Would’ve been nice to have a KO 2 next to the KO 3 for visual comparison
Thanks, I show a KO2 at the very end, but not side by side. I'm gonna grab a KO2 and do a comparison soon.
Google them both, do some screenshots, and paste them side by side.
Problem solved.
Everyone knows what a KO2 looks like. Same as a KO with more aggressive sidewall. Been the same since the 80’s. Don’t be helpless.
Visually they pretty much look damn near the same
@@CampusautoCoThank you for theinfo will the ko3 come in a 37x18. thanks.
I feel like the designers of the tire consciously knew that people actually wanted better performance on road over the old KO2, but understood that those buyers were attracted to the very characteristics that made it worse on road. So they made big changes to the side wall to distract people from the marginal decrease in space between the inner tread blocks.
They gambled on people remembering the thousands of times it performed better than their old KO2 on road over the few times it did worse than KO2 off road. A logical choice, but the reason the KO series became popular was that it wasn't designed for the road, so making it closer to road tires people were escaping from seems foolish.
Just my $.02.
An excellent analysis, you are right. I ride KO2s on my 2020 gen1 Ranger Raptor and the only issue I have is fresh rain grip. It seems that they also target this issue.
Nah I appreciate your 2 cents. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I have another comparison. I was running Sumitomo Encounter AT tires last and switched to Cooper Discoverer AT currently and although the Sumitomo had more tread blocks closer together it outperformed the Cooper Discoverer AT's on the same desert trails while aired down.
I agree.
I agree with you. I'm looking at my BFG Rugged Trails and I'm seeing a close resemblance with the new KO3s on the main tread, but not with the sidewalls for sure.
siping is so overlooked!!! Quality tires have significant sipining
Looks like i just found my new set of tires super excited to try these out. 🎉
BFG. Always loved them. Long lasting and digs well in snow😊
Right on! Thanks for watching. I hope this one will do well in the snow too.
This man just taught me everything I know about tire construction.
Excited about this tire.
Great review!!
OMG KO3 is out?!! Amazing surprise
Nice 😍, I think I should wait for them to come-out for my new replacement.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
Sidewall is more aggressive for looks, main tread is tighter for noise and on road performance. But will probably perform like a street tire off road.
Exactly what I was thinking. This appears to be a downgrade for an off roader.
@@phild9813 Yea, tread pattern is so tight, you’d be better off driving on the sidewall. The sidewall aggression doesn’t match the tread.
The tread compound is dramatically different. Calm ur tits.
U think the ranger raptor would come with a street tire? 🤡
I'm sure when ford chose it for the Ranger raptor it was tested and performed the way it should
@@christrarback9748 correct, they understand the average driver will drive 90 percent street.
I have been waiting 2 months for some info on this tire. Thank you
I love your reviews. I have KO2 on my 16 F150 and will wait for you to give us some feedback on your experience with them....thanks.
This is gonna be my next tire for sure! Hopefully they’ll be here in Canada come spring!
Matt, your GMT400 at the end looks super clean! Can you share a photo of the whole truck? I'd love to see it, I love those trucks. Thanks!
I’m excited for the KO 3 , I was never a huge fan of the KO 2 . Great video . Cheers 🇨🇦
Great looking tire, it does look like it'll be quieter than a lot of other tires due to the tighter tread. The sidewall looks mean though, I like it a lot. I wonder if the RFID is going to have something to do with warranty and tracking tire age? Installers can scan the tag when installing and servicing them for warranty claims.
I am on my 6th set of these tires over 3 different vehicles, great tire.
I love how BFG doesn’t make their side walls look like retreads! I have had many sets of BFG All-terrain’s and have always loved the packed snow, ice, and wet performance!
My KO2s suck in the wet. Great on snow, but they slide in the wet.
@@rich7447 same here.
Underrated comment. So many tires separate the sidewall and top tread with an obvious line that just looks bad
I love my ko2s but they suck in compact snow and ice, and not the best on wet when they get old, very bad when old, but when new they are good in wet… I drive in British Columbia and Alberta in the winter….
It looks less aggressive to the ko2 the voids are more narrow. Probably better on road.
Cool video 👍🏾
Goodyear has made a New Duratrac RT. Gets rid of studding options on LT tires, adds more sipes for winter traction, all sizes now start at a load range C and all are winter rated with the 3-peak mountain snow flake. They all also have Kevlar in the sidewall to help cut down on noise, they've also tried to cut down on cupping.
