Isn’t Tricare a retired military benefit? I figured it’d be whittled down to useless. No wonder folks aren’t enlisting these days. No return on investment.

As someone who works in the medical field, I can't tell you how many things get denied. They are hoping if they make us fill out more paperwork or do extra work, we will just give up on getting the test, medication, therapy, etc. Insurance makes the most money when people don't use it so they make it as difficult as possible to get things approved. There are even some insurance *cough* tricare *cough* that we lose money on to see their patients (it would literally be cheaper to see them for free & do a charity write off than to bill insurance, but we are legally not allowed to do that) so then of course, no one wants to take their insurance & can you imagine how much fun it is to explain to a patient that they have to drive to another state to get coverage because no one is in network?
The sad truth is that I knew the punchline of this scene right as they entered the insurance company with their bright setting and uplifting attitude the first time. Because I've experienced his hell.

Gotta love private healthcare.
I’ve been there. Tore my rotator cuff, knew right away it was severe and wouldn’t recover without surgery. If you think private health care is bad, try public "health" care. Here in Canada they just suggest MAID for EVERYTHING.
That’s because the purpose of health insurance companies is to make money. It’s only confusing and frustrating to you because you think it’s about your health. All they left out was what happens if you have insurance through work and the provider changes and the new company declined to cover your medication even after receiving a pre authorization. Incorporating the lithograph "Relativity" by M.C. Escher is genius. This is the picture of the healthcare system with all the stairs at the 3:40 mark. Even though two people can go the same direction on the stairs one will be ascending and the other descending. Perfectly captures the US healthcare system.
They were going to, but first Matt and Trey had to go to get a second opinion from a provider in network, then had to fill out forms, fax those forms, scan the forms, email the forms to the insurance then go back to doctor then go back to the specialist who talks to the insurance company who faxes the forms to the medical director in the Maldives and oh look, its been almost 30 years
I think Matt and Trey are moderate liberals now, but they used to have more of a libertarian streak. Perhaps they weren't too concerned about this sort of thing until now.
They had a more libertarian mindset when opinions on healthcare mattered. But as they got older they probably went through the system more which made them care more about the topic.
I'm glad this came out when it did!! I've been so down lately. I've been in the disability process for a few years, struggling to financially stay afloat. I've always had chronic health issues, but never thought I'd become disabled and I need more appointments now than ever. The disability process is a joke. Insurance a joke. Jumping through hoops after hoop to drag on for years. Needing referrals for one thing or another, getting denied by insurance one after the other and having to appeal them... I finally got a referral for my functionality tests. Insurance doesn't cover the one I need and it's $700. I literally just went through this. I tore my ACL, doctor says I need an MRI to prove it's torn so I can get surgery, insurance says I need to do PT to make sure it's not just a muscle strain, doctor says that's what the MRI is for, doctor suggests it could also be an occult fracture which you NEED an MRI to check for before the bone heals improperly, insurance says fine, I get MRI, proof ACL is torn. Gotta love private healthcare.
I’ve been there. Tore my rotator cuff, knew right away it was severe and wouldn’t recover without surgery. Had to go through PT first in agony before eventually getting an MRI that showed the complete tear and only then did they do surgery which was a complete success. Although not every surgery is going to work out.
@@bvokey8842 It's wild. I had a bad ski crash in italy they immediately had me do x rays and then right after sent me to get an MRI. No waiting for approvals, they just scheduled me for the next available time slot. If you think private health care is bad, try public "health" care. Here in Canada they just suggest MAID for EVERYTHING.
Ok, I am curious now, if the MRI showed no damage to the ACL, what would happen? The insurance would not pay for it?

This is entirely accurate to the American Healthcare system. Quick to taking money but slow at giving any to you.
“The medical directors job is just to say no”
I felt this entire song in my soul.
The system is so broken and twisted.
I've always just gone to mexico for medication. as long as you have a valid prescription you can bring it across the border just like that. At first I tried doing it the "right" way, but then realized it would be both cheaper to fly to mexico, stock up on my meds, then come back to the US. even after getting the insurance to cover medication they still won't cover all of the cost and from where i live a flight to mexico is only $100, plus i also see a dentist while there.
Butters just smiling the entire time 😂
The ending with the MC Escher non-Euclidean staircase wood engraving followed by the Interstellar movie trans-dimensional bookshelves was such a great social commentary on the perverse complexity of the US healthcare system that makes people depressed, anxious, alcoholic, drug addicted or obese from stress eating.
3:39 M.C. Escher scene was awesome, then Interstellar...Great stuff!

