- Tried documenting how car tire works on my bike when I lost it on a tight corner...

GOTCHA! Watch closely and you will see me ride off and turn right when the camera stops spinning. It was just the camera that "lost it"! Watch my other videos to see how a car tire really works on a motorcycle
@dkjohannes Very right. When I had a Pirelli Diablo on the rear of my Rocket, it lasted about 3000 miles. My car tires have always exceeded 10,000 miles. Car tires handle fine. They just have different characteristics and need more effort to corner than round tires.
The rear Yokohama is doing fine. I have about 6000 miles on it and tread depth looks like it will last to at least 13000 miles. Tire life was never a big concern since I got 8000 to 12000 miles on the stock Metzeler. It's the traction benefits that have me running the performance car tires. Only con is that cornering aggressively requires more countersteering effort so it isn't the best for sport riding but will work as you can see by my other Rocket videos.
I would fit a car tyre for the cost, straight line grip, and longevity......but ONLY if i could get assurances from the insurance company and the Rozzers that it was completely legal and not going to effect a claim..(and i hardly think that would be the case..shame).
ouch!! Hope you didn't get hurt.
Any tyre can corner, bike tyres just do it better.
P.S. Uk statistics, crusier/tourers have less accidents, tend to be older more mature riders, higher insurance payouts due to vehicle cost. Flat tyres would give better braking / acceleration but poorer cornering. Only suitable for big crusiers which already have fat rear tyres.
@mark675 Mark, I race a 675 so I understand how bikes corner. I've seen many, many more sport bikers bite it than cruiser riders. Bikes are all just rides, mate, and we're all Brothers so won't you make kind comments for once? We ride because we enjoy bikes and our fellow riders. If you're riding for other reasons then you might want to look at what's really important in life. Anyways, if you payed any attention to the video, it wasn't my bike that lost it. My Rocket goes around corners great!
RR..How does the rear tire work out.... any pros and cons ..?? I'm still running Metzeler ME880 Marathon 240/50 R16 on the back of mine so far not as much wear as other have. Some are replacing it at 3500 miles too soon IMO.
You guys have to pay closer attention. Read the captions. I lost my camera, not the bike. You can see me riding off when the camera settles on the pavement. GOTCHA! Damn funny if ya ask me. You want to see how the car tire really performs? Check out my three Rocket Play videos in my video list.
silly way to save a few bucks. if there is such a market for THESE types of tires on THESE types of bikes, then why are the tire makers not producing motorcycle tires that more resemble a car tire than a bike tire? you've turned the handling characteristics of a two-wheeled motorcycle into that of a 3 wheel trike, if that is indeed what you were trying to do, you succeeded.. congrats. not completely knocking it, i really enjoy the handling of a two wheeled motorcycle over a can-am trike.
does this not affect handling?
Manufacturers don't use em because if some chump is buying a $200+ tire every 10k miles, why in hell would they want you to buy a $100 tire every 30k?
Not true there buddy. Not everybody rides a crotch rocket or a bike that can lean that far to begin with. My bike is a 1600cc cruiser and my floorboards drag at about 20 deg lean ANYWAY. So yes I ride safer and corner better with a car tire, because the sidewall actually HELPS traction at that low lean. Plus I can ride through gravel, snow, and grass. And the majority of darksiders don't do it cause it's cheap. Ever rode one? Or are you just speculating?
Dude, this is the last time I'm saying it, I've ridden for 20 years, I can take apart and rebuild my own engines, and I've ridden both "standard" and darkside tires. Have you ever ridden a darkside? If not then you're just a blind guy shouting that colors don't exist. Anything you think you know about tire dynamics goes out the window when you actually RIDE it!
car tires are not for cornering on a bike
yeah course it does,
ill get onto triumph for you and ask them what theyre playin at puttin bike tyres on a bike, and maybe motogp riders will catch onto it and start realising how much more handling and grip they can get with a car tyre, who cares if you can build an engine, you probably cant ride round bends for shit so u wouldnt know the difference
I corner faster, safer, and more confidently with a car tire - if you haven't run one on your bike, then don't pretend to know what you're talking about.
@neilyoungster thanks! u cruiser riders are more 'organ donors' than sport bike riders cus u cant ride and cant make the bike go round bends even if you wanted to! lol
thats why u resort to fitting car tyres in a desperate attempt to make them handle! get a proper bike in the first place.. job done
That's because you don't know how to corner properly, or you ride a trike, or you ride like you are riding a trike! Car tires a bullshit on bikes - if they weren't cheaper no-one would use them.
thats the biggest load of shit ive ever heard! car tyres are made to sit flat on the road not lean!! so no good on bikes mate!