Just get the Yokohama Geolandar G015's. Best daily AT I have ever purchased with ZERO road noise, the best highway manners I experienced in 4 season weather. Running LT285/75R18's Will keep coming back to these
Ha! First comment! Been waiting for you to get your hands on these... Thank you! Nicely done.
What an honor that must be!
@@Icutmetal those that know, know...
Thanks for watching! More to come and glad you liked the video!
I was actually just looking for a more streetable tire to replace my 285/75r16 ko2s, these look perfect, and I really hope they're available in a 10 ply 255/85r16.
Matt,
As always good review. Time will tell if these new KO3 will perform better in the mud?
Recommendation for tire review. Mastercraft Courser CXT. Beast of a tire! It's not a true All Terrain nor a MTX. Running them now on my 2 gen Tacoma. No reviews on this very capable rugged terrain tire. Mastercraft calls it a commercial traction tire.
Matt, we could use your expert analysis reviewing that tire. Thanks for the great content on this channel. Enjoy the reviews.
The KO3 looks like the KO2 and the Trail Terrain had a baby. Not that it's a bad thing, I love the Trail Terrain that we put on my wife's Jeep and the KO2 (or KO3) will likely be what I run on my truck next, but first I have to either get tired of or wear out the Duratracs on my truck.
I like that analogy. A lot of ppl like the Duratracs. Glad they've been good to you.
Duratracs best tire made.
So cool! Looking to buy some truck tires next spring these maybe just the ticket.
That is an awesome looking tire! I currently have the ko2 on my F150. I am do for new tires next spring, hope they are available by then in 275 65 18s!!
Thanks for watching. I feel like they should be available by then.
Seems to me the KO3 could be the best tire for hunters who travel pavement and alot of backroads under various conditions. KO2s preformed very well for me in deep, heavy wet snows. Instead of spinning and turning the base to wet ice they would dig and kick my HD out of everything last winter (Northern PA.). Agree they're poor in mud, but no worse than other ATs I've tried.
Ive had several sets of tires on my super duty.
This is the only tire i can launch at 1800 rpm and slip very little. Good in rain for the most part (beds kinda light)
RFID technology is a market standard technology used for identification. RFID means Radio Frequency Identification: it is a passive electronic chipset that can exchange data with a reader using Radio Frequency (RF) signals.
RFID tags embedded in tires ensure reliable tire identification and enable to build data driven services & solutions: it is a key pillar of connected mobility!
yall sure keep a nice clean shop area
We sure try to.
I absolutely loved the KO2 everywhere except mud. Absolutely abysmal performance in the mud we get here in the southeast. Hopefully they improved on that. Just switched to Cooper STT Pro's and love them.
Be sure to let me know what you think of those Coopers in a couple months time. The KO2 did have a few flaws here and there. Hopefully this fixes that. Still too early to tell.
@@CampusautoCo the biggest downfalls of the STT's are just like any MT. Louder, no mileage warranty, and much more frequent rotations are required. Honestly though they are pretty quiet when new. I only have about 2500 miles on them now but they are far far superior in mud than the KO2.
Here's hoping the 22/32 tread depth keeps them good for a while 🤞
BFG makes the Mud-Terrain T/A for muddy terrain. It's an amazing tire. But there is no such thing as a do-it-all tire. The All-Terrain KO2 gets very close except for mud.
@@wewd the KM3 was honestly what I would have gone with but the price was just a bit too much for me currently. There was an independence day deal that made the Coopers, a direct competitor of the KM3, a no brainer considering their performance.
TKS guys, this will be the replacement on my 22 bronco, I've had good luck with KOs and cooper tires.
That'll be a nice set up. Glad to hear you've had good luck with KOs and Cooper. I like Coopers.
I’m going to stick with the KO2’s on my Gladiator. It’s a little more aggressive and I don’t normally drive faster than 50mph.
They made it look more aggressive on the side for the mall crawlers but made the tread worse for off road. They really know their customers!!!
Than buy a mud terrain
If you need more traction off road than this then, well, get an actual offroad tire. Lol. This is an all terrain.
If they are to replace the KO2s, I would hope they perform better off road. Just seeing them in this video, they do not look as aggressive as the KO2s.
One source of information I found on RFID tags embedded in tires is from Michelin. "RFID tags embedded entires ensure reliable tire identification and enabled field data driven services and solutions: it is a key pillar of connected mobility!"
Interesting, awesome find. Thanks! Yea it's still yet to be seen how they'll do. Maybe I'll throw a set on something and try them out if I can.
No Michelin's for me if that is the case. Interesting.
