Note Goku's confidence that he can get through to Vegeta when Trunks couldn't. Goku may be a moron, but he really does _know_ Vegeta. Disarmed Vegeta's anger by confusing him, then made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
Classic shock and awe
To be fair, it works on all the Saiyans at some point or another, even in the canon universe. Goku's stupidity is just a different kind of genius.

For reference the mafuba or evil containment wave was what was used to seal away King Piccolo back in Dragonball. It seals an evil soul away in an item like a bottle, rice cooker, or pot

Which is weird that Kami also questioned what Piccolo was talking about, since, if I remember correctly, he's the first in the OG Dragonball series to use that move. I'm guessing TFS forgot about that.

Chi-chi’s father is called the Ox King and he was the king of Fire Mountain so technically she was a princess. Tho back when she met Goku she was all about fighting and tried to kill him by throwing a big blade that was a removable spike from her helmet back then.
I think there was one question Bulma asked her mother a few episodes back "Hey Mom, why do you never seem to age?"
And the mother's response: "Oh, your father won't let me."
Just can't help but think that now we have fresh context on that bit.
And in another scene, might have been the same episode, they're talking about Gero's sub lab and Dr. Briefs says, "Where do you think I keep your mother's clones?" "Mom's what...?" "Don't go in the basement."

@@EnergySurge I always I thought he said "clothes" and Bulma was shocked that her Mom had so many clothes that it filled an entire basement. Now the freak-out makes more sense.
I loved the episode when Goku finally wakes up from the heart virus. It’s such a heartfelt scene and is so sweet, actually much different than in this episode. The two hug each other, he talks about taking Gohan to train with him which she agrees to, and they even kiss before he teleports away.
It was so different to how Abridged and Dragon Ball Super presents their relationship now.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 It was ^^ It was a nice show of how much they care about each other even though we see Chi-Chi yell at him a lot in the series. So it just reinforces the fact that the two do sincerely love each other.
Nowadays in Dragon Ball Super, they ignore that and just have Goku run off to train all the time or have her force him to work even though he clearly doesn’t want to.

That was my favorite quote from this episode, outside of "Move It Boy!" and "I get it, he's absorbing people, I'm trying to stop it"
I think that horse line is something people kept asking the voice actor to say over and over again.

Those moments are what makes tfs stands out from other spoofs/parodies, they actually flesh out and adds more personnality to side characters instead of focusing on the main characters

Watching this through while I comment. Goku's pirate dream is a reference to One Piece. The ninja dream is a reference to Naruto. I think the Naruto manga ended around the time this abridged episode aired.
The Mafuba is the sealing technique that was used on the original Demon King Piccolo way before the series started. He was sealed in a rice cooker.

Just a few things to note about the Hyperbolic-Time Chamber:
- As you can see it's an infinite white void of nothingness, so you can easily get lost in it if you venture too far.
- The gravity is 10x that of Earth's.
- It's hard to breathe in there.
- The temperature randomly fluctuates. It can get so hot that the entire area will catch on fire, and it can get so cold the entire area will start to form large glaciers and potentially freeze you in place.
- You have a high chance of going insane, especially if you go in there alone.
- You're only allowed to stay in there for 1 year and if you stay beyond that time, the door/entrance to the room will disappear forever.

Basically it’s a sealing technique that Master Roshi’s master used to seal Evil King Piccolo (Piccolo’s father/Kami’s evil half) in a pot but at the cost of his life. Roshi has used it a few times in the past and future (Dragon Ball Super)
it's not really a knee slapper but it's a really clever joke because people who don't know about the technique would just assume he's talking about organised crime supplying roshi. It works on many levels

6:16 Just a point of technicality, but original Dragonball (where Chichi first appeared) was based on Journey to the West, an old Chinese fable. And Chihi is the daughter of the Ox King. So in an indirect sort of way Chichi actually is a Chinese princess.

Android 18 saying Chi Chi's clothing looks like a chinese princess, isn't a dig at the chinese culture. It's an inside joke because in the original dragon ball, Chi Chi actually was a princess and her father being the OX King.
The Moment was actually pretty cute when Goku holds Chi-Chi.. their happy couple moments are pretty rare, cause Goku is.. Goku 😋 There is one little moment in the end.. that always get's me you will see..

