SERIOUSLY !!! I feel like I cannot pinch mine hard enough to connect the links back . I’m struggling to do it off my dog , I can only imagine the amount of trouble I’m going to having when the collar is on my dog
I don't use them for every dog, or even for most dogs. But when I do, I actually put one on myself and let owners correct me with it, so they can see that it doesn't hurt and isn't meant to hurt. The problem is that there are a lot of people who don't have correct timing or pressure, so it's not a tool for everyone. I look at them like a surgeon's scalpel: it's a specialized tool designed to help when all other options are ineffective. But, just like a scalpel, you have to be trained how to use it properly, otherwise you can hurt someone accidentally.
God, THANK YOU so much!!! I am pet sitting in the owner’s home for 2 weeks and they did NOT show me how to use this collar. They just hook it/unhook it. As if! 🤪 The doggo’s have been so sweet and patient with me while I struggled with it. You are a lifesaver. 🙏🙏🙏

I love prong collars - took the time to learn how to properly use them with my two american bulldogs, and they worked fantastically well. However, I cannot use them with my new rescue Galgo (a sighthound breed) b/c Galgo skin is incredibly thin - it can split open like a banana if cut, so even a minor cut can result in thousands of $$ for surgery. That, plus the fact that their necks are larger than their heads, has me using a martingale collar + a harness, but the correction from the martingale feels 'squishy' to me, since I'm used to the crisper prong collar corrections, and there's really not much of a correction possible with the harness. Any suggestions on how I can offer lighter/crisper corrections for this pup without harming him?

Love your videos! My dog goes crazy ONLY when she sniffs other dogs. She can walk past them, and get pretty close but when they meet she will loose her mind. Any ideas as to why?
I am concerned I ordered the wrong size for my dog i told a trainer her weight was 40lbs and they told me to get 2.25 but everything else is saying 3. Will the 2.25 hurt her if she is over 30lbs?
I got the herm sprenger in 3.0 for my 60 pound golden. It works like a charm!! However I run into the issue of it sliding down her neck. It fits snug when I put it on but if I remove one more link it is too tight and won’t close. I’m thinking it’s her soft coat that makes it slip?! Any suggestions
Brie Ferrara the better you get at the structured walk, the less you’ll rely on the prong collar. In the beginning, anytime you stop, have your dog sit and adjust the collar. That in-between stage can be annoying
I just picked one up for my wheaten but he’s 5 months old is it too soon for him to go on a prong collar? - he’s extremely reactive to putting on collars or harnesses and he pulls horribly. I haven’t been able to correct either behavior with the common tips and tricks recommended online. I have him on a martingale collar now but I haven’t been able to get the prong on him without him biting at my hands I just got it yesterday. Any suggestions?
jprtecos watch the video, “my dog won’t let me touch his paws” on this channel Counter conditioning, do the same thing with the collar Your collar should be a Herm Sprenger. You can get it on amazon or chewy- If you got something from a pet store, I highly suggest taking it back or tossing it in the trash.
My prong collar popped off while picking my child up from school and my dog got loose.. it popped from a prong attachment, do you know why this happened or how to make sure it doesn’t happen?!
The prongs are too loose. You have to squeeze them together to fit them thru the slot, and sometimes the entire link gets squeezed into a smaller shape. Find the link that slides in and out the easiest, and pull the prongs away from eachother to make it tighter when you squeeze it to fit it into the slot.
Please don't. Just try other ways. There are multiple other options you have to train your dog. If it pulls nothing moves. If no pulling is happening you praise.
We just bought a prong collar today. I almost had a melt down in petsmart because I decide to take my dog with me. 🤦🏽♀️ could barely get her still long enough for me to get the correct size. When we got home I decided to walk around the block with her with it one ... completely different dog. Not perfect but a big difference!!
Karen Veracruz heyy! That’s awesome!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼If you end up having any kind of issues with the prong collar you got- move to a Herm Sprenger brand, it’s the only brand of prong I’ll use👍🏼 Congrats on the progress, that’s so great!!!
