Not me for sure. As a Chinese from Hong Kong, I have been in Nigeria since 1977. I have been working in Onitsha (Igbo), Lagos and Lokoja (Yuroba) and Kaduna/Katsina (Hausa/Fulani). I found them all friendly and happy natured. Of course there are corruption problem, security problem, airport harassment etc. But then again, I have encountered similar in Ghana, Congo, Benin etc. This country has people, food and energy in the form of oil. What it needs is a good system suitable to the country's situation, history, culture and people instead of copy and paste the liberal democracy system from the rich countries that has been proved not working satisfactorily even in Europe and America.

Interesting! Every one is complaining about immigrant Nigerians in their country. Wait until you get inside Nigeria itself. Here's the best way to describe Nigeria,
Lawlessness: You're free to endanger the life of other motorists by driving in the wrong direction of traffic, on a one way road, or on any major freeway. Running red light is the norm. No road safety signals. No respect for speed limit. Law enforcement and law enforcement agents are almost non existent. Emergency number calling system is useless. The Police would have to negotiate a bribe before coming over to save your life after the bad guys might have accomplished their mission and vanished into thin air. And that's if at all they answer their phone
Women are not protected, assaulting them in public doesn't necessarily land you in jail. You have to fight with armed robbers to save your life when they show up at your home. Because policing is almost inexistent. The only common place you find the Police is next to an elected politician. Bribery and corruption is the norm. Lack of employment because as a foreign investor, you'll be asked to pay so much in bribe money that you end up giving up your investment plan in Nigeria
The leaders have adopted a completely handsdown approach to law enforcement in most aspect of regulation and the majority unpatriotic citizens take advantage of the situation, instead of doing their best to make the country better. Underfunded and substandard education system that produces graduates and professionals lacking general basic knowledge, including knowledge about their own profession.
Medical professionals are more likely to kill you out of lack of knowledge about their profession, non-chalant attitude for work (Common in Nigeria), as well as out of lack of on the job training before being allowed to work. Very high concentration of very scamishy individuals, even your own family member or girlfriend/boyfriend may attempt to scam you if they could get away with it
Civility is completely lacking- respect for neighbors right to peaceful dwelling is non existent. Very loud, obnoxious and lousy people, to the extent that neighbors talk very loud after 12 midnight. Because it's not part of tradition to respect your right to peaceful dwelling. Churches are conducted after midnight in the name of worshipping their God. Thereby disturbing neighbor's right to peaceful dwelling. Absolute disrespect for the environment. Any idiot could start a fire without regards for your right to clean air and the items being incinerated could include plastic and deadly chemicals. The strive to achieve pollution free environment is not even an existing topic of discussion.
Bush incineration is the standard way to clear bushes. Jungle justice is the way to settle scores with your offenders. Because policing is almost non existent. The banking system is more technologically developed, scam proof and more advanced than that of America. However, frequent network issues creates a situation where customers are forced to come and spend most of their day inside the bank. Because all online privileges granted to customers for online transactions functions erratically, partly due to shabbilly done job. Primary education isn't compulsory, at least implicitly. Children as young as 6 years old are cattle herders from Abuja all the way to Northern Nigeria. Child labor is implicitly legal
In a nutshell, it's a completely disorderly society lacking in civility, law and order and a completely failed State, where international standard is disregarded in every aspect of society, including in Healthcare for that matter. Both the led and leaders aren't doing things in the best interest of Nigeria and it's very obvious in the way they go about everything relating to running the country.
Suffice to say that it went from the best and richest country in Africa in the 70s and early 80s, to one of the most badly and most poorly run country in Africa. The Naira used to be grater than the dollar in the seventies and early 80s (1 Naira = 60 cents). To day, $1 = over 1000 Naira. Just imagine that for a one time Giant of Africa

Steve, the only reason why people around the world think that the Nigerians are different is because they misunderstand them. By the way, they are not all alike. I have had more interaction with the Igbo, Yoruba, Ibibio and one or two other ethnic groups, but none from the northern Hausa. As a university freshman abroad, I shared my dormitory room with a Yoruba and then in the second year an Igbo right from my arrival. That was the first time I had met them. The Igbo are talkative and very intelligent but so are the Yoruba. We would talk until late at night about everything, including girls, of course. Years later in graduate school, I had five Nigerian professors in Applied Calculus, Organic Chemistry, and Pharmaceutics. Throughout the years of my interaction with them, I never expected anything sinister or disagreeable from them, simply because they were not what many people here have said they are.
It is possible that living abroad had moderated their behaviour, but I don't think so. I also met many women from Nigeria while studying abroad, but none of them were badly behaved or anything out of the ordinary. One particular trait I observed about most of the Nigerians I have met is that they are go getters. They will spot an opportunity in the blink of an eye. They are very persistent and never give up until they have attained their goal. That is one thing I admire about them, especially the Igbo. They are high achievers by nature. That said, I believe that Nigerians are misunderstood. Given their population everywhere around the world, some people may be intimidated by them. I think that of all the African countries, Nigeria is the only country most likely to make a tremendous breakthrough to superpower status, which will astound the world. They have the manpower, resources, brains, work ethic, you name it, to get there.

We tend to be loud and brash (sometimes to my embarrassment, I must admit), but also usually very very successful at whatever we set our minds on! The combination of success and loudness is not one that fetches you love from your adversaries, so if there are folks that don’t like us, it’s understandable.
But……..we really don’t care about that. We don’t even notice it. In my modest sojourn in Europe and the US I’ve come up against racism a few times, and rather than be angry, I’ve found it amusing. Will it dissuade me from pursuing my goals? Nope. I don’t even recognize it as a factor. If I see it as a hurdle, I’ll step around it. If can’t step around it I’ll go over it. If I can’t go over it I’ll tunnel under it. If I must confront it and feel that I can conquer it, I’ll take it on with all my might. If I feel it’s too big a challenge, I’ll take another route. In all, I have my sights set on my goals! No hatred from anybody will stop me. In Nigeria I’m not unique. That’s how we are conditioned to behave in Nigeria. The end result is everything. The person who harbors hatred for us does himself/herself injustice. For the most part we don’t even notice it. You’ll never see a happier people than Nigerians. Every-single-one-of-us believes that he/she will be a success in life! I’m talking GENUINE FAITH here. That’s the spirit that drives us.

I'm likely to agree most with the first point. The more there are a group of people the more they are likely to be visible. Yes Nigerians are in the media because of crimes but they are also in the media making headlines because of their excellence in their various fields. They are all over the world holding diplomatic, economic international positions, in entertainment, sports, medical breakthroughs, literary contributions, entrepreneurship and wealth, in the academia, even political positions in other countries etc. What I would say is Nigerians don't don't blend in with the crowd. They are not passive. Good or bad, they stand out. So you could either love them or hate them for it.

Nigerians are smart, innovative, hardworking and world-class hustlers. Because of problems of corruption and bad governance in their country, they are found in perhaps every country in the world. Those that are lucky enough to be assimilated into their new countries make it big because of the qualities mentioned above. Those that don’t, they find ways to make it big through illegal means. They are not afraid to swindle their way to a good life, leaving a multitude of innocent victims behind. This is why Nigerians are loathed. Unfortunately this bad reputation becomes a large stroke unfairly painting all Nigerians. Still, no Africans come even close to Nigerians in every aspect of life. My opinion.