Some of their jokes just work on so many levels at once. The mafuba one for instance, it sounds like an in-universe version of mafia if you don't know what he's talking about, which would make sense roshi has pot if he knows them. But actually it's a technique to seal pure evil beings in a literal pot. So he's still being naive.
I like how TFS is taking the time to show that,while exagerated and silly, 16 acts as a good middle man for 17 and 18. Giving the 3 somewhat of a moral compass, even if it is to focus all their efforts on killing Goku instead of destroying the world around them

Goku finally being back in action is really exciting & his interaction with Chi chi was really wholesome. Krillin gushing over 18 is hilarious. I’m pumped to see how Piccolo does against the Androids he did pretty good against Cell so I have high hopes he’s got this

That joke 3:20 that joke was when goku was dreaming about being naruto and luffy from one piece. When he said he was having a ninja dream but it ended. It was a reference to the series ending around the time that video dropped.
6:19 In all fairness, Chi Chi *is* an actual princess. Her father, the Ox King, is *filthy rich* ,but Chi Chi always feels uncomftorable when he effectively pays for everything with Goku's reluctance to get a job.
You'd think that "repeatedly saving the world from annihilation" and "training to repeatedly save the world from annihilation," which is basically a full-time job in itself, would be enough for Chi Chi to realize that maybe he really ought to be focusing on that. I think the Ox King is doing a good thing by ensuring that Goku is properly paid for his services.

1. Goku trains for himself and cause he wants to. Him being the defacto protector of Earth just kinda *happened*
2. There are pretty significant time jumps here and there, with it making sense that Chi Chi would want them to at least try to be a normal family in the meantime.
@@filipvadas7602 That's a perfectly valid expectation, but Chi Chi should allow Goku's training and fighting to be his 'job,' and she shouldn't feel bad for her father paying him for it. Spending 8-10 hours a day training isn't any different than spending the same time flipping burgers (or eating them, since I doubt Goku could stop himself), except the next time a world-destroying villain drops by, well, Goku won't be strong enough to stop them.
@@Lycanthromancer1 true, but I think we can also cut Chi Chi some slack as even Gohan noticed how he literally spends more time training and/or dead than he does with his family.
Its not that he does it, its the inherent motive that I would say is the problem for them, that being that Goku's mind is wired for fighting. Which isn't bad thing, but he's often his own worst enemy.
Tho, tbf, he does chill out a bit in DBS and actually starts helping out, even if he thinks its boring, so its not like Goku isn't trying.

Yep..that was the moment when even Goku who always won realized.. "Being a Super Saiyan is not enough..."
Hum...actually, he hasn't always won : he lost many battles as a kid, at first (most notably against Master Roshi, General Tao, Tien and Demon King Piccolo, on their first fight).
Then, as an adult, he died to Piccolo while fighting Raditz, which he couldn't defeat a better way than sacrificing himself for that (so I can't consider this as a win exactly, pretty much like he did latter with Cell, in fact). Then he got litterally crushed by Vegeta as a giant monkey, and only managed to survive against him thanks to Gohan, Krillin and Yajirobe that just came saving his butt on this one (even though Vegeta lost the fight in the end, but Goku didn't do it on his own, just like with Raditz, once again). Next one, Captain Ginyu stole his body on Namek, and when he eventually got his body back, it just got badly smashed by Krillin, Gohan and especially Vegeta, so he couldn't do anything again by himself for a while after that (except throwing a frog to bounce back Ginyu's technique on himself just to get rid of him for good, but he got really lucky about that)...and finally, he couldn't stop Android 19 because of his heart attack, so Vegeta actually succeeded to finish the job on that one. Even while facing Freeza, he was loosing pretty badly before turning into Super Saiyan for the first time. And if you count the non-canon movies, he didn't win against Garlic Jr. (Gohan did), and even against Metal Cooler, he only made it thanks to Vegeta saving his butt and making it together (so, double victory on this one)...