Hi I need your help. I rescued a 2yr old Donbie during Covid lock down and she was afraid of absolutely everything. We have worked really hard and she’s come along way but I need your help. She seems to be hyper sensitive to noise so when I’m walking her if we come near a busy street with a lot of people or a lot of cars or ESPECIALLY near children playing with basketballs she freaks absolutely out and tries to dart away for me. In the past she’s caught me off guard and managed to get off her leash and run across a busy street while I was yelling out her name it’s kind of like that “squirrel!” Situation, I have started to walk her in the evenings or early mornings when it seems to be calm and quite out but I would really love to help her get past this fear especially since I’m a nature loving person who loves to travel and visit different parks, can you help me?
Hi and thank you so very much for the help with the pinch collar. Well I have a problem. I have a absolutely beautiful German Shepard. 1 huge issue. Hes not demonstcated. Sam who's my GSD doesn't want anyone near me. It's horrible. I love him so much but honestly he's gonna hurt someone. I've tried ans hes so amped up he almost wants to turn on me. I love him deeply. After I lost my youngest son I got Sam and wow what a job. Non stop play ▶play its crazy. He's 5 but he wants to play. Sam has saved my life but, I'm scared he's gonna hurt someone. Can you help me please. It's so scary to take him out and he doesn't even know his name when I'm trying to stop him. What can i do to stop this ? He's strong and my back can testify to that. Please share your thoughts if you would please and thank you for your time. I'm looking v forward to hearing back from you. Sincerely, Terri and Sam
I got 3.8mm for my SPOO (Standard Poodle) Is it too big? I took a few links off it but it keeps sliding down. I was recommended to you by the Standard Poodles Face book page
JodyM2 oh dang! 3.8 is pretty big- the 3.0mm is going to be the go to, for most large breeds, even a standard poodle(depending on weight)the only time I will ever go up in size to the 3.2mm is if I’m working with a baby rhino, like a 200lb rottie, or corso... one of the big thick necked dogs
JodyM2 thank you for the support! I was going thru comments yesterday and didn’t see the few that you had left previously- I’m so happy you are persistent!!!🙌🏼
How do you begin training a dog that is aggressive towards you? Since my dog attacked me a few weeks ago, he lunges to bite me whenever he sees me. I want to try to teach place and the structured walk but I'm worried if I get close to him he'll attack again.
Did u have him since a puppy? To me that attitude sounds like he’s free to do whatever he wants. You have to let him know you’re the boss and be strict. How are things now?
Hi. I have the 3mm collar for my recently rescued Boxer-mix. I've removed a few links to fit the collar, but it still slides down his neck as we walk & I have to constantly readjust it (exactly as you've described it in your video). If I remove an additional link, however, the collar becomes obviously too tight. It's like his neck is "between sizes". Do you have any suggestions for this situation? Thanks!
Ken Winston I hate that in between spot! The better you get at handling the leash and giving feedback, the better your dog will get at the structured walk, and the prong will eventually be a back up. You won’t have to fuss with it so much... In the meantime, I would suggest 2.5mm, the smaller gauges can fit better for some bigger dogs with that little needle hair, coat.
I have no problems getting it on and off the way you have shown, but I took it off between a link and the plate that says sprenger and now for the life of me can’t figure it out 😭

I can’t pinch I have arthritis. Can you show quick release ?
I feel stupid and bad I tried to slide this over my dogs head. Thanks for your informative video. It may seem simple but it helps a lot
I got a 2 month old Retriever from the Humane Society today. And the dog is so scared of people the leash and jumps around on the leash. Grant he has a e- collar on because they neuter him today. But he wet and poos when you pick him up. And his heart is racing. What can I do? And the pong collar does it cut the dog?
DO NOT use a prong collar on this dog at this point. Get a slip lead, sign up for my LeashFoundation.com course($20)
Start there, message me inside the course, there is a private group where you can ask questions and share progress with myself and everyone else.
You saved my life lol thank you
This was excellent. Ty! I received the collar in the mail for my adopted 21 mo old 88 lb untrained pup, & for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how the heck to open it😄. Great demonstration!!
Thank you! Very helpful...
OMGGGOODNESS LIFE SAVER❤️❤️❤️ literally needed to use Pilars😂 but I got it my whole body is sweating I was literally over heating in stressssss😭😭
Thank you so much ❤❤❤ God bless ❤❤❤
Thank you so so much for slow, easy visual to follow. At last, I have learned how to put the prong collar on my crazy Malinoise dog.
