It’s a case of the book not really being the source material not in the way that say the HP films were. It’s a completely different story. It’s fine to say you liked the movie better (once you actually read the books) but you can’t say the movies ‘did it better’ because there a completely different narrative
Chill and laid back lmao. Theres a war going on in the last half of the series and lots of the content, if adapted to screens would result in a pg-13 or R rating as opposed to the movies. Dont get me wrong i love the movies but the books and movies cant be compared
Yeah really. The early booka are like a Watership Down PG-13 and the end is like straight up Hard-R Material. I am just look at how Furious is described in that final confrontation with Hiccup. Its utterly bone-chilling but it would had been absolutely beautiful of if it was put on- screen. I'm just so sick to death of every- one saying its "a Kids book" meaning it doesn't matter. Its like the geniuses that thought said Rabbit movie I pulled up was for children, hence why the Netflix Mini-series was so Controversial, and we'll likely never see Redwall properly adapted. We have slews of people who think Rescue Riders was book accurate. Like C'mon!!
Wild take to say the souce material is worse when you haven't even read it. The books are fantastic. Its got such a unique take on dragons that i really found fascinating as a kid. Plus the author put so much love and work into the books. Pages of translations of dragonese words and sentences. And an entire glossary of different dragon species. To be honest i hated the movies, Everything that made the series unique and quirky got completely removed by what i can only asssume were overly meddling producers.
I think there’s a lot of nuance in the books that wouldn’t translate well to the big screen. Hence the changes in the story. If they wanted to do a faithful adaptation, they’d have to do more than just three movies. a LOT more. And honestly, I think stretching the story out that far would severely hinder your enjoyment of the story story. Although I would have to say, I prefer the books.
While both are amazing, the ending of the book series actually made me cry. I recommend it greatly Oh and while the 'hunting dragons' are a lot smaller, the 'riding dragons' are quite MASSIVE compared to the movie counterparts, especially the sea dragons who are equal to mountains
Chill and layed back are not the words I would use. Its more like the movies are being caught up in a rapid. Every book meanwhile- is pilling water into a tsunami that will eventually crash on you.
Book for how to speak dragon knee is my favorite one from the series, but how to become a pirate is a really good book and then toothless is a little green dragon with red and is actually the smallest of all the dragons. He’s a basic brown.
Wdym they are all male? There is a whole clan of women (idk their name in english) and Astrid is basically remade Kamikazi. I hightly recommnd the books. If anyone doesn't want to read the whole thing, you can start with the last four books. That's where all the things go down. Then, if you are intrested, you can go read the rest for more details.
Finally, someone else pointing out that Astrid is basically just a slightly modified version of Camicazi. Personally, I think really they just dialed her down a little bit and fast track her relationship with Hiccup. That and the obvious name change.
I personally stand on the same plane for how to train your Dragon as I do for Percy Jackson. Both sets of movies are perfectly fine as well as the books as long as you don’t compare them to each other other
The books are really good i couldn't really say i like one over the other I genuinely suggest you read the books they are good but they are made for kids so also theres another character in the books thats basically astrid
As a devout fan of both most who love both veiw them as two comeoeltly separate stories and shoulsnt be compared because someone took the idea of a scrawnt viking named Hiccup and a rare praticly one of a kind dragon and a few other names but yeah the moviea didnt nessarily do it better they just did it different
Chill and laid back? Not even mentioning the rest of the book series, Hiccup almost gets eaten like 10 different time and he's younger than httyd 1 Hiccup.
I, as the biggest (fight me) fan of httyd, am inclined to believe that the books and the movies are completely separate entities. The writers of the movies may have gotten the names from the books, but they are almost completely different. They really shouldn’t be compared as though one is better. This is not a “this happened in the book and not the movie.” This is two different worlds who’s characters just so happen to have the same or similar names. And you take it back that the books are laid back, the last two still makes me cry after all these years of reading the same twelve books over and over!
It was based off the books Not an adaptation The books are great but if you’re looking for the movies you won’t find them in the story They’re different
I read a few of the HTTYD books and let me tell ya, it is a rare case that the adaption is more preferable than the oirginal source material. There isnt much memorable stuff that happens in the book too.
