An ideal team, except when it isn't. A gorgeous model whom is a photographer "and" that can read her photographer. Wonderful team. First time I have run across you folks in my studies. What I mean by "read" her photographer?... my brother and I made a bundle working for an extreme high-crane outfit. Because we both knew how to run the crane and we knew each other so well... he worked up in the crane and I was his ground man. Quick, efficient, and productive. !!
I love the editing of this one. Showing the actual settings and the good/bad comparisons are great. It *really* helps cuz we can see what you're talking about and explaining first-hand as opposed to just trying to remember what you're saying.
This is a essential viewing channel for anyone including professional photographers/videographers wanting to improve their skills. I call this the learning channel. It's awesome
This is easily one of your best videos. Comprehensive, easy to understand, and well paced. Frankly, you can often ramble and provide unnecessary or inaccurate information, notably in your gear reviews. Not here, though. This video was excellent.
As someone who hasn't taken portrait shots before, I've learnt a lot from this one. Thank you! I've often wondered where to crop a shot of a person and this answered it perfectly!
This is my favorite of the videos I've seen from you folks. Very practical and economical in terms of delivering usable tips. When you mention a technique you follow it almost immediately with an image that demonstrates how that technique affects images. Good job.
You guys are awesome! I feel like I've learned a life time of knowledge from your channel since beginning photography 3 years ago, starting with your iso, aperture, shutter speed example video. I appreciate all you guys do for the community.
Nice tips about the hands and the fill flash! Daughter is getting married on the beach next week and I'm always looking to improve on my shots! Always enjoy your short videos. Thanks again!
I shoot a lot of outdoor portraits and could not agree more with your suggestions. Adding flash is priceless if for no other reason than getting good catchlight in the eyes. Getting the flash off camera and diffused is even better but it's really tough in windy conditions like those without an assistant to help keep stands from sailing over. But that's another video. Nice job.
I know this is an older video, but it might be my favorite so far. Very helpful tips that I'm sure many people hadn't considered previously. Perfect video for someone like myself who is just now getting into photography.
You guys are the best online tutorial I found to learn about my F7200, I still watch your tutorial vids regularly and now have a much better setup! Love your work, Tony you are such an easy guy to listen to and Chelsey is a perfect partner in crime! Keep up the great work!
Love this video. You're not just taking good photographs, you're making good photographs. Really appreciate your tips on how to pose as much as how to be the photographer.
Sorry....I'm sometimes completely distracted by Chelseas beauty....definitely a worthwhile subject....you're a very lucky guy ...great team....I'm learning great stuff from you guys ....thanks !
+Tony Northrup can u do a video where u can teach how to photograph these kind of pictures only with point and shoot ?? cause i have sony dsc wx 220 which i also use for my youtube videos :)
You both work so hard and bless your hearts for taking sooooo much time in putting together all the videos you have out for people like me to learn from :) Do you guys even sleep lol....Thank you so much Tony and Chelsea, your the best!
Thank you so much for this video. Great information. I've taken many photos of objects, landscapes, flowers, etc. but there's a gap in my skillset with portraits and people. I really appreciate this information.
Thanks so much for these videos... I am in a beginning photo film class at the local college. Our assignment this week is all about hard light, diffused light and back light. Very helpful video.
Very glad I found excellent tutorials for my photography hobby. I hope to get half as good as you, Tony and Chelsea. it goes without saying that Chelsea is gorgeous and Tony's not so bad either! Thanks guys!
I'm loving these! I'm getting great input and tips I don't see around much. Also, Chelsea's absolutely gorgeous and all your pictures are 100%, keep up the good work!
Really like your videos. Your explanations are precise; your demonstrations, very clear. And you give detailed data about aperture, shutter, IOS and the lens itself. All these are very helpful. You are great teachers. Thank you very much.
I love these simple videos. They show how easy photography can be. Everything is more a product review now. Wish you guys did this with new gear you have
Love this vid - it's finally not about bringing two assistants, 6 lightstands, and 3 umbrellas :) The blender thing I could live with, but the diffuser is too much for me to carry around. Good that most of the vid does without it. It's nice to focus on using the environment instead of hauling your entire studio out there.
These are great tips, and appreciate insights on flashes. That said, I really like the fractured light on Chelsea's face at 1:28 because it draws attention to her eyes.
Awesome tips and I must say Tony you are truly a very blessed man as Chelsea is gorgeous and also a very beautiful model. First saw her on one of your wildlife video shoots and thought she was just another photographer yet didn't know till I subscribed she was your wife and you also have a beautiful child. Truly your a blessed man and love your videos as have always wanted to do wildlife and other photography and now that I took a early retirement I'm hoping to explore and get more into my dream. Thanks for the tips and looking forward to getting your book soon though I have Lightroom 5 and was going to move to 6 till Adobe went cloud as I have a IT background and not at all a cloud fan. So moved to a alternative Luminar 4 which I'm learning as well yet wonder if maybe some Lightroom book may prove helpful in learning as well. But will start with your main book first and may gear one as looking at the 90d as want to move up from T5 as final camera as lens are my next move and in the wildlife video I first saw Chelsea in I like her lens (can't remember right now have to go back and view) but I've always wanted the 70-200 as my first lens though the f2.8 was a little out of budget for now and would have to go with f4 for now. Now with this video I see how portraits may even prove this to me one of my main photo lens all around. Thanks for the tips and looked forward to viewing more of Chelsea and you videos and website.
I really learn from your videos @tonynorthrup. And yes, you got a beautiful model & surprisingly she is your wife. That's a great relationship between a cameraman and a model, you guys can interact a lot more deeper while posing for some shots, which i guess really need understanding of each other the cameraman and the model.
Excellent and to the point tips. Looks like it was fun to shoot. Cameraman did a great job with the out of focus shots and quick in focus shots when it was the different subjects' turns to speak.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos! You both are fantastic at explaining the techniques. Thanks for all your hard work, feels like the viewer is just hanging out with you guys!
Sweet tutorial. Short, sweet and to the point. I always struggle with portrait pose and the tips with the hands in the same field and also away from the body for slimmer look is pretty awesome. Please do more video like these once in a while :)
@3:54 That flyaway looks intentional for sake of example, but it is actually kinda sexy. We've all dealt with a breeze just at the inopportune time with much worse results, sometimes with even less hair blowing over a face. The blurred foreground element is a cool touch too. Good job!