@CampusautoCo I would be interested to see a real-world, side by side, traction comparison.
This looks like a common tread pattern from BF Goodrich from the 1980s. I like the square shoulders. They look good overall.
Thanks for watching. Those squared shoulders are neat. It'd probably look good on a nice 80's truck too!
Great video.. thanks! I'm sure these new KO3's will be amazing tires. I have E rated KO2's now and just appears mine have a more aggressive tread??
I’ve been wondering when the KO3 would come out. Thank you!
They need to bring back the BFG KM2. I hope the KO3 has the white letter option.
They will pack up with mud even worse than the ko2s with that tighter tread pattern. I see this more as an all weather tire
I just bought these, i hope they work well in snow
As for the RFID chip, im sure it has a lot to do with registration, tracking, date codes etc. and making it easier for the shops to know their inventory better as well as give some sort of feedback to BF Goodrich if/when the customers bring their trucks in for service.
Perhaps its used for the hybrid vehicles to track distance traveled and charge the appropriate road tax since you no longer use the taxed fuels. Dunno, guess we wait and see if the other tire manufacturers follow suit with the RFID chip.
Aint nobody's business how far I travel
Whatever it ant good 😅
Rfid isn't for tire pressure. That's a tpms. RFID is a tag, think of it like a digital barcode where you can scan it and get a small amount of information on it.
The thing that would be really crappy is the ecu on your vehicle could read it and then dealerships void your warranty if you use a non OEM size. That would be my concern.
Sounds shady to me
Good review! Are you still liking the General Grabber ATX? I am finding some really good pricing on those. Trying to decide between it in the D load or a cooper at34s in xl for a Tundra. Spend most of the time on the Hwy so I need to lean toward something good for dry and rain, and not run us out of the truck with noise and be comfortable. Yet still be decently strong enough to not be overly concerned about damage on rough mixed gravel. Thinking the cooper may be the way to go in XL range, or the General in D load, seems few make those in between ranges. Thanks for your input.
You said “fidamints” haha I like it
Hah thanks!
BFG was always my go to tire, but I got tired of having balancing problems, and the white lettering option is very limited now. Still the best looking tire IMO.
I like the balance beads instead of weights..
@@toddschultzandkaysar3530 do you use them with TPMS?
It's a never ending battle with them when it comes to balancing. You can balance a square but it will never be smooth. For such an expensive tire it suffers a lot from out of round or excessive run out
@@gman3563no issues balancing KO2 275/70/18 on my land cruiser. I guess it’s a tire lottery thing.
Not the best performing. Imo the Falken wildpeaks are the best all terrains hands down I’ve ever tried. They shine in every condition and every environment and just does it all better than the ko2. But I will say ko2’s are no slouch and my second favorite all terrain I’ve ever used and I do agree that ko2’s are the best looking AT. The Falken wildpeaks are the only other tire that look as aggressive or almost as aggressive as ko2’s especially the sidewall design, both tires look more aggressive than any other AT and both perform very well but falkens don’t have any balancing problems out of all the times I’ve bought the wildpeaks and their rain and snow performance is insanely good as well as off road. You will be good with either tire in most conditions besides maybe insanely muddy trails but that goes for any tire outside of MT’s
They look a little milder than the ko2 but that may be because of the fact that they are for a 20 inch rim. Wondering if BF Goodrich may come out with a hybrid cross between a A/T and mud tire at some point. I don't do as much off road as i used to but need to be at my job when it snows so id like to try these out. Ive had 3 sets of the older All terrain T/As back in the 90s and early 2000s. They worked good on snow and respectable on the highway at higher speeds. I'll be interested in trying these. They look great.👍
I always really liked BF Goodrich tires but I was extremely disappointed with how small their sizes run lately. I bought the 34x10.5R-17's. I read on the website that they were supposed to only be 33.5" tall, but they actually measured just over 32"! They were only a half inch taller than my factory tires. If they make a proper 35x10R-17 I might give them another try again.
They are like this since forever, 2" smaller than advertised is across the board is fairly common with them unless you buy their race tires which are true to size
Always been partial to the Michelin for the sedan and crossover, coming into hd truck market soon and will have three to test now. Boss, Duratrac, and now KO3. Can’t tell ya how bad been wanting a good ole fashioned dead heat.
How about a review of that HD Terrain? Haven’t seen one yet.
Just had a set of these (275/65/20) on my 2023 F-150 and had to take them off, by far the worst tire I've had on a truck for winter driving. Even with them aired down a little I was still all over the road.
