This American spent much time in Sheffield while living in Rotherham for ten years. Many good times there browsing the shops and eating tasty food too! Loved riding the trams to get from point to point, Thanks Neil for showing me how much Sheffield is coming along! Cheers! ;)
I haven't lived in Sheffield since 1974, and how it's changed with nice paved walkways and impressive new buildings; I do remember Debenhams but it looked much different back then.
Sheffield is a really nice city with a lot of interesting places to explore of course I like seeing the local stores, pubs, restaurants and other places like this but I really like Sheffield, until your next video take care and thank you see you later.🥛👋🇬🇧
Just watched your video of our city. Wow how much has it changed. I am guilty of not visiting my city centre as much as I used to, and to be fair it had fallen into disrepair for years. But your video has opened our eyes. Well done to you pal, you’ve shown my city in a completely different light 👍
@@andywright3450 visited Sheffield in August and I felt the opposite. Was very impressed... City Centre was clean and well maintained. Some lovely new developments such as the Cambridge Street Collective. The Town Hall Peace Gardens area around St Paul's was lovely. Fargate was being repaved so will look great I'm sure. I'm sure there are dodgy areas .... but generally I was very impressed
Great video, my wife is from Sheffield moved to the North East over 35 years ago. While we visit her family it's been some time since we took a walk around the city centre..... Very impressed with the changes.

Sheffield is one the best places I've lived and I miss it, it wants for nothing, you really blew me away with this update on the steel city, I'm older and I don't like change but if you don't update things the whole place will look like a dump, its always an ongoing thing with a city centre of this size, I can understand people moaning but they really should be grateful they live in a city that will do these things, I now live in a place where things seem stagnant and shopping malls are closing, everything is Amazon delivery so we don't get out or see people, that's the problem with today, that people connection, I really do agree that the people of Sheffield have always been friendly and funny people, Thanks again Neil.
I think this city looks very interesting. The beginning is so modern. The planting reminds me a lot of Australia. Grasses, etc and the indoor conservatory has a lot of tropical plants that you would find in Australia's top end. What really shocked me was how quiet the city is.
I haven’t lived in Sheffield for 45 years nor been in the centre for 20. I really enjoyed the video. One can always criticise but at least they seem to be doing something.
I really enjoyed Leahs yard, that is a super cool idea, that's the brilliant thing about Sheffield, its got your big names but the small business's are there too, I do think Meadowhall killed The Moor and I find that quite sad, its really cool that you worked at House of Frasier in the TV and hi fi Dept, wasn't that Walshes at one time? I do remember Dixon's, The Sony Shop, and Virgin records, oh and Redgates toy shop... thanks again...
I remember the days when Thursday was half day closing in town. That reminds me of Sheffield early Sunday morning not 10 am on a week day. I remember Sheffield being busy/packed. The Haymarket and Dixon Lane and the Castle, Sheaf, Sets and the Rag and Tag markets.. Hole in t' Road .. Sheffield in it's hey day.. All the characters have gone, new buildings everywhere, expensive shops and food halls. Most people I know couldn't afford to shop and eat there Where's the good old greasy spoons?
As a child of the 60s it's changed a lot since I was a lad. I'm not keen on all the pedestrianised areas, I think it's reducing a lot of trade. I remember cars backing onto Pinstone street to get into Cole Brothers' car park
Some of the outer suburbs of Sheffield has a few gems of independent stores, cafes, etc. The city gets a harsher reputation than it perhaps deserves, but it also did suffer from a lot of the same issues plenty of UK cities did during constant regeneration works over the years, and that a lot are suffering today.
Sheffield suffered from the same issues that many cities do. Bad planning from 1960s and suburban expansion. Couple that with de-industrialisation, online shopping, and lack of transport, and bingo dead town centre. It's turning around now though. Been packed the last few weekends especially
@@user-jv9tg2ef5f There are attempts to change that (city centre living helps, though turning office blocks into flats I'd argue isn't quite the answer). Their cities have just been more liveable than ours for much of the past 50 years.
Thank you for another great video and walk around our city. I am too a Sheffielder. Born here and lived all my life here too. So much has changed over the years gone by. Possibly for the good. But some will say different. But as they say, you can not please every body.
