  • French Heritage Society is thrilled to offer this virtual event series in partnership with our Young Patrons Circle, featuring intimate chats in English with dynamic château owners. As the ongoing pandemic has derailed the guest house and events businesses that support the restoration and continual upkeep of many historic properties, creative caretakers have taken advantage of a worldwide captive audience in need of escapism. Using RUclips vlogs, Instagram posts, crowdfunding platforms, and even a British reality show, they have successfully garnered support for their mammoth projects while raising awareness of the wealth of French architectural and cultural heritage still in need of preservation.
Our second installment of this series features Erin Choa & Jean-Baptiste Gois, who purchased the Château de Bourneau less than three years ago, pausing their careers in medicine and engineering to restore the sleeping beauty. Situated in the Vendée and built on the foundations of the original 15th C Château, Bourneau is a 19th C gem in the Premiere Renaissance style inspired by the design of the beloved Château d’Azay-le-Rideau in the Loire valley. The young couple is working full-time to painstakingly restore the original features in the château that were lost during the property’s time as a mid-century military institute. The whole process has been well documented on Erin’s Instagram account, “The Intrepid Chatelaine,” which gives a glimpse into the breadth of work and the sheer amount of elbow grease required for such a monumental project.

Stephanie Jarvis’s Utube videos brought me to JB & Erin and their Chateau.
I’m so glad that these chateau owners are getting the recognition that has come through their love of history and their hard work.

I so wish, that they would consider starting a RUclips channel. Erin does amazing upcycling of thriftstore finds, and on little gems, found around the Chateau 🙂 I follow them on Instagram, but I really feel like they both would do great on videos. And the Chateau is so, so beautiful! One of my favourites 😍 Big fan 😁

I’m a tour guide here on Cape Cod in the course of my work I have many opportunities to discuss President and Mrs John F Kennedy with our visitors. This lovely couple reminded me of something Jackie Kennedy said during her time of restoring the White House from a post war office building filled with discount furniture into the “First House in the land” . She said “ Everything in the White House must have a reason for being there. It would be sacrilege merely to 'redecorate' it - a word I hate. It must be restored, and that has nothing to do with decoration. That is a question of scholarship." My other favorite chateau owner , Stephanie Jarvis, exhibits the same careful intellectual approach to the stewardship of her home.

Really enjoyed watching your video and the updates so far. Please Please start a RUclips channel. You could gain so much help from Patrons. There are many people out there that would love to have a Chateau but cannot, but would love to help you in what ever small way they can.
