You may recognize that beat Public Enemy as well as Stephen Stills from Buffalo Springfield recorded a song for the movie He's Got Game the title of the song is He's Got Game and it samples this beat.
The singer is Steven Stills (who would later be part of Crosby Stills and Nash) and also Neil Young is in this band (who is also from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young).
Another great song from my youth, and it's still relevant today some 50 years later.. Neal Young had the big sideburns, and Stephen Stills was the lead singer. Great review of great music, blessings Brother.
DUDE, There were protest in the 60s & 70s than younger people could imagine. It's like today but 90% stronger. People were tired of control by the "MAN" and getting beat down. I am so glad I grew up in that era . We saw the Truth then. When the 80s came in everyone forgot. IT'S TIME AGAIN TO WAKE UP. You have a Led Zeppelin hoodie on. Listen to the 60-70s songs and especially anything from Woodstock (the first one) . We the people must RISE...... Ty for playing this song. 👍👍
Quick note - in the line 'What a field day for the heat' - back when this was written, the 'heat' was another word for the police. I assume that's what they meant and I wasn't sure if everyone would know that. Just a bit of context.
As one who was around when this came out, "the heat" definitely refers to the police. Also, Stills wrote this about the 1966 Sunset Strip protests/riots, which escalated into physical altercations between the protesters & "the heat."
The song is about the 1966 Sunset Strip Curfew riots in Los Angeles, the city was going to close the teenage hangouts and mandate a curfew along Sunset Strip.
This song has become an ANTI WAR ANTHEM but it started over the merchants on Sunset BLVD that did not want the clubs staying open to all hours of the night with live music...they felt it would be bad for business...One night Steven Stills was on his way to listen to some live music and when he got there he found hundreds of young people protesting the curfew!! This song was written and released very quickly...more quickly than the protests were stopped...Check it out you can read about it on the web...MUSIC IS HISTORY!!! Love the jams learn the history at the same time...win win!!!
Hey man another great song with Neil Young behind it is Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - Ohio. Keep up the great work brother. Also yes, the Spock lookalike was Neil lol.
The song is about the LA Sunset Strip riots. A curfew was imposed, and young people didn't obey. Police came and started arresting people. When that happened , the riot started.
Neil was the guy with the extreme sideburns and light shirt. He played lead guitar trading back and forth with Stills. He wrote Mr. Soul for the group.
You've probably heard it in a movie that has anything to do with the Vietnam War. This, Jimi Hendrix and CCR are the soundtrack for that topic in movies.
I was 6 when this song came out and I lived close to downtown Detroit when there were riots there, we shut our lights off and sat on the floor. Very scary
The beat from this song has been sampled a couple times and the song has been used in some commercials and stuff. I think Public Enemy sampled it, if I remember correctly.
AMEN brother!! We are more alike than we are different, this song reminds me to slow down and not get caught up in the 24 hour news cycle that seems to drive an artificial anger the past few years. I think what's most disappointing to me is that the actions they where calling out continues today. I recommend CSNY "Ohio" as a follow on, a statement on the death of students at Ohio State by the National Guard, Stephen Stills and Neil Young together again in a protest song.
Devin great reaction but you should research the protests of the 60's. A turning point in the history of your country. Also listen to "Ohio" another great protest song.
That song by buffalo Springfield Came out in 1967During that time A lot was going on in the 60s Change over president C. Robert Kennedy was killed In 67Martin Luther king was killed in 68Lot of black riots going on Vietnam war where young men dying over and Vietnam Young adults with speaking out
Springfield Rifles were used to hunt Buffalo and the 1873 Springfield trapdoor carbine was used by the 10th Cav Buffalo soldiers. ¿Buffalo Springfield?
They were protesting a WAR called VIETNAM, I went in country at 19, came home at 22, treated like crap by the people they sent me, kicked to the curb. Born in 1950 clp
Not Shown In This Video,, During This Same Performance,, Just As This Video Fades Out,, Neil Steps Forward & Busts Into His Song "Mr.Soul"..If You Look For Neil Young "Mr. Soul" Video & Watch It,, Neil Delivers A Butt Kickin' Performance Of This Song..Truth!!
Problem today is, we are divided- but the division isn't really about race or civil rights- it is really about those that see America as a great Nation with some things that need adjusted and those who don't and want every institution within it torn down and rewritten, including our Constitution.
Bro get some Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on here…best American rock band ever in my opinion…hit after hit after hit after hit…never sold out, stayed true to REAL rock n roll, LEGENDARY. God bless you Devin, respect my man
People were protesting against the Vietnam War. You didn't have a choice. If your draft board called your number you went into the armed forces. College kids were deferred.
What? You just said you don't know what they were protesting or what was going on in the 60s. This is where I stopped watching the video. Learn some history.

