Oh thank God someone said something about that. I was thinking since it cleans the bearings, would it clean my teeth? But I guess it wouldnt. Thank you kind sir
working on skateboards like this when I was a kid is what ultimately got me into working on cars... I had an old fucked up set of 8yo bones Swiss from a skateboard I found... took them apart, and they lasted me another 5 years until I quit skating...changing a bearing on a van in a week... cars are just giant skateboards lol
Take the shield off the bearing that points to the inside of the wheel with a small flat blade screwdriver. Clean with a solvent and tooth brush. Clean out the inside of the wheel. Blow dry the bearing with compressed air or a rag. Make sure the bearing is dry and apply lubricant. The secret is to keep your bearing lubricated and they last for years. Water and dirt destroy bearings, so if you abuse them, clean and lubricate them afterwards.
A lot off times, if it has that red plastic (or any non metallic) cover over the outside you can open the set up. Although they are called sealed or permanent bearings you can carefully take a pick and remove the that cover. Then you can pull all the balls out and do a complete clean up on them, re-grease or oil them and snap the cover back on. Also if you have them disassembled you can take them outdoors in a well ventilated area out of reach others and pets and use bleach, vinegar, or peroxide, to chemically remove the rust but NEVER EVER MIX even the simplest household chemicals.
Even if the cap is metal can I take it apart? Because I’m struggling to take the shield out of my bearings but nothing will fit i used a razor but it chipped the corner of it and a baby pin won’t work
A good tip is instead of soaking it in oil soak it in a cleaning solution something like isopropyl alcohol or acetone for a couple hours around 6 is enough for me then tap em off on paper towel and let em air dry a bit then lube em take the shields off before putting it in the alcohol and if u REALLY wanna make em brand new take the balls out the bearing and clean each individual one and lube
@@chanelw1237 It is not a lubricant and clogs up bearings, making them seriously prone to break when using for skateboarding. Honestly, any bearing with too much dirt in it can stop turning in an instant, making you shoot off the board when you least expect it. Think pebbles...
I have some super old bearings in roller skates (my mother bought them in 1978), and although they had been very well taken care of, the bearings had stiffened, and I knew they needed a cleaning, but they don't have a shield to pop off, so this was a super helpful tutorial to get some life back into them and save me some money for a bit longer. Thank you!
i like to remove the inner plastic that separates the balls with a very tiny flat head screwdriver (not talking about the shield), then i can put dish soap and water to clean it very well and remove everything, also clean the little plastic itself, then of course you gotta dry it very well (a towel for the plastic and very fast rotation with your hand + blow air on it with all your strenght for the bearing) then you put it back together, add 4 or 5 drops of machine oil (the oil will eliminates the rest of the humidity) and it's as good as new, i just restored my brother's old red bones, some of them were sticking bad, now they're as good as new, I put it in my penny cruiser that had generic abec 5s i used to just let it sit inside kerosene overnight and oil it next day (the only way to clean fully sealed bearings), works fine but it's not so easy to get and it's bad for the enviroment if you just let dirty kerosene into the sink
I always take them completely apart & I use a nail manicure brush on the cages with simple green & under water,, rinse & dry. If it’s real bad, you can boil metal parts in a pan make sure their dry, then put them back together, make sure the outside of bearings are oil free or it will attract dirt
Following either a skateboarding or inline skating session in stormy weather, I treat them bearing like a doctor treating ICU patients. Immediately, to prevent rust build-up, I run the bearings with grit, mud or dirty water in the shields under a faucet, brush them, towel them dry, borrow my cousin's hairdryer, set the blowing to warm-high and leave it pointing at the bearings for 3 hrs while turning them on sides like fried eggs. GENIUS!
If you don't want to wait a year and have 10x better results then take off the bearing shield's soak them in acetone/gasoline/paint thinner and it's actually crazy how fast they get everything out of your bearing when done lube up with oil and you re ready to go
Waste of time. just pop the seals of let the bearing sit in some engine degreasant/ paint thinner for 10 minutes then give it a good blast down with carb cleaner. pack with lithium grease sorted.
Dude. I’ve run my bones reds for two years and they go through rain on a daily basis during the winter... they still spin better than that... idk maybe the bearing you used is easily rusted/messed up
I'm using mass airflow cleaner for a car or truck. It's sensorkleen .helps Remove grease and small stones in bearings. Note you will need a lube like 3in1 or speed cream
I have a really good suggestion to increase the spin time. Im not lying it works multiple times. Put whiting toothpaste in the middle of the barring and just spin it and continully add toothpaste. Spin for 2 minutes and then rinse really good with hot water. Wear gloves. Then dry it with a hair dryer, DONT USE ANY TOWELS OR PAPER. Then use air thats compressed(optional)then there you go. Mine went from 24 seconds to 1:39. Its a really good method. Reply if it helped. Also subscribe if it helped it means alot to me.

is it still ok to brush the bearing even if i removed the rubberlike circle side cover protecting the circle what we call it in my langauge "bulitas" (thats a long self explanatory name right there)
of course! you'll actually get a better clean if you take the shields off! just be careful that the balls on the inside don't fall because they are close to impossible to put back in.
Is not it simplier and precise to take out washers ??? By washing the washers a lot of dust came into bearing. This method is maybe good for ZZ bearings

i thinks you should take of the red part of the bearing and then put the oil in the bearing and all the other stuff and put the red part back in the bearing

I need to do this for my expensive motorcycle bearing. There's only one after all. But I wanna save that 12 bucks!
When your bearings get wet, spray WD-40 in them and spin the wheels. That will displace the water and keep them from rusting in the first place.
