it took inspiration from some movie n hxh n dbz on how to drag fights but if u want the best just read hunter x hunter manga lot better u feel the characters n there motivation the author don't stall u just to stretch the plot. the tog world build of tower is very interesting concept but it's been poorly executed. all this I'm talking about the webtoon. anime was pathetic.
I agree with the base assessment of bam. But the season ended at the same point as the manhwa. Like that was about 75 chapters as content. Unlike something like idk, the God of high school that instead of having a heavy narrative has amazing action. But ToG is a slow burn. I’ve been reading for about 7 years and can say it’s one of the best/well written stories I have experienced