You may recognize that beat Public Enemy as well as Stephen Stills from Buffalo Springfield recorded a song for the movie He's Got Game the title of the song is He's Got Game and it samples this beat.
1967 my dude. Let's all pray for peace. Let's all fight to bring our wayward brothers & sisters with us.
This is one of the greatest songs of the 60s. I love your reaction Devin. You might enjoy the song "Ohio" by Crosby, Stills & Nash.
The singer is Steven Stills (who would later be part of Crosby Stills and Nash) and also Neil Young is in this band (who is also from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young).
so relevant even today - especially today. What does this tell us? That we never learn.
TRUE WE NEVER LEARN
THE WORLD IS ALWAYS AT WAR SOMEWHERE
The message is as relevant today as it was then! ☮️❤️
Another great song from my youth, and it's still relevant today some 50 years later.. Neal Young had the big sideburns, and Stephen Stills was the lead singer. Great review of great music, blessings Brother.
Very relevant
Now that you say that I notice he sounds like Steven Stills
And the guy wearing the turtleneck is Richard Furay.
DUDE, There were protest in the 60s & 70s than younger people could imagine. It's like today but 90% stronger. People were tired of control by the "MAN" and getting beat down.

My husband was a combat medic in Vietnam and he always said the one good thing about being was the music
You also have to realize/remember that the people doing the protesting in the 60s are running the government today.
I think our generation know that but todays kids wouldn't know it
One of my most favorite songs. I just love your ability to respond so naturally.
The Vietnam War was going on back then. There were lots of protest songs about it back then.
The song is about the 1966 Sunset Strip Curfew riots in Los Angeles, the city was going to close the teenage hangouts and mandate a curfew along Sunset Strip.
Devin, you are awesome,
This became a theme song for Vietnam protestors, and soldiers.
One of the iconic songs of the 1960s. 50+ years on and it still sounds great and it still resonates. As much as things change, some things never do.
I really love how he's genuinely just enjoying the music and taking all of it in
HUGE song during Vietnam!
One of the greatest songs ever written! Fooken’ brilliant......
Late 60's was an explosion of new original musical sounds and lyrics and much experimentation.
The song is about the LA Sunset Strip riots. A curfew was imposed, and young people didn't obey. Police came and started arresting people. When that happened , the riot started.
This band had several of my childhood musical heroes in it. Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Richie Furey and I think at one time even David Crosby.
Neil was the guy with the extreme sideburns and light shirt. He played lead guitar trading back and forth with Stills. He wrote Mr. Soul for the group.
You've probably heard it in a movie that has anything to do with the Vietnam War. This, Jimi Hendrix and CCR are the soundtrack for that topic in movies.
all time classic and still pertinent protest song
Just another song that from decades ago can be relevant today! Great song!

If you want some more from Buffalo Springfield- I highly recommend “Bluebird”, “Mr. Soul”, and “Learning to Fly”.
The beat from this song has been sampled a couple times and the song has been used in some commercials and stuff. I think Public Enemy sampled it, if I remember correctly.

The riots (aka the Watts Riots) in Los Angeles in the sixties were devastating!!!
Stills was inspired to write this regarding the Sunset Strip protests/riots of 1966.
the best War & Culture protest song ever !
The song was used a lot as Vietnam protests
After Buffako Springfield Grahm Nash and Neil Young went on and joined Crosby and Steals to form Crosby , Steals ,Nash ,and Young !!
Public Enemy remixed this for Denzel's "He Got Game." You may have heard it then...
the best 60's anti war anthem.
Do a Dusty Springfield song called. Son of a preacher man. I think you’ll love it too.
That song by buffalo Springfield Came out in 1967During that time A lot was going on in the 60s Change over president C. Robert Kennedy was killed In 67Martin Luther king was killed in 68Lot of black riots going on Vietnam war where young men dying over and Vietnam Young adults with speaking out
Remember that Crosby Stills Nash & Young came out of this band.

Springfield Rifles were used to hunt Buffalo and the 1873 Springfield trapdoor carbine was used by the 10th Cav Buffalo soldiers.
¿Buffalo Springfield?
Buffalo Springfield took their name from a brand of steamrollers that one of the band members happened to see one day.
This was kinda the beginning. The next year Neil was writing about 4 Kent State sstudeds.
They were protesting a WAR called VIETNAM, I went in country at 19, came home at 22, treated like crap by the people they sent me, kicked to the curb. Born in 1950 clp