The Tires I had on my truck prior to these were the K02's which i've never had an issue with winter driving.
1:30 Full depth sipping. That's why I couldn't wait to get rid of my KO2's that came on my Tundra. They were barely inspect able but the dealership refused to replace them because they were passable. I thought I was going to die every time it rained.
Mud tire sidewall and Highway tire main tread. Perfect for the mall crawlers that never leave the pavement! 😂
You got that right! 😂
Love my KO2s
I think these would be excellent for my next set of tires on my Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road cuz I'm not really wanting to go to a really aggressive off-road tire and this is a little bit more aggressive than the factory Goodyear DuraTrack. Thank you
I still have the KO2's on my jeep those suckers were awesome in rock mud and the dunes, I was way impressed and mine are over 12yrs old lol
Would love to see a review of the Venom Power Terra Hunter X/T AT
Got mine on our 2013 Jeep JK Sport S 2 door in November of 2018, they still have 45% tread, did phenomenal in North Western Quebec in terrible blizzards. Love the look of the KO3 but will still be this week a new set of KO2. Highly recommended tires!
12 years old! Impressive!
What is the hold up on release? Any insight as to when no OEM and various sizes will be available? I really want a set of these and have been holding out for a set of 275/70R17 for my 4x4 Sprinter Van...not sure how much more I can get out of my current KO2s at 56K miles. The K02s have been great tires, just really noisy now and loosing steam.
This actually looks like a really good tire. The KO2 is great but it has some key weaknesses that have kept me away from them. Might have to try these.
What were these weaknesses for you?
well done!!!!
Thanks!
Please do a review on the new Goodyear Duratrac RT tire.
Could you do a review on the BF Goodwrich HD terrain
I had KO2..not a good result on my 20 F250. Switched to a Falkin Wildpeak with excellent wear and I will have about 45k on them in sometime in February. If the KO3 are available in a 37x12.5x20 I will try them again. Thanks Matt
I’m in Australia 🇦🇺
I’ve never had a problem with bfgs rock solid tyres
The only issue me and other people have , is the lack of road holding on wet roads
The most popular tyre over here is wild peak
Is that the new BFG HD terrain under the KO3? I’d love to see a video of a review of the HD terrain can’t seem to find much on them yet
I have the ko2’s on my truck probably be close to time for new one by the time these come out so probably gonna be putting them on my truck
Awesome! I can't wait to hear more about it. I kinda wanna try to get a full set and test em out myself.
I liked the AT/2 for everything except mud, I ride mostly highway but some oil and gas sites are gnarly so I went with the little more aggressive at3 from toyo
Could you do a review on the PIRELLI
CINTURATO WEATHERACTIVE
Which would you recommend, the K03 or the Toyo RT Trails? I'm juggling between these two. Thank you.
Wow, awesome to see a first look at these. Really looks like they will run quiet.. that's a lot of rubber making contact with the road. Like the stepped up shoulder lugs. Curious to see the offroad performance, seems like a lot smaller voids/spacing compared to the ko and ko2.. great video
They weren’t for me, KO2’s were quieter. I sold them after
@@Icutmetal interesting, maybe its the sharper angles on the center tread. I had the ko2s in a 37 and liked them, I would be interested to see a road review on these ones
Very glad I seen these comments. 🥊 I have been a Toyo RT fan due to tread noise. I do keep in mind the sidewall. Lol
Google search says the RFID is for inventory tracking.
Any news on KO3 availability or sizes? Need 37x12.5R18 w/ 3PMSF.
How do you think they will compare to Open Country A/T III's?
So, I‘m completely new in this terrain and as I live in Austria and we have quite a lot snow regularly I don’t really care about the tires snowperformance cause I need a wintertire. But what is interesting for me is, how is the K03 performing in wet conditions onroad and in wet/muddy conditions on tracks in a forest or off-road-tracks as we can find them in Island with quite a lot stones on the „road“? I‘m in a 4x4 Club for almost a year but didn’t have so many opportunities to take part in small trips but I want to go more offroad in the next years, therefore I need a tire that’s is doing „everything“ quite well except winterconditions … is the K03 probably the right tire for me? Any recommendations? Thanks for your help!
The RFID chip is probably to scan and download the manufacturing information and tire testing results from the factory. Toyo does something similar, but with a barcode to scan that you can email to Toyo for a spread sheet.
Nice! And looks like the K03's will be a little quieter because the pattern look a bit tighter.