Great demo...thank you!
Madonna Goniea no, you’re good! 2.25 will work great! I use the 2.25 on bigger dogs often, depending on body structure and behavior
@@RescueDogTraining I was about to ask this question too! Just saved me some money because I was about to order the 3. Thanks!
My dog yelps when I try to even put it on. He’s so sensitive. How do I make him more comfortable with the collar itself?
maybe try a martingale collar, same idea but it doesn't have the prongs
What about with a black steel one? The prongs do not bend!
I definitely need help with my 10minth old pit! I'm desperate and struggling@
saved me many thanks. 🙈
Very helpful thank you
This is easy for clients without arthritis. I worked in the dog daycare indusrty for a while and im fed up with prongs.
Any suggestions?
jprtecos watch the video, “my dog won’t let me touch his paws” on this channel
Counter conditioning, do the same thing with the collar
Your collar should be a Herm Sprenger. You can get it on amazon or chewy- If you got something from a pet store, I highly suggest taking it back or tossing it in the trash.
Koco Garcia I made sure to get a herm sprenger - thank you I’ll take another look at the video and work on counter condition with him.
Can these be worn 24/7 ?
No.
@@RescueDogTraining ok
My prong collar popped off while picking my child up from school and my dog got loose.. it popped from a prong attachment, do you know why this happened or how to make sure it doesn’t happen?!
The prongs are too loose. You have to squeeze them together to fit them thru the slot, and sometimes the entire link gets squeezed into a smaller shape. Find the link that slides in and out the easiest, and pull the prongs away from eachother to make it tighter when you squeeze it to fit it into the slot.
Can I use this on my six month old Yorkiepoo? He's 10 pounds. Constantly pulls on the collar when we go for walks
Please don't. Just try other ways. There are multiple other options you have to train your dog. If it pulls nothing moves. If no pulling is happening you praise.
BUT MY PRONGS ARE SO THICK HELP MEEEEE!!!!!!
Herm Sprenger 3.0mm
We just bought a prong collar today. I almost had a melt down in petsmart because I decide to take my dog with me. 🤦🏽♀️ could barely get her still long enough for me to get the correct size. When we got home I decided to walk around the block with her with it one ... completely different dog. Not perfect but a big difference!!
Karen Veracruz heyy! That’s awesome!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼If you end up having any kind of issues with the prong collar you got- move to a Herm Sprenger brand, it’s the only brand of prong I’ll use👍🏼
Congrats on the progress, that’s so great!!!
Haha my girls name is Rosie too! Thank you for the video
So helpful, thank you so much. 💜
what part of arizona are u in
THANK YOU!!!!! Feeling like an idiot over here unable to remove a link!
Super helpful video! Thank you so much!!!
Very helpful. Many thanks.
Bless you, Human!!! 😂 🙏 I didn’t think I had Tourette’s syndrome, but I might.
Sincerely,
Terri and Sam
I bought one and my dog pulled and it undid itself idk what is wrong with it !?
I got 3.8mm for my SPOO (Standard Poodle) Is it too big? I took a few links off it but it keeps sliding down. I was recommended to you by the Standard Poodles Face book page
JodyM2 oh dang! 3.8 is pretty big- the 3.0mm is going to be the go to, for most large breeds, even a standard poodle(depending on weight)the only time I will ever go up in size to the 3.2mm is if I’m working with a baby rhino, like a 200lb rottie, or corso... one of the big thick necked dogs
@@RescueDogTraining Thanks I'll get a 3 so nice to get a response I posted your Video in my Standard Poodles of AZ F.B.Page
Thank you for explaining the size of collar vs. size of dog. I bought the wrong one 🤦🏻♀️
Oh my god thank you I'm like why mine are loose that my dog got away (I got her back immediately)
Thanks. I bought one last night.
Thankyou ❤
Super helpful!!! 😃
I have no problems getting it on and off the way you have shown, but I took it off between a link and the plate that says sprenger and now for the life of me can’t figure it out 😭
Flip the link. The one attached to the plate, flip it and let it slide down- it got flipped backwards
