This song legitimately stopped me from attempting suicide in 2011. Now, 10 years later I have two beautiful children and life is great. Thank you Sage.
This was one of the last songs I played before I tried to cut my feet off and die in the shower. I didn't die. You didnt die. Its this music that connects us. This is truth encapsulated.
I still listen to this every time something significant happens. When I lost my job, I came back here. When I lost my car, I came back here. When I lost it all, I came back here. I found a girlfriend that I envision a wonderful future with, I was here. Just yesterday I got a kick ass job finally, I came back here and like every time am moved to tears. I thank one of my best friends for showing me Sage Francis back in High School, it's her favorite song - it's my favorite song. I had a job a few hundred miles away from home and ended up having everything stolen from me by the people I was living with. Including some Li(f)e merch, hoodies, the original #filmthepolice hoodie and a bunch of personal non replaceable items. That hurt pretty bad, but I came back here. I'm on an upswing and Sage's message feels so good. It gives me chills. Don't know why I listened to it on YT this time and typed a long personal story but if anyone needs to hear it, just remember "it's not the end of the world"
***** I understand where you are coming from on this subject. it's awesome how music influences and impacts our lives. Sage is an artist that will always have a place in my heart. Human the death dance was a massive part of my life when i struggled with addiction. Li(f)e and especially this song was and still is a keepsake to me because of the struggles of getting my life in order and eventually marrying the woman of my dreams. Now that I see my life coming to and surpassing what I didn't ever expect it to is so amazing. I thank music for helping me through my existence.
Back to this song. It seems each time I hit a milestone in my life I listen to this song. Now a father, just completed my bachelors degree, 8 years sober, and still in love with my awesome wife. it makes me smile when I think about the first time i listened to this song back in 2010. Still hits my heart the same way.
I’ve been thinking about that whenever he posts. He’s lived long enough to see almost every one of those things happen, with the exception of grandkids. I’m curious what this would look like and what it means to him now It’s really heart warming as someone who struggles with those same fears
He Also just went off on a full blown hate speech rage where he was censored on Instagram for it. Just screamed away a bunch of his long time dedicated fans. 20+ years for me. Down the drain.
I played this song at my wedding after the ceremony during cocktail hour, it’s my Next Chapter song. When you realize the power of poetry it’s Absolutely beautiful.
I somehow forgot about this track. Suddenly came to mind. This song really, really hits me in the feelings. Unbelievable writing and I'm sure if more heard it, more would relate. A special song.
The first time I heard this, I was about to graduate high school. I'm in my 4th year of college now, and I'm not doing well, as a person. I still don't know if I'll live to my next milestone, but this song gives me hope. It reminds me that I've never really felt like I was going to make it, but I HAVE made it so far. It's a good idea to hang onto. Thank god for music.
+KT Pat Well said. I'm not doing great either but you're right. Never know what's around the corner even if it doesn't look bright. All the best to you.
Listen to the Soundtrack to Beasts of The Southern Wild especially the track Once there was a hushpuppy that music fits every mood but at the end you are uplifted don't do what I did for a whole semester, listen to Smashing Pumpkins Butterfly with Broken WIngs, that ain't helping
Wow! The comments are so reassuring and filled with hope to those in a dark place. Please know you are never alone. Reach out! I love you and believe in you. God loves you. I’m so proud of how far you’ve come. We’ve got this!
Had the opportunity to meet this man after over twenty years of listening. Coolest and most genuine artist. Told him how he helped, he graciously listened. Three hugs were enough. Grateful as fuck.
I had the opportunity to shake my man's hand and should've gone for the hug. He was very respectful and probably would've hugged, no question. Got him to sign my "dollar bill of hip hop" and I loved the 60s I was in his direct vicinity. Classy dude
I was 20 when Li(f)e dropped, and I turn 33 in just a few days. This is what you call a fuckin TIMELESS song. They could dig this up in 100 years and it'll still speak to kids and grandparents alike.
I was that hopeless kid in high school. Didn’t know where I was going in life or what I wanted to accomplish, had to remediate soooo many classes in high school. Dad was dealing with bankruptcy. Didn’t have a girlfriend. Not any close friends. I cried like a baby when I first heard this song because it was relatable. I just finished residency. I am going to be a physician practicing in California. I hold my 2.5 GPA transcript from high school with pride alongside my medical degree. Keep going guys, we’re gonna make it. Love you ❤ And past self, you’re gonna be okay 🤙