I guess I got it lucky, im a disabled veteran so I get to skip all the parts about the insurance company and go directly to the part where the VA doctor diagnoses me wrong and cuts off apart of my body for a stomach ache!
Sorrrrrrry. Your injury isn’t service related.
You get to see a doctor? My VA is backed up for years.

Fortunately im rural, I only have to wait 2-3 months to see my specialists and usually my primary care provider forgets I even exist in that time.
@@biggumstevens1784 the wait times in the US are getting to be a problem. My private practice called me every other day to remind me I needed to schedule my yearly physical. I finally was like “fine when is available”
Them “Your doctor is booked out solid for 3 months. Also don’t mention anything acute or chronic or else we will have to charge you. “
So apparently I get to wait 3 months to go and have a silent physical exam where I can answer no questions and bring up no concerns. Then if I have a few minor questions about anything even if it takes less than 3 min to assure me it is nothing I have to schedule a new appointment, wait 3 months, take time off of work since they are only open during work hours, and pay $400.
Butters is just so adorable and knows barley anything about life it's just so cute
Bro kyle has been through it. He sounds like my mom 😂
Kyle sounds like his mom
It's what happens when you care TOO much about getting important things done. Which is why we have a world full of alcoholics and drug users, because people don't want that stress lol
Kyle IS the mom friend
3:12 "Yea, your guy didn't say what we wanted to hear...so we want you speak to our doctor". It was a nightmare doing this to old people and it's mot like I'm making decisions....I'm just making phone calls😪
This is the most accurate description of the American health care system that I’ve ever seen.
Incredibly accurate. I live this on the doctor and patient side regularly. UHC, Cigna, BCBS and Aetna have orchestrated the greatest fleecing of the American people in history.
I love how they made it so cute that Kyle is helping Cartman
Edit: I just watched it and now im completely sure Kyman is Canon
Kyle was epic in this entire episode!
@NewYorkYankeesUTTPshut up bud
@@Howlingburd19 Im going to edit this comment in a few hours. I still didnt watched the special but im going to soon. IM SO EXCITEDDDD
I can't even remember the last time Kyle and Eric had such a sincere, genuine moment together that didn't end up getting reversed as a punchline at the end. I did cry a bit at the end. Just a bit.
Man I really loved the old dot matrix printer sounds.
Butters just enjoying his life lmfao
When I worked for the government, there was never any issue with my insurance. I would show which policy I had, I would be told exactly what my share of the cost would be and I got cared for. It’s like the insurance companies treat you differently based on who they are comfortable screwing with.
Got treated good because insurance lobby the government.Third parties are always the issue it be better if hospitals and doctors posted their pricing and they would have price competition and you instead of paying insurance you put in a health savings account.
"I got told what my share of the costs would be". You say that like it's a good thing. It could and should be so much better than that.
Yes this is true. I worked for an insurance company and we had to provide "Additional concierge services" to our UC (University of California, Stanford and Vaden) Members while the Medicare supplementals, medi-Cal and regular employer plans got subpar experiences and services and it was accepted smh (This included employees of the insurance company too, our plans sucked and took 30% of our pay!!!!!!) . The reason is because the plans with additional services were high paying clients and basically wrote their own plans and said "we will pay you x amount for x services and if you disagree we will contract with another insurance company" The job sucked and Yes, I ended up quitting when they started to approve semaglutides for weightloss but my diabetic type 1 and 2 clients were struggling for a prescription. F insurance and their scheming ways!
@@vondae00 did you have lots of denials for chronic Lyme disease?
@@Bigshoots11 YES ! I only had 5-6 patients with this diagnosis and yes- denials from testing to treatment
I did not expect that Interstellar reference at the end
"do you wanna know his policy number or anything?"

@NewYorkYankeesUTTP no one cares 👍🏻