I really enjoyed how relaxed the pace was, while still being very informative!

Chelsea is very photogenic
She should do a bikini calendar. She can make loads of cash
Chelsea is crazy beautiful..Tony is a lucky man!
Chelsea is beautiful but Tony is an incredible photographer, as well. Good combo.
Tony hit the jackpot for sure! He is a good looking guy as well!
This is easily one of your best videos. Comprehensive, easy to understand, and well paced. Frankly, you can often ramble and provide unnecessary or inaccurate information, notably in your gear reviews. Not here, though. This video was excellent.

Have the same lens and it ROCKS when it comes to portraits and wildlife !!
You guys are a life saver. I can't stop watching your videos!!!
You guys are awesome! I feel like I've learned a life time of knowledge from your channel since beginning photography 3 years ago, starting with your iso, aperture, shutter speed example video. I appreciate all you guys do for the community.
I think Chelsea breaks that 'nobody looks good squinting' rule. :)
Great relaxed. warm, and informative tutorial. Thanks!
Nice tips about the hands and the fill flash! Daughter is getting married on the beach next week and I'm always looking to improve on my shots! Always enjoy your short videos. Thanks again!
This video is a bit of a goldmine of tips! Thanks, Northrups!!

Hey.. looking pretty Chelsea.. and keeping things interesting. Well done Tony
Great tips on hands in particular.
Also - "Nobody looks good squinting"? At 4:58. Chelsea does a pretty good job of trying!
Very very useful advice! I will use this for my outdoor shoots in Bali. Thanks guys
I like it when both of you do the training together. Good job.
Sorry....I'm sometimes completely distracted by Chelseas beauty....definitely a worthwhile subject....you're a very lucky guy ...great team....I'm learning great stuff from you guys ....thanks !
This video is millions.. Thank you,... 1st time photographer and learning tons...
Best portraits video on RUclips. Thank you.
I just got my first portrait job next week, so this video definitely helped a bit with some of the more minor details. Thanks!
+MrKleinReef Glad to help!
+Tony Northrup can u do a video where u can teach how to photograph these kind of pictures only with point and shoot ?? cause i have sony dsc wx 220 which i also use for my youtube videos :)
David Salazar brother i know what this video is about but i'm requesting how to do portraits with p&s ...
+Tajinder Singh that question doesn't make sense. Shooting portraits is the same with any camera.
David Salazar it's not same i guess brother but i know tony northrup can give some great advice that can be used :)
Couldn't have come at a better time! I have an outdoor shoot tomorrow at the beach! Nice refresher and posing tips!!! Thanks!
You two are awesome power couple in my book ! Thanks to you both!
I really like this! Just got a flash and this helps me know how to use it a little bit better.
One of the best videos i've ever seen about portraits
Thanks so much for these videos... I am in a beginning photo film class at the local college. Our assignment this week is all about hard light, diffused light and back light. Very helpful video.
Love it when your model participates in the technical instructions rather than just standing around looking uninterested until they have to pose.
o0OhHh professional photographer + gorgeous model (a photographer, too 💜) + beautiful location = perfect!
Very glad I found excellent tutorials for my photography hobby. I hope to get half as good as you, Tony and Chelsea. it goes without saying that Chelsea is gorgeous and Tony's not so bad either! Thanks guys!
You are amazing Tony and Chelsea!
I love these little excursions ya'll take us on. It keeps me inspired to shoot. Great job, thanks.

A lot of solid tips in a short video. I bought the book a while back and it's equally packed with good material.
I'm loving these! I'm getting great input and tips I don't see around much. Also, Chelsea's absolutely gorgeous and all your pictures are 100%, keep up the good work!

I am impressed, you shoot at 1/30 without tripod and your images are sharp.

Excellent and to the point tips. Looks like it was fun to shoot. Cameraman did a great job with the out of focus shots and quick in focus shots when it was the different subjects' turns to speak.

Great video, guys. Always love everything you post!
I just started getting into portrait outdoor photography and this is super helpful!! Free and very informative 👍. Great content as usual. Thanks guys.
Tony and Chelsea are the best! 😎
Sweet tutorial. Short, sweet and to the point. I always struggle with portrait pose and the tips with the hands in the same field and also away from the body for slimmer look is pretty awesome. Please do more video like these once in a while :)
Great video, Tony!

lots of intersting info, thank you
I agree with you about using zoom lenses. They also can vary the background compression, which is something most photographers don't think about.
Watching this in 2021 and still taking pointers, thank you guys for making this!
How steady is Tony's hands. That crisp at 1/50 wow
IS
@@TwobarpsiOh ok thanks
Thank you for getting to the point and not rambling on and on like every other photography tutorial
Short and concise video. Thanks!
