    Thank you for this excellent concise demonstration of how to fit prong collar on your dog.You made it so simple.

  • @urdadtm5854
    @urdadtm5854 5 лет назад +32

    This prong is fitted WAY TOO LOW. Up behind the ears and under the jawline. Never at the base of the neck like that.

    • @MyleeBenoit
      @MyleeBenoit 5 лет назад

      Bakuwu at the top of the neck when it’s already tight causes EXTREME pain on a dog. When you put the prongs on the side of the neck away from the trachea it only makes pressure not pain!

    • @urdadtm5854
      @urdadtm5854 5 лет назад +2

      @@MyleeBenoit While what you say is.. almost correct.., it shouldn't be horribly tight at the top of their neck. The lower it is, the more pain it will actually cause. It should be snug at the top of their neck, under their ears.

    • @MyleeBenoit
      @MyleeBenoit 5 лет назад

      Bakuwu the top of the dogs neck is the most sensitive part of a dog otherwise the mouth. So that’s why the prongs should be on the side of the neck low because it will only put a certain amount of pressure on the dogs neck, when it’s already tight on the top of there neck it applies more pressure when the handler wants to correct the dog so it’s not fair and it hurts the dog!

    • @AJS421
      @AJS421 2 месяца назад

      @@MyleeBenoitI thought the same thing for the longest time. But after consulting with several professional trainers and watching countless RUclips pro trainers every single one said to place it behind the ears at the top of the neck. If you’re interested in why that’s the proper way, look up any pro trainer video featuring prong collars.

    • @MyleeBenoit
      @MyleeBenoit 2 месяца назад

      @@AJS421 no! I’m professional canine trainer and have multiple professional canine trainer friends. It can go on the middle of the neck as long as the placement is towards the side. But either way prongs are strictly made to not hurt your dogs and it’s not gonna hurt your dog, even if it was in the middle of the throat because it divides pressure evenly. It’s not like a flat collar. Maybe learn some more.

      Some dogs are great with a regular collar and some need more. I’ve used one for my German Shepherd and it is the only way she will walk without dragging anyone holding the leash. This was something a dog trainer who works with K9s used to help us be able to train her to walk properly on a leash. She only wears it when we walk and when we pull out that collar she knows and literally jumps around in joy to get her walk.
      We tried lots of other collars etc but this was the only one that worked. My GSD is part of our family pack, sleeps with me and gets home cooked meals daily.. lots of play in our backyard and walks. The prong collar was a life saver for being able to walk her.

    For starters , you put it on in the wrong place, it should rest at the base of their skull, high up, not down low. Also, most of the people in this comment section think a choke is better/safer. Do some research for once people. Choke chains are less effective and much easier to misuse and harm the dog. Prong collars used properly are a great training tool and will not harm the dog. Stop talking out of your collective asses. If your watching youtube, you have internet access...so hit up google and read/watch more than one or two things before you think you know all.

    To all you people saying “DONT USE IT” go learn EXACTLY how to use it effectively and realize it’s better this than it attacking or getting attacked by another dog or it’s trachea being crushed and it having to get surgeries to be able to breathe and eat properly.
    I am making a fur suit and I bought and have been wearing a tail and collar and have corrected and pulled on the collar and it hurts just with only a bit of pulling, now imagine your entire body weight and that has to hurt like hell or at least leave the poor thing in pain and very very sore.
    It is abuse to *not* use a prong collar if you know nothing is working to fix the issue, unless there is some kind of health issue you should use the prong collar and spare your dog that crap.

      Shocking, a furry abusing their dog

    • @bellw5834
      @bellw5834 4 года назад +1

      Kyouko Toshino
      I don’t have a dog and it isn’t abuse when used correctly. Letting a dog hang itself with a flat collar when there are humane tools like the prong is abuse, letting a dog hurt itself on the prong collars by letting it pull is abuse.
      It is easy to abuse a dog when it comes to leash pulling or other behavior issues.
      I’s better for the dog to have minor discomfort than to, go through surgery or get hit by a car from breaking a collar and running off. (yes that has happened)
      So many dogs are put down a year and most are dogs with “leash aggression” or other leash problems and need a fast solution because if they don’t get it they could and would die because of the unfair laws in the USA.
      If a dog is aggressive, it gets a punishment for being aggressive just like a mom dog would would teach her puppies, if the puppies are being too aggressive with play or bite after being given a warning not to bite she nips them in the scruff or other place.
      That is what the prong collar does.
      I would be very willing to give a link of the difference between correct use and incorrect use with a “leash aggressive” dog if you would like.
      Please let me know and have a civil discussion with me.
      I want to know why you think it is abuse and what exactly would make it not abuse.
      Please respond with an equally typed comment because I spent time writing this please and thank you.

