    I don't use them for every dog, or even for most dogs. But when I do, I actually put one on myself and let owners correct me with it, so they can see that it doesn't hurt and isn't meant to hurt. The problem is that there are a lot of people who don't have correct timing or pressure, so it's not a tool for everyone. I look at them like a surgeon's scalpel: it's a specialized tool designed to help when all other options are ineffective. But, just like a scalpel, you have to be trained how to use it properly, otherwise you can hurt someone accidentally.

    I love prong collars - took the time to learn how to properly use them with my two american bulldogs, and they worked fantastically well. However, I cannot use them with my new rescue Galgo (a sighthound breed) b/c Galgo skin is incredibly thin - it can split open like a banana if cut, so even a minor cut can result in thousands of $$ for surgery. That, plus the fact that their necks are larger than their heads, has me using a martingale collar + a harness, but the correction from the martingale feels 'squishy' to me, since I'm used to the crisper prong collar corrections, and there's really not much of a correction possible with the harness. Any suggestions on how I can offer lighter/crisper corrections for this pup without harming him?

      The prongs are too loose. You have to squeeze them together to fit them thru the slot, and sometimes the entire link gets squeezed into a smaller shape. Find the link that slides in and out the easiest, and pull the prongs away from eachother to make it tighter when you squeeze it to fit it into the slot.

    Can I use this on my six month old Yorkiepoo? He's 10 pounds. Constantly pulls on the collar when we go for walks

      Please don't. Just try other ways. There are multiple other options you have to train your dog. If it pulls nothing moves. If no pulling is happening you praise.

    We just bought a prong collar today. I almost had a melt down in petsmart because I decide to take my dog with me. 🤦🏽‍♀️ could barely get her still long enough for me to get the correct size. When we got home I decided to walk around the block with her with it one ... completely different dog. Not perfect but a big difference!!

      Karen Veracruz heyy! That’s awesome!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼If you end up having any kind of issues with the prong collar you got- move to a Herm Sprenger brand, it’s the only brand of prong I’ll use👍🏼
      Congrats on the progress, that’s so great!!!

    Hi I need your help. I rescued a 2yr old Donbie during Covid lock down and she was afraid of absolutely everything. We have worked really hard and she’s come along way but I need your help. She seems to be hyper sensitive to noise so when I’m walking her if we come near a busy street with a lot of people or a lot of cars or ESPECIALLY near children playing with basketballs she freaks absolutely out and tries to dart away for me. In the past she’s caught me off guard and managed to get off her leash and run across a busy street while I was yelling out her name it’s kind of like that “squirrel!” Situation, I have started to walk her in the evenings or early mornings when it seems to be calm and quite out but I would really love to help her get past this fear especially since I’m a nature loving person who loves to travel and visit different parks, can you help me?

    Hi and thank you so very much for the help with the pinch collar. Well I have a problem. I have a absolutely beautiful German Shepard. 1 huge issue. Hes not demonstcated. Sam who's my GSD doesn't want anyone near me. It's horrible. I love him so much but honestly he's gonna hurt someone. I've tried ans hes so amped up he almost wants to turn on me. I love him deeply. After I lost my youngest son I got Sam and wow what a job. Non stop play ▶play its crazy. He's 5 but he wants to play. Sam has saved my life but, I'm scared he's gonna hurt someone. Can you help me please. It's so scary to take him out and he doesn't even know his name when I'm trying to stop him. What can i do to stop this ? He's strong and my back can testify to that. Please share your thoughts if you would please and thank you for your time. I'm looking v forward to hearing back from you.
    Sincerely,
    Terri and Sam

    I got 3.8mm for my SPOO (Standard Poodle) Is it too big? I took a few links off it but it keeps sliding down. I was recommended to you by the Standard Poodles Face book page

    • @RescueDogTraining
      @RescueDogTraining  4 года назад +1

      JodyM2 oh dang! 3.8 is pretty big- the 3.0mm is going to be the go to, for most large breeds, even a standard poodle(depending on weight)the only time I will ever go up in size to the 3.2mm is if I’m working with a baby rhino, like a 200lb rottie, or corso... one of the big thick necked dogs

    How do you begin training a dog that is aggressive towards you? Since my dog attacked me a few weeks ago, he lunges to bite me whenever he sees me. I want to try to teach place and the structured walk but I'm worried if I get close to him he'll attack again.

      Did u have him since a puppy? To me that attitude sounds like he’s free to do whatever he wants. You have to let him know you’re the boss and be strict. How are things now?

    Hi. I have the 3mm collar for my recently rescued Boxer-mix. I've removed a few links to fit the collar, but it still slides down his neck as we walk & I have to constantly readjust it (exactly as you've described it in your video). If I remove an additional link, however, the collar becomes obviously too tight. It's like his neck is "between sizes". Do you have any suggestions for this situation? Thanks!

    • @RescueDogTraining
      @RescueDogTraining  4 года назад +1

      Ken Winston I hate that in between spot! The better you get at handling the leash and giving feedback, the better your dog will get at the structured walk, and the prong will eventually be a back up. You won’t have to fuss with it so much...
      In the meantime, I would suggest 2.5mm, the smaller gauges can fit better for some bigger dogs with that little needle hair, coat.

    I have no problems getting it on and off the way you have shown, but I took it off between a link and the plate that says sprenger and now for the life of me can’t figure it out 😭

    • @RescueDogTraining
      @RescueDogTraining  4 года назад +1

      Flip the link. The one attached to the plate, flip it and let it slide down- it got flipped backwards
