  • Must Know ISSUES With LIGHTROOM AI DeNoise
    Before using Lightroom AI Denoise again, make sure you understand exactly what it’s doing to your photographs because it can create potential problems with your edits. In this video I’ll explain everything you need to know and what to avoid. I’ll share the reasons why I use it at a very particular stage in the editing process and I’ll also share some vital tips along the way.

    Adobe clearly indicates : We recommend to Denoise your image before applying other tools, including AI masks and Content-Aware, as using Enhance might change the result of the tools used.
    Once the image has been enhanced with Denoise or Super Resolution, it can't be processed again. However, enhanced Raw Details DNGs can be processed with Denoise.

    Just tried to batch 78 raw images but Topaz Denoise Ai says only 26 are being processed? Any ideas?

      Hi, I’m not sure, perhaps a limitation of the computer hardware? I would think if Topaz had a batch limit, it would be stated somewhere.

    A good point about the duplicated edits but the problem with applying noise reduction first is that some later edits like clarity and sharpening will amplify noise, so I tend to now just apply general edits first like exposure. I have also found that Photoshop does a much cleaner job of sharpening so having done the denoise in LR I then apply sharpness in Photoshop using smart sharpen.

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. Photoshop absolutely does do a better job for sharpening, and that’s a topic I have lined up for a future video. I think there is a lot of benefit by sharpening in photoshop with better tools.

    Personally I try not to use the AI Denoise in Lightroom. Waiting 5-15 minutes for it to finish applying the Denoise, when I can do the same in seconds manually is a waste of time. It’s like going back to the 80’s and popping to kitchen to make a drink while waiting for a game to load on the computer.

      Thanks for the feedback. Lightroom is quite slow on older machines when it comes to this AI DENOISE. Would you mind sharing the way you do this manually? I would love to know as I only use the AI DENOISE.

      @@MarkDumbleton My machine isn’t exactly a slouch when it comes to speed, but the AI Denoise takes far too long in my opinion. What works for me, on 90% of images, is to drag the Luminance slider to 50, and then the Detail slider directly under it towards 100, until you’re happy with the result. This won’t work on Astro photography unfortunately, you need to play with the sliders a little more, including the Color and the Detail slider under that. Hope this helps.

    Great look at LR Denoise. I haven't tried it yet because I have been using Topaz Photo AI but I like the idea of beginning the edit with LR Denoise. Cleaning up the noise very early just makes more sense to me than doing it mid-way through. Thanks Mark.

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  Год назад

      Thanks for the comment Philip. Photo AI is also great, I use it a lot. I DEFINITELY recommend cleaning up the noise in the beginning, just so many good benefits. How do you find Photo AI?

    • @philipculbertson55
      @philipculbertson55 Год назад +1

      It usually does a good job on the noise but over-sharpens the image, at least to my taste. Fortunately, I can dial the sharpening back a bit and it usually works. I like to use clarity in LR later in my workflow and if I don't cut back on Photo AI sharpening before getting back into LR, it gets too crunchy.

    Hey Guys!
    anyone else has experienced longer denoise rendering times? I was editing some photos and for instance 50-100 Photos of denoise took me like 30 minutes, but suddenly it takes almost up to 2-3 hours and I dont know why it is like that right now, maybe some of you have an clue whats the issue is since I found nothing on the internet lol
    cheers!

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  9 месяцев назад

      I’m not technically knowledgable as to exactly why, but a lot depends on the processing power of your computer. The AI DENOISE is very intensive on the processing ability of your machine.

    I certainly understand the best approach to reducing noise early in the develop workflow. Do you know if the Lightroom Super Resolution option also behaves the same way, i.e., it enlarges the file, then applies any Lightroom Develop actions? Does it make a difference when in the process I use the Super Resolution option?

    • @MarkDumbleton

    Great advice. What about sharpening? I used to apply denoise and sharpening later in my workflow but now with the new Lightroom denoise tool, I also do it early. Should I bring my image in Sharpen AI then or wait later in my workflow? Thank you.

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  Год назад +1

      Hi Francois, thanks for the comment. I would apply sharpening right at the end of the edit. Apply DENOISE AI in Lightroom early, do all the editing, do further processing in Photoshop if needed, and then sharpen right at the end. In my video I posted today I speak about sharpening and the problem it can cause if you do it early before other processing.

    Hi Mark. Thank you for another timely video. Being aware of what happens when we use Lightroom AI DeNoise after making some edits in Lightroom, would you suggest that we begin by using Lightroom AI DeNoise on a virtual copy of a raw file at the beginning of the edit? That way if something goes wrong during DeNoiseing we can just delete that virtual copy and start over.
    Also, does this affect quick edits like cropping and white balance? Or just more intensive edits using masks etc.?

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  Год назад

      Hi Garnet, thanks for the comment. You don’t need to use a virtual copy. The initial file will remain completely untouched, it will never be altered and when you run DENOISE, it creates a separate DNG file anyway, so you can always delete that DNG file and go back to the initial RAW file.

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  Год назад

      DENOISE will ignore everything. Cropping doesn’t change the RAW file at all, you can always undo that and when Lightroom copies over the edit which will include the Crop, you can adjust that crop back to the original full frame format.