I always wondered why it's called the hyperbolic time chamber in the back of my mind but never really thought about it. But I think I get it now. A hyperbola is shaped like half of a stretched circle or loop. So it's like a time loop but stretched, because the time chamber stretches time. I guess. (and its not really a loop because it's cut in half, but compared to a straight line the hyperbola takes a longer path through time)

Oh some context of the Time Chamber. It’s actually a sorta pocket dimension instead of a room. As they state it’s a year inside it but a minute outside, however you actually do age inside it so when you come out you spent a year of your real life in a minute. You can only ever enter it twice/two days in a row. If you try to go in for longer you will be trapped inside and the door can not be open. If the door is ever destroyed you will also be trapped inside.
You two are going to be traumatized when Chi Chi gets her hand on Goku

TFS really did a great job at changing Dr. Briefs into the stereotypical "Old, rich, powerful, mildly sexist/racist white guy" trope.
The writing in this show just gets better and better as episodes progress.

Really funny how Team Fourstar name dropped the "Mafuba" technique (Evil containment wave) here as a joke of an obscure technique that Master Roshi knows, which uses a pot as a holding vessel, but doesn't use once in the entirety of Z despite being a really powerful technique that would've been helpful in multitude of moments. I suppose that is why Toriyama decided to conveniently "forget" about it to give our heroes more of a fight.
Also, remember on the previous movie how Gohan was training with "Goten" in a flash-forward after Goku got punched in the dick? And how Chi Chi wanted another baby in this episode? Yyeap.... Not really a spoiler anymore, so... Gohan is going to get a kid brother!

This episode allows one to clarify some things.
As said, calling all the Androids 'Androids' isn't accurate; they're a variety of altered types. 19 WAS an actual Android, fully mechanical. Dr. Gero, Android 20, was a cyborg, an organic brain in a robot body. Cell, who is in a sense "Android 21" (He would be Gero's 21st "Jinzōningen", though in his case 'Artificial Person', which is what Jinzōningen translates to, is a bit of a stretch, as he's an artificial HYBRID that is made up of human and several alien forms of DNA) is fully bio-mechanical, ie he's constructed flesh and blood. Though this wasn't revealed until years later in databooks and stuff, 17 and 18 were altered on a cellular level to be what they are, so they are 'Jinzōningen", but still function like normal humans: they can eat and as Dr. Gero crudely pointed out, they're both fully sexually functional. So they're basically much more 'superhuman' than 'robot', though as other comments have said, one of the benefits of the change is that they have literally infinite energy. They will never tire and their power level will never drop due to weariness. How does one overcome that? Well...by having a level of strength so far above theirs that it doesn't matter if they never tire or weaken, because they won't survive long enough to take advantage.
Also, you'll notice I didn't clarify what 16 is. There is a reason for that. Also, much later, for the video game Dragon Ball FighterZ, they did introduce an actual Android 21, named Android 21. Cell is just 'Android 21" ie "Jinzōningen 21" on a technicality.
The end credit scene is believed to reference a fan-based conspiracy theory, which suggests that Dr. Brief's wife never ages, leading some fans to assume that she may be an android created by Dr. Brief himself. 😂

I actually prefer the name Hyperbolic Time Chamber. The Room of Spirit and Time is kinda bland. RST is the og Japanese name while HTC is the English one, direct translations are fine and all but I do find dubbers doing something a bit different to be more fun, let's them stretch their creative muscle. though some translators get flak for changing something too much, creating different meaning. It's a fine line to tread, yet most do fine.
BTW, when Goku mentioned his ninja dream ending, it's a reference to the series of Naruto ending before the release of the episode, but the pirate dream of One Piece is still going strong.

Poor Piccolo, it seems during this whole thing while Cell is on the loose, it seems our green friend is the only one taking the guilt of being unable to stop Cell very personally. Everyone is more worried about the Androids or the fact that the Dragon Balls are gone now. Piccolo is a very noble man, and his heart is very caring in a way that most likely comes from his Kami side, but it fits him so well. Usually, it's only Gohan that makes Piccolo give a crap about anything. But, this side of him makes me proud to call him my favorite character. He has almost too much depth to him, sometimes, it's overwhelming.

the whole ninja dream ending joke still is kinda funny with the whole fact that the Naruto Manga had actually ended around the time this episode aired
not really much of a fact, just more of a funny thing that I picked up
Also the fact that Goku KNOWs just how to get Vegeta's attention/how to get him to do stuff makes it clear that he's not just a battle hungry idiot that the others seem to think he is....then again people caught on to that after he was able to frustrate Freeza
The extra note for the Hyperbolic Time Chamber/Room of Spirit and time (Depending on what you call it), the whole reason why it's kept out is because a single person can only use it once or twice in their lifetime so no cheating with nonstop training
