    The best part is that season 1 is basically just the prologue.
    As for the relationship between Thorfinn and Askeladd its less a mentor/student and more of a monster telling a young man to make sure he doesn't become like him.
    Askeladd sacrificed so much of his humanity , that by the end he died with nothing and noone.
    Meanwhile Thorfinn still has time to make something of himself instead of chasing conflict which leada to nothing
    THAT'S what he was trying to tell him

    • @SeaTactics
      @SeaTactics  4 года назад +90

      Damn, that's something that went right over my head, good pointing that out. I also don't think it's a coincidence that all the series I like have these super long introduction seasons rather than introduction arcs or episodes. Berserk, ReZero and now Vinland Saga are these shows that tell these insanely long and detailed stories and they always start out with these amazing 20+ episode long set up seasons.

      @@chopi1358 Here's a funny thing you should know; Thorfinn's a real person. There was indeed a man named Thorfinn Karlsefni, and while the prologue of Vinland Saga is fictional, we know that he was one of those explorers who reached Nova Scotia and did their damnedest to make a life there. He has a lot to do.

    Askeladd slicing off King Swen's was the biggest OMG heard all around because it had so much impact. It was only until we realized what he was actually doing. His plans always succeed, even to the point of death. His last words to Thorfin hit alot of us. Askeladd will be remembered as the best antagonist of 2019 overall. This series was great from start to finish, and hope a season 2 does come around. 10/10 it is, and MAL can shove it's score down the drain.

    • @grog3514
      @grog3514 3 года назад +8

      He doesn't push it away. He doesn't have that kind of growth yet. He is watching his life's purpose slip from him. The knife symbolises his hatred. Its showing us that his fear of losing his purpose/(farther figure) is actually more important to him than his anger. Its not so much that he lets go of the dagger, but that he tries to reach for askalaad while being dragged away from him. The rage is still there, but now we see a stronger, different emotion coming from thorfinn.

    I struggle with the idea of anyone crying for Askeladd. The guy directed his men to slaughter innocent women and children to save himself. I watched this video to try and find out who the characters were that were shown at the very end of the episode...

    Vinland Saga's Ep 24 ate Game of Thrones Season 8
    Surely its a cliffhanger, a good one!
    Askeladd's arc ended and Thorfinn's arc will resume. Im still rooting for their duel and see Askeladd die on the hands of Thorfinn but oh well. Still a 10/10 *Anime*

      He's had this one and only goal of killing Askeladd in a duel to avenge his father. He came all the way for a decade just for this particular objective. Why would he not fulfill his goal? Even Askeladd said you don't have any other plan what are you gonna do after my death.

    This is the type of anime where one episode you love the bad guy, and the next one you hate him. And the other way around. I don't know if I should hate Akseladd or not.

    If they ever make a second season, I think it could be something to do with floki, because if you give back in the earlier episodes you realize that floki planned the hit and hired askeladd to it, so if thorfinn ever finds out that can be hes new target. It's just a theory

    Idk what to think about it, the character development either doesn't happen or happens too hard in one blink and the poor translations to English are also so annoying, is season 2 worth watching?
    Edit: also the dumb quotes they make all the time, I can't tell who's dumber, the middle ages or the producers of this show
    Edit2: OK maybe we should bring slavery back

    I just finished vinland saga and I loved it i give it a 9/10 and it would be a 10 if they gave me something to get excited about for season 2 like maybe thorfinn finding out floki ordered payed askeladd to kill Thor’s but I do hope in the end he settles down and does what a true warrior does!

    I honestly just wanted Thorfinn to kill Askeladd’s smug ass. I’m not a fan of befriending your fathers murderer. Askeladd barely had a stake in even following through with killing Thors. He knew something was up and only ended up doing Floki a favor who is then set up as an enemy to him. Can’t help but feel extremely unsatisfied with the ending. Granted I literally just finished the last episode.
