      @@ReasonablySpeaking9808 well I'm 35 and the cause of the baker's cyst and also the knee issue was the fact that I had gotten Lyme's disease or at least I tested positive for it. So I was having major issues with my right knee and almost could not walk at all for a couple of months. It was in pain constantly. Once I got rid of the cyst, and found out that I had lime, I was told that I would need to go on antibiotics and that that would help with my knee pain as well as the symptoms. And about a month or so now on antibiotics and the pain and swelling has gone down around my right knee and it does seem to be improving slowly but surely. I did have to go back to the orthopedic doctor a second time and also had more fluid drained from my knee, although it wasn't as much as before.

    My recent knee MRI revealed I do not have a Meniscus tear as diagnosed, but I have mild osteoarthritic changes along with a moderate-sized Baker's Cyst. It's a nagging discomfort. I was treated with two different ant-inflammatory meds I discontinued due to lousy side effects, several P.T. sessions , and a steroid injection in the right side of my knee which only lasted 2 wks. All because of my Meniscus tear diagnosis from an x-ray done by an Ortho surgeon's office. I requested an MRI since nothing seems improved and the Baker's cyst was discovered. Those symptoms were exactly what I described to my ortho physician. He initially mentioned an Arthroscopy to repair the Meniscus tear if no improvement from all the above. I'm wondering if the mild arthritis caused the Baker's Cyst? No word from the MRI follow-up. Wondering what's next? New physician. Leave it alone and hope it resolves itself?

    There's some things I don't get. So, I understand this liquid comes out of the joint.
    Is it supposed to be in the joint, to begin with?
    Is yes, is it supposed to come out of the joint?
    How is it coming out of it? And what comes out is some sort of a surplus which is not needed in the joint? Or if it is not a surplus and is still comes out, is it replaced by other quantity of liquid?

    • @strike.22
      @strike.22 Год назад +3

      yes the liquid is essentially what lubricates the knee joint, so yes the liquid is supposed to be in the knee and if there is a meniscus tear (which i believe is my case atm) liquid can escape the knee joint pocket and build up excess liquid behind the knee creating the bakers cyst. the liquid will replenish itself so no need to worry about "losing too much liquid"

    • @inertiamedical24
      @inertiamedical24  Год назад +1

      Good question. The fluid in the Baker's cyst represents excess joint fluid that has made its way through a valve structure in the back of the knee. Aspiration of the fluid in this region does not influence the total fluid within the joint capsule.

      @@inertiamedical24 Hi, thanks for showing the procedure and making it look so easy 🙂. I'm wondering about the possibility of recurrence? Fluid reaccumulation requiring multiple drainage? Is that a common outcome? Is there a place for intramuscular steroids or antibiotics?

    • @inertiamedical24
      @inertiamedical24  Год назад +1

      @@avanz2885 The Baker's cyst can recur and if it does, several things can be done to address that. We will often administer anti inflammatory medication into the knee to decrease inflammation and production of excess synovial fluid. Also, if the cyst does recur, we will perform an ultrasound guided fenestration of the cyst membrane which will allow the cyst to decompress. The body will absorb the fluid and the cyst may then stay decompressed. No role for antibiotics as this process does not involve bacteria.

    Okay so I had an MRI done. They said no Baker cyst was found but I have what I researched is called water under the knee.. What is the difference? I have this huge bulge on the back of my leg behind my knee which I assumed was a baker cyst but they're saying different. I have so much pressure on the top part of my knee and it's painful. When I tried to bend my knee all the way out I can't and when I try to straighten it all the way I can't. This is so frustrating. They did X-rays as well just to find out that I have osteoarthritis which I've known about for years. They have not done an ultrasound though. They want to go in with a scope.

      @@estelleadamski308 I injured this knee as a 7-year-old so this was almost 40 years ago. But nobody really did anything about it besides put stitches in my knee. I did end up having the surgery. They found out that I had a meniscus tear so they clean that up and arthritis which they also did something with that I don't remember what exactly they did. My knee still hurts. I still have the Baker cyst but they did remove some of the fluid out of one spot of my knee that they said was inflamed. But then they put more fluid in prior to closing me up so I'm not sure why. He did recommend physical therapy which I said no. Reason why I can't afford the drive all the way over there three times a week. I did ask for exercises and he explained how to do them instead of giving me a printout that had them on it. I would definitely not go back to this surgeon again. He was very vague on some of the stuff that he was talking to me about. Good luck and I hope your doctor does better than the one I had. It did go pretty well The first two days were the worst for as far as the recovery. I did start taking anti-inflammatories which did help so much relieving some of the stiffness I was getting. I also iced it the first few days. This was an outpatient process so no hospital stay. They recommended I have somebody come stay with me or at least come check on me at least two or three times a day which I did have somebody staying with me for a few days. I would recommend having them stay for at least three or four days. Because I overdid it when they left I did my dishes and my normal housework. I did take breaks like I normally do but it was still a little bit too much for my knee to handle. And I did wait two weeks to see my doctor and then I started taking the anti-inflammatories. And then pain medication was every 6 hours for a week. My stomach couldn't handle it so I did two to three a day instead of the four which seem to help.