Been taking care of my disabled grandpa since 22... and, it's been a long long road to get to today, but - Music was definitely what kept my head above the water. Can't even count how many times I listened to this song from 2010-2014 or so...and here i am still coming back to it.
Sage Francis is the best lyricist I've ever heard. I could listen to just him all day every day. I don't, but I could. lol His beats, the sound of his voice, his truths... You are a fucking ROCKSTAR Sage! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world!
I just turned 30 yesterday. I always come back to this. God I was so deeply unhappy back when this first came out I heard this I broke down hard. I always loved you man and now flash forward today, I'm engaged to the love of my life and just truly grateful for all I've lost learned gained and will continue to grow but I will ALWAYS come back here Sage.
I'm 45 and have been a huge Sage fan since 2002. Now I have my 14 year old son wanting to stay in the car to finish listening to this jam when we get home from soccer practice. This piece is cross-generational and is timeless. Reminds me that the very things my son is experiencing is the very things I did.
Your words really do touch people of all ages and races, genders, it doesnt matter. THANK YOU SAGE. your a real life superhero, ability:word play. You saved my life. so thank you.
When you think you've got it all figured out and then everything collapses, trust me kid, it's not the end of the world. I can understand that and feel that
My friend showed me this song in 2009 after our friend died from a heart condition at 17. This song reminds me to never forget all the good, all the bad, like getting hit by a car in 2011 where I didn’t know if I could make it I remembered a dream where my dead friend visited me in a hospital bed and told me clearly “You can do it”. I then worked to regain my ability to walk, which I had lost. I damn well am up an walking after almost losing my life. This song help me so much
Sage Francis is the GOAT. Back in 2010, my girlfriend at the time (now wife of 9 years), went on his website to order me some shirts and whatnot. She was able to somehow contact sage directly and explain how his music got me through some of the worst times in my life and what it meant to me. In response, he signed a CD for me and put it in the package with the order. That speaks volumes to the level of passion for the message and it's impact on those who hear it that possesses this man.
Cant wait to see you in Denver...you've helped me through a lot of my life... including my mom passing right after my birthday a week ago...you're a gift to this world ❤
This song has saved my life on many occasions. I have severe depression and anxiety and when I listen to this song, it makes me feel a little less alone. It makes me tear up every time. 'When you think you've got it all figured out, then everything collapses, trust me kid, it's not the end of the world.' Every time. Thank you Sage.
"When you think you've got it all figured out and then everything collapses… trust me, kid…it's not the end of the world." I wish every child could hear this - especially those graduating 8th grade, high school and even college. Absolutely love this song
A friend of my sons spent some time hanging out with me at the end of last summer.. he said my son Michael loved this song.. I have my iTunes on random and it always seems to pop up at the strangest times.. every time I hear it I weep... Rest easy Michael... 5/10/95- 7/21/18.. Dad loves you.. see you soon enough .
One of the best gigs I ever went to. Gave him a hug and wiped the sweat off his lovely head. I believe he closed with this one. He also systematically and methodically hugged everyone there. Legend.
my english teacher showed us this song. he was wanting us to listen to some music that had meaningful lyrics. i cried my eyes out before it started... I was reading the lyrics he handed us.
I graduated highschool today and played this on my way to the ceremony. Called back everything from the past 13 years of public schooling inside and outside of class.
Feels like he is talking about the grieving process when we leave one phase of our life and see it's gone forever, for a new one to start. Scott Peck the writer and therapist said spiritual growth is a series of deaths and new births. The song is awesome!
I love putting myself in the headspace of the kid who just slipped a love letter into the wrong locker and so is convinced my life is over and then telling myself "It's not the end of the world."
Whoever disliked this song hates their life and doesn't understand the true meaning of a life. You have recreated my life and my steps as well. Never would I change or take back a moment of this life I've led. It's been the best of times even when I thought they would be the end of times.
Thank you for this Sage. I played this in my rehab 3 years ago. They asked us to pick a song that we loved and represented us. Im doing alot better now and still listen to this song from time to time
I listened to this when I'd just been fired from English teaching in China. A job that I wasn't suited to at all, but I felt that I had no options and that life was going nowhere. Thankfully things worked out and if you're reading this it can work out for you too. Just keep going. Even if it feels hopeless just aim for stability and keep going
I remember hearing this song when in the summer going to 8th grade. I just graduated highschool 4 months ago. Time flies. I remember being bummed out over breaking up with girlfriends, thinking my life was over. How easy things were worrying about writing a book report instead of worrying about my car payment. When I was worried about being able to get the next Call Of Duty game, instead of trying to get that job. And I find myself here 4 years later, still feeling moved about this song. I'll always come back and listen to it during hard times.
My best friend committed suicide in 2012. This song convinced me not to follow suit. I've listened to this song for over 10 years & it helps me to not pulverize my fucking brain.
You’re so strong and the world is better for having you here to share your story. Thank you ❤ I can’t imagine the feeling of that happening to my best friend.
discovered sage when I was a junior in high school, 2009-2010 right around the same time i found macklemore too. both local artists who uploaded their content to yt in the early early days. 2007 was pre-monetization, idk if 2009 still was. People made videos and music because it was their passion, not to specifcally persue yt fame. 2023, I'm 30, and I still like to dust this one off every now and then. few times a year. it's a good song, not just sad times. It's also the best of times, after all.
Therapy couldn't break me. Never learned a word that would ensure safety. So I spoke softly and I tip toed often. The door to my room was like a big old coffin. The way that it creaked when I closed it shut. Anxieties peaked when it opened up. As if everything that I was thinking would be exposed. I still sleep fully clothed.
My music tech teacher introduced us to Sage Francis 9 years ago, and this song resonated with me so much, I think it's genuinely changed my life. Every once in a while I revisit it and it continues to affect me.
Sage...thank you. You were one of my favourite acts I saw at Bestival 2012...therefore you were an important part of my birthday and the best week of my life.
Sage Francis should become waaayyy more famous, like Emininem famous, he is one of greatest rappers I ever heard. Sage you need to become way more famous because you sir, you sir are a inspiration.
Sage Francis is amazing, I agree. He's got solid, moving vibes. But something that Eminem has, as a rapper, is a greater command over the lyrics and rhythm of his raps. He uses words as more than words. The enunciation of them end up adding to the beat of the song, for example, alliteration and consonance is an example.
My coworker was playing this and it struck me oddly because of the beat. I'm glad I asked who sang this because now I'm listening for the lyrics. Now I'm almost in tears at work. It really relates to my major depressive disorder and ptsd. Haha oh no I'm crying.
Sage Francis seems to have made several of the best songs ive ever heard. This one in particular got me into him I didn't like him for some reason when i frist heard him so glad I was bored enough to give him a chance because this song changed my life in a way. It sounds as if he's kinda talking about me, others could relate.
This song legitimately stopped me from attempting suicide in 2011. Now, 10 years later I have two beautiful children and life is great. Thank you Sage.
I'm so happy he found you.