Ok hear me out having read all the books and seen all the movies and shows I can find. Laid back is not now I would put it the books are simply less flashy. In the books Hiccup becomes king not chief and is pronounced the "champion of champions" because he beat every viking in a sword fighting competition in book 10. Also toothless in the book is a "hunting dragon" which is why he is not big enough to ride. Hiccup rides Windwalker one of the two fastest dragons in the world and happens to be black like movie toothless. The book Toothless is also not going to be small forever he is actually a sea dragon like the red death however sea dragons get bigger than smaller with age. Gudging by the fact that the red death was in his prime at the time of hiccup the first toothless will grow to be quite a bit bigger than the red death. Hiccup also solves the riddle of Lava Lout island and also finds Grimbeards treasure when he nearly drowns with Fishlegs and Alvin. Edit: Camicasi is Astrid in the books they both like fighting and are extremely good at it although Camicasi is also an excellent burgeler. They also both have a dragon named Stormfly. Sorry it's long, I tried unsuccessfully to keep it short. Feel free to correct me on anything or point out anything missed.(Yes I do know I didn't point out every one of Hiccups achievements but I didn't want it to be even longer than it already is)

the books were just as good as the movie is and from a writing standpoint I’d say even better. It had a lot of depth and worldbuilding that the movie doesnt even come close to. I’m not saying this makes the movie bad, I love the movie, but the books are still iconic
I’m honestly convinced this guy hasn’t read the books himself, there are plenty of female vikings and dear god the books are NOT laid back IN ANY SENSE OF THE WORD (the tree witch traumatized me)
Toothless in the book was a rare kind that lives for centuries he is small because he is a baby he will become the biggest dragon in the world after few centuries

The books aren't bad and they're pretty good, but I agree with the fact the movie changes were done for the better. I don't think the book would've translated as well into a movie. Whoever wrote the movie script was cooking 🔥

Has survived getting eaten by a dragon, burned by dragonfire, and so much more.
Single handedly conqured the viking world with only some aid from his witch of a mother.
REFUSES TO FUCKING DIE!

Tv Show Alvin: Briefly plays a half-
decent villain than randomly turns
good-guy at end of the original run
and only exists in the Netflix show
to troll book fans.
Hiccup: HI Alvin! Great to see You!
Alvin: Same here Hiccup!
(Doesn't even do anything.)
He's voiced by Mark Hamill. Why,
couldn't he be the Real Version?
I used to have the first book and i gotta say, they are 2 different stories, the movies caught my attention better, but ive always enjoyed watching something more than reading it.
The early booka are like a Watership Down PG-13 and the end is
like straight up Hard-R Material. I am just
look at how Furious is described in that
final confrontation with Hiccup. Its utterly
bone-chilling but it would had been
absolutely beautiful of if it was put on-
screen. I'm just so sick to death of every-
one saying its "a Kids book" meaning it
doesn't matter. Its like the geniuses that
thought said Rabbit movie I pulled up
was for children, hence why the Netflix
Mini-series was so Controversial, and we'll
likely never see Redwall properly adapted.
We have slews of people who think Rescue
Riders was book accurate.
To be honest i hated the movies, Everything that made the series unique and quirky got completely removed by what i can only asssume were overly meddling producers.
books are pretty laid back...until you get to the last few. Listened to them on audio book with Snoutlout's dad as the narrator.(Dr. Who, I mean)
I read the books as a kid and it was my favourite series. I was pretty disappointed when I watched the movies because a lot was left out
A lot was added in though
@@_StrayKidsForever_ idk I didn’t really like any of the parts that were added
@@_StrayKidsForever_ the lore in the books were insane
@@GuD0728 I mean the movie was really engaging
@@GuD0728 what was it
That mf had so much plot armour it was crazy
I think there’s a lot of nuance in the books that wouldn’t translate well to the big screen. Hence the changes in the story. If they wanted to do a faithful adaptation, they’d have to do more than just three movies. a LOT more. And honestly, I think stretching the story out that far would severely hinder your enjoyment of the story story. Although I would have to say, I prefer the books.
While both are amazing, the ending of the book series actually made me cry.
I recommend it greatly
Oh and while the 'hunting dragons' are a lot smaller, the 'riding dragons' are quite MASSIVE compared to the movie counterparts, especially the sea dragons who are equal to mountains
Chill and layed back are not the words I would use. Its more like the movies are being caught up in a rapid. Every book meanwhile- is pilling water into a tsunami that will eventually crash on you.
If there's a live action of the books, I can imagine so many CGI, green screens, stunts, props, chaos and money.
Book for how to speak dragon knee is my favorite one from the series, but how to become a pirate is a really good book and then toothless is a little green dragon with red and is actually the smallest of all the dragons. He’s a basic brown.
I love the b ooks im on the 8th one but the movies just have a special carm of nostalgia
Snoutlout got shot by a fire arrow in the chest, fell off his dragon, and fell into the sea, drowning - is that more laid back?!
