I used to absolutely hate them because they are so common and where I come from (Kenya). Now I come here and everyone just loves them...makes me see just how we take some things for granted because they are available
They are a dime a dozen here in Southern California. I mean literally growing on the side of freeways. The beauty I have found hus finding rare colors. I mostly see pink and fuchsia, I got mine in white 😊 they're gorgeous 😍
@@analyticalhabitrails9857 lol I'm here in America and they're EVERYWHERE where I am. Like literally growing on the side of the freeway and in every shopping center
This is definitely my next plant! I've seen masses of them planted on the roadsides and even climbing up the hillsides in southern California. I pointed it out to my wife and she remarked how beautiful they were. Out there I've even seen them completely covering garages and the like i.e. small shacks, tool sheds by houses etc. Beautiful when they're used that way, in a warm climate of course.
Thanks for the cold weather advice. I live in Michigan and thought i could never have this plant bc of our cold months, but now i know what to do! Thanks!
i remember a youtuber who visited LA noticed how "beautiful" our trash was because of all the bougainveilla petals that were mixed in it. idk why that stuck to me but everytime i see it in the street i cant help to see the beauty in it the same way she did.
Bougainvillea bushes make an excellent security perimeter as well. If you plant them as hedge due to their thorns they make an impenetrable barrier. Better than barbed wire. If you’ve ever been stuck in one you’ll never dare try to sneak thru one again.
Actually this is the most difficult plant I have. But I haven’t given up. Right now in central Texas, my Bougainville is in part shade at 94 degrees. I dare not water it, even though it’s leaves are drooping. The last one I had, I have been told I watered it too much. Maybe if you can get past the first year with one, you don’t have to be so attentive. When a plant’s leaves droop downward I think it’s stress or needs water. If I put it in full sun, then the plant droops terribly. I thinkTexas heat can be oppressive.
Might be the humidity or lack of. I have a few in my yard in central FL and I have let the summer rains take care of mine. I also get heat in 90s daily.
And it grows and flourishes in AL sorts of climate. If it catches it will grow forever and will flower. I love the bougainvillea and I have planted more than 10 plants in my home yaaayyy
I love this plant! You see it everywhere in California! I saw it in pictures and videos of Marilyn Monroe's house and thought, i want to have them in my yard. Beautiful plant!
In my country it’s a commun plant . Honduras. Now I live in Houston Texas and a have a purple , and a pinki red. During the winter I bring then inside. But during the warmer days of the winter I take them outside.
Amo a bougainville, aqui no na minha cidade RJ ( BRASIL) é muito comum casas com bougainville caindo nos muros, é um espetáculo. Eu tenho a rosa clara e a rosa pink, mas quero todas as cores.
Is there a part 2 to this Video I wanted to hear about the last one I have a Purple Queen Bougainvillea and that looks just like it wanted to hear the rest but the video ended. :(
Would the color of the bracts change the way one winterizes or prunes the plant? I have about 4-5 different colors.I'm just North of Houston in Texas and we get spurts of cold weather below 40 degrees here and there with the occasional freeze, but I plan to bring all of my bougainvillea into my garage around Dec.-March.
I bought a bougainvillea in the spring. It's in a container on my rooftop garden and it was stunning when I bought it - bright pink flowers. But it's steadily dropped all leaves and blooms and is now nothing but twigs! It's not dead, I checked. I have followed all advice I could find about watering and placement but it's just dropped everything :( . I live in the mediterranean where it's abundant but I just don't understand what I have done to it or what I can do to revive it!
I have a question. ☝️ I have a royal purple bougainvillea that I bought about 18 months ago,({9 green box} on Amazon) it has lots of leaves and thorns. I put fertilizer at least once a month in the growing season. It has long branches but it hasn't bloomed yet. I live in upstate NY (zone 6A) which is very cold in winter. I bring my plant inside late September and bring it out late spring. They get at least 6 hrs of sun. In the winter time I keep my plant in an east side facing window, which it gets morning sun and it's pretty bright the rest of the day. I water it not that often since I've heard that it needs to dry between watering times. What am I doing wrong?? 🤔 I just don't know what to do. 😫😫 Please advice if you can.🥺 Thanks!!!😊
I heard that pruning it helps. Your zone is not the right one for them to flourish, unfortunately. Try pruning and tricking them by not watering them for a long time.
I know this is late but it might help someone. It sounds like you're fertilizing too much. Too much nitrogen and bougainvilleas will put their energy into leaves and branches instead of flowers.
I have 3 bouainvlilleas insite my home, one of them are twice blooms but the others 2 just leafs. I did not know how I take care. I live in Nederand not much sun. Thanks .
They Love sunshine 🌞 & very little water. They don't like to be where it's cold/drafty 🥶 Try to keep in the part of your home that gets the most sunlight 6-8 hours if possible 🌞 When I lived in Northeastern US, I used plant grow lights, during the winter months, usually 24/7 We live in sunny Florida now & I rarely give them water or fertilizer. You may want to trim & fertilize the 2 that aren't Blooming ✅️ There are plenty of utube videos with great info. Good Luck 🌺⚘️🌼 4:27
strange question but how can I encourage my bougainvillea to not flower and grow leaves. I am training one for a bonsai I trimmed the roots back in late winter about 70% gone. it has grown a few leaves like 3 or 4 on the edges and just flowered insanely. there is 3 times as many flowers as leaves. I noted that trimming the flowers off or trimming the buds just makes it grow more flowers even faster. I want leaf growth for thickening etc I recently cut a branch back by half first thing it did was 2 or 3 little leaves and a bunch of flowers. it's late spring now maybe it's a cycle but it didn't seem to have a leaf growth cycle.
I brought my inside my garage when it got and all the leaves fell off. I was worried it would not grow the flowers again. Glad to know my plant isn't dying.
I bought one late last Summer and here in the East, where we do have winter weather, I brought the pot indoors into my bright, sunny window and it sparingly has bloomed, not fully like yours, I can't wait till mid spring to put it out. One thing that puzzles me is that it is still in the pot that I bought and don't know if I should repot and if so, a bigger pot? Would i kill it by repotting it?

Grow it in a greenhouse & it will turn into a tree. It's actually a vine, but pruning it will make them bush out more, & the older they get, the thicker the trunk gets... allowing the plant to support its own weight.

I wouldn't call a Zone 10 plant "hardy." Hardy means it can survive low zone numbers, like 4 or 3.