That is wonderful man! The world is better with you in it.
Keep sharing your incredible redemption experience Charlie. All pain has a purpose and no pain is wasted if it’s shared.
This song is my reset button. Every couple years I go back to this masterpiece to remind me. It’s not the end of times. It’s the best of times.

Coming from 2020: Sage is now married and iirc they're expecting a baby. So he did live long enough for that.

This song saved my life when I left the Mormon church. I was a mess after I left mentally. But thank goodness for music
13 years later and Uncle Sages words still bring comfort and hope in times that don't always work the way we want them. Thank you.

This was the song I listened to when I moved out on my own for the first time. Can't believe it was three years ago!
sage is the realest man ever. this song always puts a lump in my throat
I love you, Sage. This song is beautiful. Thank you.
Hang in there ALWAYS. Sending you
This is a song that hits home, this guy can make people think about what music "is"
discovered sage when I was a junior in high school, 2009-2010 right around the same time i found macklemore too. both local artists who uploaded their content to yt in the early early days.
Man... I really like Sage. A glimpse into his soul, bare, an honest recollection of his youth, flawed for all to see. Beautiful.
Just saw Sage Francis perform this song in person. Simply amazing
7 years later, I want to thank you for this song. It is amazing.
Derek Lewis yes same
Sage Francis should become waaayyy more famous, like Emininem famous, he is one of greatest rappers I ever heard.
Couldn't agree more, I think he might not want to be that famous tho...
I'd rather he not be famous
He just wont be sage anymore
Hes one of my favorite artist
Strange famous 💪🏽
Abraham Martinez yo sage is famous...where you people from?
I like that he's not famous
This just makes me chill out about all of my academic worries and life issues, like it'll be alright, it's not too much of a big deal anyway.
hope you're okay :)
Hope you’re doing well!
Most definitely a goat.....favorite artist are the most under rated
First time hearing Sage Francis. I don't think I've ever teared up from listening to a song.
My coworker was playing this and it struck me oddly because of the beat. I'm glad I asked who sang this because now I'm listening for the lyrics. Now I'm almost in tears at work.
It really relates to my major depressive disorder and ptsd. Haha oh no I'm crying.
+Anubisin brings me to tears too :c sad but beautiful.
Watch Make Em Purr, it's way sadder
I'm always crying at work. This time I wasn't sure if it was from the song or the chili con carne.
Yann Tiersen - The Trial.
Corpse Lore this song is very capturing. first time i heard it i was like 16 or so. Im 21 now and still feeling this song haha
Still love this song ❤
that lyric "its best to just keep some things private" really helped me when this came out.
the repeat button was made for poetry like this!!!
Sage Francis seems to have made several of the best songs ive ever heard. This one in particular got me into him I didn't like him for some reason when i frist heard him so glad I was bored enough to give him a chance because this song changed my life in a way. It sounds as if he's kinda talking about me, others could relate.
