Dylan and Robert come home with a truck and a trailer within their budget after looking for over a year. A 2006 Sterling AT9500 with a 450HP Mercedes-Benz engine and a 30 foot Jet hopper bottom trailer. Will it be a good truck? I guess only time will tell.

Hello from a SW Iowa small farmer! Just stumbled on to your channel. 4 years ago I bought an 05 Freightliner with the same Mercedes engine and a 10 spd trans. Never regretted it for 1 minute.
I like it what little bit I've drove it around. It feels like its got a lot of low end power. I'm hoping it will last me a long time. We use a truck a lot but never put many miles on one. A lot of short trips.
Put me in that old sterling!
Come on. We need a good truck driver to haul grain in the fall.

Looks like a good set up.
I watch your videos because of the older equipment. I like watching real world farming channels that aren't fully funded by leased equipment. I know it's nice to look at new stuff but it doesn't represent the real farming world. The Mercedes engine is ok we had one it wasn't as stout as the cat but it did good on fuel. We never turned ours up and it had plenty of room for it they said we could go to 550 but it did alright where it was set. We never had our sterling give any trouble it ran real good so much so we bought another one after the first.

Should be well maintained have a dealer plug in and turn it up and get rid of the speed sensor she will run . A guy around home added 6 feet to the middle of the frame and put a steerable drop axle and runs a end dump .

Heck yeah!! Gonna be awesome to have two trucks and trailers running this fall!! I bet that is a nice upgrade form old blue with all the air ride!! Those are probably really good engines!! They dont make them like old blue anymore. Ive read mixed reviews on the mercedez engines. The biggest conplaint is that they are expensive to work on. Which any of these newer electronically controlled engines are going to be. I know a couple of years ago it was 20k to overhaul a N14 cummins if done at a shop. I thought we bought the truck at a fair price so I was willing to take a chance on it. Definitely nicer ride and drive. Blue truck will probably be used for mostly lowboy duty until fall comes.

Yes I agree the newer computer stuff is kinda expensive, but hauled alot of those ABF trucks back in the day when I drove a heavy wrecker....not many had the Benz engine that needed my assistance 😉 Look fwd to seeing it work this fall for sure!!! You gotta put a big steering wheel in it though 😁🤣👌

I think you'll like that Sterling, I put several thousand miles on and delivered many loads of lumber with one, it was a dang good truck!

Yessir. It definitely needs some tires with some tread.
I honestly love the color myself. Looks sharp. Not sure about the engine myself lol. If I could afford it I'd get something with either a cat, Detroit, or Cummins. Some Mercedes Benz engines are a little sensitive from what I have read a couple times, but you never know. It was new when I graduated lol. I remember when sterling also had a medium duty truck that was technically a Dodge Ram 5500 lol.
There was a local equipment dealership that had one of the Sterling branded Dodge trucks. It was the only one I ever saw.

Just go to a truck shop an have them turn up the speed an maybe a little power! You'll be set!
I'm hoping to do that pretty soon. Maybe they won't charge an arm and a leg.

In an older video you were driving a newer international tandem truck. Do you guys not have it anymore?
We had it rented from a neighbor. It had a Cummins isx in it. It was a nice truck but not really something I could afford.
You kinda left us hanging on why you didn’t buy a bigger truck.

I'd bet money your engine has not been set at 450 hp. ABF would never set an engine that high. It's capable of 450, but probably set at 350. Maybe less. Probably has cruise control disabled also. Most likely you will need to have the computer parameters checked by a dealer. Be prepared to pay to have it set at 450