    • @bellw5834
      @bellw5834 4 года назад +2

      Kyouko Toshino here is a video about how the prong is used correctly and he also shows that pulling has no effect on the dog, while a split second pop of the leash is enough to stop the dog from being aggressive.

      The prongs bend in and it pinches him. He would be fine. The prongs arent sharp and are rounded. However, if your dog continues to pull after trying all collar methods i would look into professional training. Only because pulling on any leash and collar can cause injuries. Especially flat collars. They can collapse the trachea of a dog. So be careful. Every dog is different. I find using the prong with positive training methods is working best for my dog.

      Ok then use the collar I use for my dog. A chain collar sometimes punches depending on how hard your dog is pulling. Plus if you train your dog well enough you won’t even need a leash. I have a black lab and she doesn’t need one she won’t run off or attack ever.

  • @lace.x3264
    @lace.x3264 6 лет назад +12

    i cant believe people are starting to use this thing!!!???? imagine having a cold metal chain collar with studs that pinch your skin as training! dogs pull on the leash because they are young are want to explore this new enviroment, but people ruin it by putting a prong collar on the dog, forcing it to walk normally and ignore new sights and smells, and even if the dog pulls he/she gets pinched by the prong collar, wow

    • @zig3
      @zig3 5 лет назад +16

      A dog pulling on a flat collar can cause more damage to the trachea because it's force is concentrated on the dog's trachea. A prong collar on the other hand distributes that force evenly along the neck to avoid damaging their fragile thoats. If used correctly and humanely, a prong collar should be much safer than using a flat collar with a dog that pulls. Never yank super hard on a prong or standard flat collar, that is abuse. this is a training tool so in time you shouldn't have to use it anymore once the dog learns to walk at heel. The dog should also be getting positive reinforcement for being good and walking at heel. This tool should not be used as some sort of torture or punishment for pulling.

      Imagine your 2 year old dog, that likes to run off when she goes outside to use the bathroom, gets hit by a car....Some dogs just require a chain like this. She if fine walking around outside doing her business than she comes back in and we take it off. The only cruelty in this is if it was left on for hours at a time, making it uncomfortable for them to lay down.

      Horse I’ve put this around my neck and pulled as hard as possible. My dog isn’t young, he’s 8 and had a pulling problem when other dogs were close. A prong fixed it in just a few minutes.

    • @Zireling
      @Zireling 5 лет назад +3

      Naturally you try other merhods before resorting to a prong collar. However if nothing is working a prong collar is almost guaranteed to work. Its not cruel. You can still let your dog explore. This is just an option for dogs who like to run off and pull so extremely on regular collars that it could possibly collapse their trachea.
      Its only cruel if left on your animal. That is abuse. Only because skin can grow around it and it can rub on the skin if left on all day. Especially a wet dog. Which would cause sores. But just like other training tools ita fine if uses properly

      Its a lot less invasive compare to a shock collar or shock fence.
      Its also only used as a training tool. Not a permanent solution. Some dogs do not reciprocate to positive reinforcement training.
      If a dog doesnt and continues to pull on a regular nylon collar or leather collar they can collapse their tracheas. This is a method that discourages dogs from pulling for that very reason. It looks terrifying but its really not as bad as you would assume. The pinching is a gentle pressure. A mother dog grasping her puppies neck would apply more pressure than these prongs.
      The prong collar is only cruel when left on an animal. As it can lead to the skin growing around it and infection which is just the owners ignorance.

      Choke chains and flat collars are actually the worst options for a puller. Prong collars distribute the force of the pull. Causing the prongs to turn inward which pinches the dog. Mimicing a mother biting the neck except this is around the entirety of the neck.