I was thinking the same thing-- it's notably tighter with less void. I'd suggest this is overall a less aggressive tire than the KO2s.
Because of that this just became a less desirable tread pattern.
Good, then maybe it won't be so expensive. haha @@brandonm6052
@@4ME2DRV HAHA Like they would give us an inch 🤣🤑
I've been using ko2's since they came out. I've done many, many off road miles and to me it looks like offroad performance of ko3 will be compromised.
Hopefully these are better in the rain! My k02s are garbage with rear end slipping everywhere.
Nice first look! I ran KOs and loved them, but hated the KO2. To me, the KO2 looked like an aggressive tire, but was looks over off-road performance. I’m hoping the KO3 will be off-road performance over looks, but in reality, more people should be looking at the KM3. Im just hoping the KO3 sidewalls will be more durable than the KO2s.
What is the tread depth? The KO2s were 15/32nds if I remember right. I always thought they should be deeper.
My KO2's on my Land Cruiser have never failed me either off road or in the snow. I'm sure I'll buy a KO3 when I need new tires.
Man knows his tires
My baja boss ats has been phenomenon in everything except now they are really starting to get loud and get worse wet traction. 11/32 out of 18/32 so far with 75k miles them.
In your opinion so switch to the falken wildpeak at3w, bfg ko3, or just keep what I have?
Do the BFG All-terrain KO3s have the raised white lettering option?
I realize they're different but my experience and a relatives experience with the old KO's were horrible here in the mtns of Montara, pretty much had to chain up every time in winter you wanted to go off road.
Just got KO2s to replace KOs dated 2004 & 2009 on my 1995 bronco
Would these be good in Texas just daily driving in the city or is it a bit much and unnecessary I never go off roading looking for good tires for freeway and city streets
can you compare this new KO3 with the Trail Terrain for wet roads and snow and ice covered roads?
Will they be undersized like the K02?
I’d like to hear a in truck comparison between ko2, ko3 and a nitto ridge grappler. I know the grapplers are quieter than the ko2’s
This looks like the old BF Trail and KO2 had a baby... hopefully these last way longer than the trails.
Have always loved the KO2’s We used to sell a lot of tires and used to push that tire but we have had so many problems with the run out with that tire. It acts like it’s out of balance but when you watch it on the balancer it has wheel hop or a high spot. So not sure what happened with their molds. I hope this is not the case with this new tire.
Gotta use the road force balancer on the K02
@@dirtyburger7528 we have tried everything and when a tire is not round it does not matter how much weight you put on it it’s not going to fix the problem.
How much longer can these tires last? I remember having the original BFG AT on my 91 Wrangler, and the tread lasted way longer than any other tires I had on that Jeep. The only reason i got rid of that set was because I got a larger set for free. What a mistake it was to change to a free set of Bigfoot or Big O or whatever those junky tires were.
Then they came out with the AT K/O and that was nothing more than improvements upon perfection, and that set was still on the Jeep when i sold it. Those tires never gave me any trouble.
Every new release from BF Goodrich is definitely a great thing to hear about. I'm not sure what thry could inprove upon, except maybe the noise, but then agaon, the last two K/O TA itterations were quiet conpared to other brands.
Can these last longer than before? We can only wait and see.
What tires is the KO3 sitting on in this video?HD terrain?
What would be your number one tire pick for 4x4 f150? Tow a small landscape trailer daily and no more than a dirt road as far as offroading.
Im happy with 6 the k02s on my truck.
Thanks for the videos. I’ve been keeping up on them as my 2022 Ram 2500 Limited is about due to dump the OEM Transforce AT. I’ve been trying to find a clear cut answer as to go with the Michelin Agilis or the KO2’s. Now with the KO3’s coming out I’m even more indecisive. Any guidance? I’m typically on road highway driving and occasionally towing our 36’ travel trailer. Put about 18,000 miles on per year and maybe 3,000 are towing the TT.
It'd be great as a standalone tire model, but if it's intended to replace the KO2, than I'm less than happy about that!
BFGs are notorious for catching, holding, and throwing rocks.
I have tried the bfg ko, ko2 . Both were decent all around tires. I currently have a set of falken wild peak At3 . Much more quiet than the bfg ko2 at first but they are wearing fast and getting louder . May give the new ko3 a try once my falkens are worn out. Nothing really lasts on a 3/4 diesel truck other than commercial rated tires.
That is surprising for the falkens. I have had really good luck with wear and noise. I had horrible luck with KO tires. Multiple sets had one or two defective tires. Also had lots of balancing issues with them.
