    Awesome video! Loved you taking the time to let the captain tell the story of the business and how it started. The Viking star is where I caught my first “cow” striped bass maybe 15 years ago with my father on Father’s Day and won the pool with that fish! Will never forget that memory, now my life revolves around striped bass fishing 😂

    Another Long Island native..The captain 🧑‍✈️ mentioned that the family started in Freeport and then moved to Montauk. If you’re not familiar with the landscape of Long Island Freeport is on the south shore of Long Island probably in the middle but closer to NYC. He was probably spending his day and money 💰 going out east to Montauk and beyond to get to the fishing grounds that are still some of the best places to fish in the country. We have it all here.. I saw the comment about the trip we wished you guys should take from fluke, stripers, porgy’s, blackfish just to name a few 😊

    Now that was some wonderful looking weather.
    What a ship!! How awesome is a 144 foot ship. Loved the captain, and his history was great!The coolers were insane.
    Your sleeping accommodations looked a little tight, but I would think better than three days in sleeping bag on the deck.
    Man I would love the fish sleeping till noon.
    Thks to JYG for offering you this opportunity. You did them, and the captain a great job on the video .
    Fish were monsters to average, and that’s part of the fun.

    Epic trip gents. Would you guys please provide the depths you guys fished, the jig sizes (range), and I saw the 30lb braid line sz, but what size leader are you guys using primarily. Usually down here in S.FL we’re using 40-60lb leader and 20-30lb braid pending fishing shallow or deep. Thanks again guys for the great video.

    • @CoastalWorldwide1
      @CoastalWorldwide1  5 месяцев назад +4

      Hey! So the current here is normally very bad. We fished 700-900ft (actual depths were shared with us so we were figuring out as we dropped)
      In the mornings before the tide- we could do 700ft with the 400g deep- but that didn’t last long- as the current pickup up we had to go with the jyg semy 730g and it was tough at times to keep bottom.
      We used 80lb leader on this trip because of structure and fish not being leader shy. But at home in Pensacola we would normally use 30lb braid and 50-60lb leader

    In 1975 we went on a tile fishing trip out of Brielle, NJ. It was a 24 hr trip and we fished in 600' of water. It was also a calm day, but we still needed 6 to 8 lb sash weights to stay on the bottom. Whole squid was the bait of the day. We rented an electric 6/0 reel and pole combo from the boat. We had to sign a paper that said if we dropped Capt'n Bogans pole overboard, we would pay for it. There were a few huge tile fish boated and were called rafts, due to their size. The cost back then was $75. Great trip.

Theyre out in the land of legends Veatch, Hydrographers, I dont think the sea mounts reach 150 fathoms but they're out in that world, places made famous by Barta and the boys when big eyes were money and bluefin weren't worth the ice to pack them in the hold...

    How the technology has changed to make the fish not have a chance.
    When the Tile fishery started, there was heavy mono/ dacron lines, window sash weights for sinkers and Penn Senator 4/0 or 6/0 reels,,,,,,,, lots of fish lost and you would have to go back and free gaff the fish that floated up.
    That Capts father and Don Hager led the way for this NE fishery