I want askellad as a htyd villain
I remember the book said something about romans or something? They ate dragons iirc, with honey i think?
The books are sooo much better, i cant even lie
I personally stand on the same plane for how to train your Dragon as I do for Percy Jackson. Both sets of movies are perfectly fine as well as the books as long as you don’t compare them to each other other
OK I love the movies with all my life but the books are epic.
It’s just sad that they made hiccups dad die instead of the guy that hasn’t one leg neither( forgot his name) like it was in the book
Oh but if hiccup would speek to the dragons in the movies it would be gold❤
I, as the biggest (fight me) fan of httyd, am inclined to believe that the books and the movies are completely separate entities. The writers of the movies may have gotten the names from the books, but they are almost completely different. They really shouldn’t be compared as though one is better. This is not a “this happened in the book and not the movie.” This is two different worlds who’s characters just so happen to have the same or similar names. And you take it back that the books are laid back, the last two still makes me cry after all these years of reading the same twelve books over and over!
Dang, so hiccup can speak High Valyrian?
Yes
Lest wait till this guy reads jp novels.
It was based off the books
Not an adaptation
The books are great but if you’re looking for the movies you won’t find them in the story
They’re different
The last one is super epic
Looking at some concepts for the original movie, we see that toothless’ original design looks exactly like the terrible terrors
(The tiny dragons)
I read a few of the HTTYD books and let me tell ya, it is a rare case that the adaption is more preferable than the oirginal source material. There isnt much memorable stuff that happens in the book too.
Vid: the books were more chill
Me: *laughs in Book 8-13* oh honey as if
What's the 13th one
Feel free to correct me on anything or point out anything missed.(Yes I do know I didn't point out every one of Hiccups achievements but I didn't want it to be even longer than it already is)
❤❤❤
Never read the books and only recently found out about their existence. I still think both the books and movies should be considered separate and good in their own ways
Love the movie but love the books as well
the books were just as good as the movie is and from a writing standpoint I’d say even better. It had a lot of depth and worldbuilding that the movie doesnt even come close to. I’m not saying this makes the movie bad, I love the movie, but the books are still iconic
I’m honestly convinced this guy hasn’t read the books himself, there are plenty of female vikings and dear god the books are NOT laid back IN ANY SENSE OF THE WORD
(the tree witch traumatized me)
Toothless in the book was a rare kind that lives for centuries he is small because he is a baby he will become the biggest dragon in the world after few centuries
Bro who didn’t know this? The books are right there lol
As somone who read the books i can confirm the movies and shows are vastly supirior
Astrid influenced the author of books to put more female character(s) in the later books.
OK, Astrid does exist. She just has a different name!!
Still different people.
I read somewhere that the creator of the books liked the changes
"I haven't read the books" "the movie is better".... READ THE BOOKS BEFORE SAYING THIS! I absolutely love the movies separately, but the books are amazing, and honestly get darker and develop a lot more themes, because of this the books are kinda better BUT it's not a direct comparison so I can't really choose
I was raised on the books
i actually read that back in the first grade
Gromit. Did that tree just speak Dragonese?
Astrid does exist in the books. Shes just from a different village than hiccup and is a burglar/theif
The books aren't bad and they're pretty good, but I agree with the fact the movie changes were done for the better. I don't think the book would've translated as well into a movie. Whoever wrote the movie script was cooking 🔥
Absaloutely not the book series is one of the best storylines I’ve ever read and even better than the movies (the love is still amazing though)
i mean its not said in the movie but it seems hiccup can fluently understand dragons
Essentially it's two separate stories with the same main character and similar but not the same endings and a similar but not the same story Astrid did not exist but her counterpart who was probably her inspiration Kamikaze did
It can be seen taht you didn't read the books
I think they should make a movie adaptation of the actual books story.
Astrid does exist, her name there is Kamikazi.
Her dragon, although not a natter, is still named stormfly.
The books are great, the movie is its own thing
Astrid exists, just in the form of camicazi
Sunspot turn to Magneto was totally justified. His own MOTHER TURNED HIM IVER TO THE SENTINELS AND COLLARED HIM!! I would do the same thing. And I’m so glad that they didn’t redeem Bastion. Regardless of his backstory, he still did terrible things and is a sadistic murderer! It’s so satisfying for Rouge and Jubilee put him down after what he did to them
Astrid does exist, there is a clan of female Vikings, and Alvin the treacherous was also in the books
"Astrid doesn't exist-" Did bro forget about Camicazi???
