I love this game. It seems this series and this game have been forgotten as do a lot of really good rpg's that don't quite recieve the "instant classic" acclaim that others get. Thank you for giving 7th Dragon 3 a spotlight.
But of course! This was the game that made me realize the series existed at all, so I knew I had to do it. And now I need a new franchise to milk for a while, haha.
@@TheHipsterSnek there’s always Etrian Odyssey, long running Atlus franchise... that is almost completely over shadowed in notoriety by Shin Megami Tensei and Persona... especially Persona
I let out a gutteral laugh when you said "You of course start with the samurai", and sadly it's far too true 😂. I recently got a 3ds and I wasn't sure how much ide like this game but it's a really cozy chill grinder.
I randomly found this game via a trailer and it I didn't want to see anymore. I bought it the day it came out, got the special edition, loved the art style the music (holy crap the music) and the story from ...well just this game was fine. I wasn't aware of all the stuff that went down in previous games which makes it a bit weird but on it's own I really enjoyed this game and wish I could convince more to try it. I got my friend & cousin to try it, they enjoyed it. For anyone reading this I'd avoid the post game. It's a sharp difficulty spike with very, very little pay off. And I mean a giant difficulty spike, it feels like jumping 2 difficulty modes where the game can kill you before you get a single move off vs the rest of the game - which wasn't very hard.
I remember playing the demo for this game back in High School when I was 16(?) and fell in love with it. After I got my party to the max level cap in the demo and got as far as I could, I later picked up the full game. The art book was an unexpected surprise as well. This game is one of my favorites on the 3DS, alongside Stella Glow and a few others on the system. 💟💖
Only reason I know this game exists is because I picked it up out of curiosity at an EB Games years ago. Only reason I know it's even a series is because I became curious yet again, and looked for more info on the game. It seems really obscure sadly, but I suppose that's to be expected when we only got the 4th and final game officially in English. They're all pretty fun and have English fan translations now, and it's cool that you can see the Etrian Odyssey DNA, especially in the first game.
@@TheHipsterSnek Iirc, after fighting g Takehaya, the fight with Haze ends with him being sealed inside Eden’s Dragonslayer, which would then be used on Niara.
finally able to watch this video after clearing the game last week, the causation part of changing the past can actually be seen on why theres ladyin tower (atlantis sacred ground) in the middle of kazan, if the atlantis lucier proceed with their plan to sink atlantis along with nyarla, then the ladyin tower wouldn't have survived that intact plus there's no big tower like that near kazan on the ds game (save it for the crimson tower but I don't think ladyin has any dragon motive in it compared to the ds crimson tower). And apparently haze was sealed at the top of the tower instead in the miross forest (they could move the dragonslayer sealing haze but then again nobody in the future knows how to open the door) overall, the game is great, the illusory realm is kinda bit a letdown ending at blaster raven instead of somekind of extra hyperboss, and insomnia is also here lmao and oh, the final boss is definitely looked like something that came from spyro
Alright got a couple of bones to pick with you in the time travel segment. First off, we don't slay Nyala in Atlantis, we merely wound it. Our actions are why the Nyala that is fought in 2020 has a damaged wing. During the far-flung future of Eden, there are in fact references to the events of the first game as well as mentioning the Protagonist party having saved the world a while back. As someone who has played/is playing all these games with an exclusively female cast (mostly because Nana Mizuki & Yukari Tamura provide character voice options in 2020, 2020-II, & Code-VFD, along with 9 other Nanoha alumni in 3), it's interesting to see a more male design focused team.
You are as wise as your avatar is awesome (not being sarcastic here - you're both correct and I love GaoGaiGar). Yes, I abridged the story recap a LITTLE bit more than I should've, so that's definitely a my bad, but I was kind of trying to do the highlight reels. But Nyala really is a punching bag in this series. I've actually done both, amusingly enough, as my first 2020 team was all-female. Though my parties in the first and third games were mixed. So it's always cool to see how others customize their teams.
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer Well, that depends on what you consider the Lucier's final weapon? Is it some advanced technology that we never see? Is it the Oricalcum Dragonslayer weaponry? Or is it simply the decision to sink Atlantis? The written history of Atlantis & the Lucier in the modern era is almost intentionally vague, so as to allow the player to come to their own conclusions about how much the effects of our trips through time are what originally happened, and how much is creating a new timeline. At the end of the Nyala boss fight, we cut off one of its wings using a Lucier forged Oricalcum Dragonslayer. I'd say that counts as the Lucier's final weapon, wouldn't you?
@@rileymartin8284 what throws a wrench into this is the side quest involving fish, we see the timeline actually change where a species that thrived from the Lucier’s corpses disappeared entirely during the side quest so it’s clear that time did indeed change and not a form of closed loop
Eh, Enlyl had a significant development in 2020-2, less ruthless and actually care about the people other than just kill dragon, and this game seems to...forget that. And Altyl only simps for Takehaya, that all, that’s her entire character.
I remember the event you're referencing, but it also raises another huge set of problems. 7th Dragon the first being, in chronology, set AFTER the 2020 war, which means Emille's character arc is circular, at best. Ignoring it for the sake of 7th Dragon 3 is probably all they realistically could do about it, seeing as how the events of 7th Dragon 1 are part of the future segment. I assume, of course, and guessing creator intent is always dicey, but that's how it seems to me.
Whoa .... I had no idea how awful the Hypnos sisters were until this video. Makes me look at them in a completely different light now.....That said it makes me wonder what point Sega was trying to make with those two. But then again it's Sega. They most likely didn't bother to think it through unless this was REALLY their intention.
If I had to guess the author's intent - always a bit of a dubious prospect to be sure - it seems that, surface-level, they wanted the player to sympathize with Emille and Aitelle as victims of circumstances. That the sympathy we'd offer on behalf of their lost civilization would either justify - or at least meaningfully distract from - their laundry list of sins. And I might've just let it go as an anti-heroic streak, had they not shown up in 7th Dragon 3 as part of the last leg of the game. In fact, when I finished recording this script, my Tomo Bro, Dietaku, asked me if I felt better for it. And, yeah - must admit, I totally did.
@@TheHipsterSnek Yeah. It did seem....Forced. But in a way I guess this was Sega's way of wrapping up their Arc..... No Matter how flawed it is. But I agree. It does feel annoying to have them shoehorned in.

If I remember correctly you only get 20 voices per gender and they are completely tied to gender unlike etrian odyssey V and Nexus which I believe had the option for having the highest girliest voice come out of the oldest most burly man and vice versa
Unfortunately you can't - the other guy is spot on, I've just been through the character creation process. That being said, there were some pretty deep, verging-on-masculine voice options if you're after a trans self-insert.
